It's that time again. Saying goodbye is never fun or easy, But fortunately there are still 4 options on the Wheel for people to come back into the game. So "goodbye" might not be what it usually is!

So maybe it's a "so long and hope to see you soon!"  If nothing else, I hope you will be Home Gaming to

[personal profile] marjorica

and legal... wait, what's this

[personal profile] legalpad819 pulls out a medallion from her pocket.  "I'd like to play this!"

*takes it and examines it*  I can confirm this IS an immunity idol!  She is safe from elimination!  Unlike most immunity idols though, no one else will be taking her place.

Technically speaking, since I said  whoever receives the "
FEWEST number of votes, without being eliminated will receive the right to pick something out of Pandora's box!!! "

That means legalpad819 will get to pick something from Pandora's box! I
will let you know what has been chosen.

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
It came down to 1 vote.

Which was shocking, because there was one person at the top of the majority of time, and then another name joined her... and the two of them had a sizable lead until earlier today, when a third person showed up and started gaining...

then it became a "what is going to happen"... with one person gaining a vote here, and the other gaining another... and then it sat as a tie. For awhile. Until one vote came in.... and did not vote for either of them!  :D

Two minutes after that though... a miracle happened... and the tie was finally broken and there was much rejoicing...

So, congratulations to  [personal profile] inkstainedfingertips !

This immunity can be used to save yourself, or someone else, between now and the Top 10.  (you just need to email me and let me know you will be using it BEFORE the poll closes.

Don't forget that you also have an entry to write - https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1086445.html

But now that everyone has turned in their answers, there are two more very important parts to this task.

You will now answer those same questions -  But you will guess WHAT THE REST OF THE TRIBE, AS A WHOLE, thinks.  So YOU might think that Contestant A is the most trustworthy, but maybe you think that the tribe thinks Contestant B is.... so you would answer "contestant B."

Note: Your individual answers will not be announced BUT the correct answer will be revealed, and everyone who got it right.

Here are the questions again:

Who would you trust with your life?

Who would never survive on their own on an island?

Who would you most like to hang out with in person once this game, and pandemic, is over?

Who mistakenly thinks they are running this game?

Who is the best writer?

Who does the most for the tribe?

Who is the most honest, in the context of this game?

Who is the most likely to stab you in the back in this game?

Who is playing the most like this was “LJ Idol”?

Who is playing the most like this was “Survivor”?

***
Normally, if we were all on an island, playing in real time, this part would happen in front of everyone. But since we're not, and no one wants to wait around for you to respond to your email, I'm going to set this part up in advance. It also introduces an interesting wrinkle to the proceedings. :)

When you get an answer right, you will get to chop someone else's rope. 3 chops will take them out of the running for immunity.

When you send me your answers - also send me a "chop list", 1-9 from "most want to chop their rope" to "only because I am being forced to do this" Note - You can not chop your own rope. Your chops in the game will be determined by this list. (If your #1 is still on the board, you will keep chopping them until they are out. Then move to #2... Once you are out, your answers will not be counted, and you will not be able to chop anyone)

The deadline to send both of these to me, at clauderainsrm@gmail.com, is
Monday, Jan 18th at 5pm ET.

In true Idol fashion, it came down to 1 vote in both the Friends *and* the Rivals categories.

But there was a winner for each - so I will be giving out an immunity for both of you that can be used to save yourself from elimination one time between now and Top 30!

Congratulations to

Only 5 of the remaining 10 contestants submitted for the Quick Fire this week.

I'm hoping that everyone else was just saving themselves up for the main event!

Putting something out in 24-hours isn't always easy, so those who were able to do it - definitely thumbs up to you.

The Judging this week wasn't easy. People did have strong opinions on the pieces - but looking at the ballots, there were a couple folks at or near the top of one who were at the bottom of another! Which again, to me means I picked the right group of people to be Judges!

This week is certainly a fun group.

They were:

Dominica Malcolm is a writer/editor at Solarwyrm Press, co-founded by Jax Goss, whom she met through LJ Idol. At Solarwyrm, she has published a speculative fiction novel, Adrift Press, which had it's beginnings in LJ Idol, and Amok: An Anthology of Asia-Pacific Speculative Fiction. She will soon be publishing a second anthology, Marked by Scorn: An Anthology Featuring Non-Traditional Relationships (which is still open for submissions until Feb 15th, if anyone has something to submit - visit http://solarwyrm.com/2014/07/10/call-for-submissions-marked-by-scorn/ for details), and will also soon be published in an anthology about polyamorous families.

When she's not writing or publishing, she can usually be found in the San Francisco Bay Area, frequently watching stand-up comedy, or watching, performing, or developing her skills in improv. For more information, check out her website/blog at http://dominica.malcolm.id.au "

[livejournal.com profile] rejeneration - If you track the history of the success of fiction through LJ Idol history, you are going to come across a few names. Before you will hit a dead stop. There will be others that have done it, but only a few that did it well enough to literally change the dynamic of the conversation about the role of fiction in Idol.

This is one of those names. An argument could be made that it's *the* name that changed things and set up the "next stage" of development that came during Season 5.

We've never met face to face, but she is definitely someone that I consider a friend and a major supporter of Idol over the years. You (briefly) got to meet her this season when she attempted to use Facebook to play. Why? Because she wanted to test the limits and break new ground. Because that is who she is and what she does.

Another person that I am proud to call my friend is Kerry Hiatt She didn't give me much of a bio though, so I stole it from LinkedIn. :)

"I’m a freelance journalist, author, copywriter and editor based in London who occasionally dabbles in writing for TV and radio. Magazines and newspapers I’ve written for include The Guardian, The Daily Mail, The Daily Express, The Independent, Psychologies and Time Out. I was a staff writer for a leading travel trade publication for two years and now specialise in travel; however, write extensively on dating lifestyle, relationships, food and careers.

I also work for publishing companies and independent authors on a freelance basis providing editing and book publicity services."

(She's no longer based in London. But the rest of it is still accurate. In addition: she currently works as a reader for a London-based literary agent. The *day I asked her to be a Judge* she had just finished running "a live critique event with a literary agent to offer advice on how to how to improve query letters". AKA I caught her at the right time - and she's definitely someone you want reading your stuff! :D)

The final Judge is *also* someone that you want reading your stuff. If you are on Livejournal, he's pretty much everywhere. How big of a deal is he? He's one of *the* central figures of the ONTD empire and his user name is his actual first name: [livejournal.com profile] brenden! (not to mention the fancy livejournalinc.com email address! :D)

He is literally one of the people who keeps this site we love going.

Seriously, I'm extremely flattered that he agreed to be a Judge this round.

Actually, I'm flattered to have gotten all of them!

Now I've introduced them, it's time to announce their decision. It was another close one. But I've checked it several different ways, and it's still the same winner, regardless of what method I was going to use. So I guess that means it's the right answer. ;)

The Winner of this week's Quick Fire - and immunity for Week 37 is [livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim! Congratulations!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Saying "I'm shocked" by the results today is one of those double-edged thing. After all - if you say "I wasn't expecting so-and-so to go" means you were expecting someone else!

I think we've covered that pretty well in the past.

But hopefully you will bear with me, and not think that I'm saying anything about anyone else, when I say that I was shocked when I hit "close poll", because I had no idea where things were going to land with that final refresh!

There was a point when it could have been just about any combination of names that I announced were going home tonight, and I think that says a lot about the people left in this competition.

We have two immunities that had a huge impact on this week. The first was from the Quick Fire, which went to [livejournal.com profile] kickthehobbit. But everyone knew she was safe. So the vote totals reflected that.

The other - well, we'll get to that in a bit.

Leaving us from the Redemption Tribe is the Co-Winner of Exhibit B (and quite frankly the person I thought was going to be a strong contender to win Spirit of LJ Idol for Season 9) [livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim

From the main tribe, we have another person who had their name bandied about not long ago for "one of the best shots to win" [livejournal.com profile] yachiru

Two completely amazing writers, who will definitely be missed - and who I hope will continue on with the Home Game and serving on the Jury that will decide immunity in these crucial final few weeks!

Speaking of the Jury vote - I mentioned that things were tight. What I *didn't* say is that at one point it was a 4-way tie for immunity.

When those final votes of the night came in - it was a 3-way tie.

Being a tie, my first instinct was "OK - do any of them *actually need it*?"

The answer was YES.

[livejournal.com profile] talonkarrde88 was vulnerable and thus receives immunity.

So the *next* person would be eliminated... except that [livejournal.com profile] fodschwazzle was ALSO in that 3-way tie - and I'm not going to give one person, who was tied, immunity, and put one of the others on the chopping block. So he ALSO receives immunity!

Nor will I eliminate anyone else for what the Jury clearly had a difficult time deciding on. (and even if I did, the next level up is also a tie!)

We have a Top 11.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
In true Season 9 fashion, it came down to *a single vote*.

There were 10 entries and 5 of them came within a single vote of either winning or forcing a major tie-breaker of some sort! (and every single writer who submitted something received a vote!) If that doesn't tell you just how good the quality of the writers are this season nothing will.

Well, except a note from one of the Judges saying that they are really impressed with your work!

When I invite people to come in as Judges, they are definitely doing me a favor, and I always worry "I hope I'm not wasting their time with this". Thank you, for once again, not wasting their time! :)

Before I get to the result, I'd like to thank the Judges for taking the time and effort to come to this conclusion.

Your Quick Fire Judges this week were:

You know her. You love her. You covet her icon collection. She's [livejournal.com profile] roina_arwen I know she's wanted to do this sort of thing for a *long* time (and considering that, unless my mental math is faulty, she's the longest-constantly tenured member of Idol, that's quite bit of time!) so I'm glad that I was finally able to cross that off her bucket list. :)

Next up is someone else that you should know. Granted, you may only know him from his stint as a Gatekeeper. But people who know [livejournal.com profile] joeymichaels know him as something of a legendary figure in these halls. I'm really glad that I could coax him back one more time to help out!

I was also fortunate enough to ask an old friend of mine, from back in my fanfic days, to show up and help out. Brent Lambert is a talented writer and an all-around good guy. He's someone that I've always enjoyed knowing and watching grow over the years - but lately he's really stepped up and done something that makes me go "Damn, I KNOW THAT GUY!"

He is in the process of starting R.R.A.P. (Race Relations in the Arts and Politics) which will be officially launching on Feb 1st. I'll definitely be pointing you in his direction when that happens.

One of the people who really excited and impressed me this season, with dedication to LJ Idol and just that general "This is what is about!" spirit was [livejournal.com profile] eternal_ot, combining both compelling writing with an incredible attitude toward life. (Note: One of the things on her "list of accomplishments" is that she is GETTING ENGAGED THIS WEEKEND!)

Last, but certainly not least, is something who spends her time entertaining the world in her travels as well as doing some freelance editing over at Unkind Editor
Most times you would say "When she's not doing that..." but this is [livejournal.com profile] whipchick, so she is ALSO writing her fingers to the bone and doing things being the winner of LJ Idol Season 8!

Thank you to all of you for helping out this week! I know it wasn't an easy decision, but I hope you had fun reading the entries!

***

Now that's out of the way - we have our Results.

One contestant, who participated in this Quick Fire, now has IMMUNITY for Week 34, and a guaranteed spot one step closer to a chance to get into the finale!

Who is that?

[livejournal.com profile] jexia!

Congratulations!

Are you interested in reading the entries yourself, but haven't had the chance to do so? Then go check them out: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/826465.html
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Before I get to the "who won immunity?" I'd like to take a moment to thank the Judges for coming in for this task.

This is the very first Quick Fire in the history of Idol, so I wanted to "do it right". I think the people who were able to step up and help make this decision more than reflect that.

If people want to go back and read those entries for themselves, you can at http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/823503.html

I asked them to send me what they wanted people to know about them, so I'll include some of that when I introduce them. :)

Your Quick Fire Judges for this week were:

[livejournal.com profile] oneonthefence - If you've been around Idol for any length of time you know her and her work. You also know that she's been in and out of the hospital for the last few years and has pretty much had to put herself on the writing competition bench because of it. For those who *don't* know her from her time in Idol: "I am a former opera singer, music journalist, and grant writer; I've been published before in anthologies, newspapers, and magazines; I currently write and edit articles and press releases for a random buck or two here and there; and my first novel, Vivisection, is facing its own fate by resting in the hands of an agent." She told me to cut and paste things from her bio, so I'll also include this bit: " also raise the coolest three-year-old on the planet. :)"

You know him. You love him. So I really don't have to give his bio information, you already know he's awesome - former contestant from this season and CO-WINNER of Exhibit B: [livejournal.com profile] the_lettersea

Someone else that long-time Idol supporters will know - although he too has been absent for the last couple of seasons, out there being successful. :) You can follow Kevin Saito on twitter at @kevin_saito or check out his current sports writing gig at goldengatesports.com

His second book hasn't been released yet, but when it is, I will be sure to share a link. In the meantime, you can purchase his first via the Idol store: http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20/detail/1908599030

The Fourth and Final member of the panel is someone who has been a friend-of-a-friend of Idol for quite some time. Which means I've been hearing the name long enough that I wasn't surprised when I started seeing it in print.

"Anne Thériault is a Toronto-based writer, activist and social agitator. Her work has appeared in such varied publications as The Washington Post, Vice, Jezebel, The Toast and others. She thinks your dad is pretty good-looking."

You can find her online at twitter.com/anne_theriault or bellejar.ca or, let's be honest, anywhere a there's a good debate happening. :)

Thank you so much to all of you. I truly appreciate it.

I know it was a difficult decision. Not only because I have faith in the writers here. But because I know that didn't come down to a "single vote", it came down to a single "percentage" of where someone ranked them within the votes.

We came *very* close to having a four way tie, but one person eeked it out in the end, and earned IMMUNITY for Week 33. (They still need to turn something in, but they will not be eliminated this week)

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] yachiru
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
There was another big decision today, finalized an hour before the poll.

As advertised, the Jury was charged to make the biggest decision ever handed to an Idol Jury. It is the most influence ever handed to that body to impact the Finale, and true to form, it came down to one vote, one ranking to be precise.

Before we get to that decision, I want to thank them. There are so many people who are eliminated, and we never hear from them again until it is time for them to step back into the spotlight for a new season. By serving on the Jury, and by casting your votes every week, you continue to help and support Idol, and your fellow writers. It is an act that comes from wanting the best possible results, and genuine caring about the outcome. Which I very much appreciate, and I know the community does as well.

Thank you for your service, and I officially disband you for Season 7. :)

I hope you will continue to stick around and see how this plays out.

What was the decision though? What did it come down to a single ranking of the Top 6?

I asked the Jury to rank their favorite set of entries, and whoever had the lowest point total - who was left in the competition after this vote would be walking away with a huge prize. A crucial prize.

As I said, it came down to one vote. But 5 of the 6 were within four points. (and the 6th wasn't very far off either) In other words, a single ballot ranking could have produced completely different results. I think that speaks volume to the diversity, and talent of this group.

What is this amazing power? It's the Final immunity. To be kept for themselves, or given out (before the voting starts next round) to someone else.

The person awarded this by the Jury has been given the power to determine one member of the Final 3.

By "Final 3", I mean just that - the Finals, the Finale, the Last Gasp of Season 7, Why We Are Here.

We have 4 contestants remaining, and one of them has a guaranteed spot, thanks to the Jury of their peers, to keep, or give away.

Who is that contestant? Oddly enough, it's the same person who came within one vote of leaving us this week! Apparently, he just likes living on the edge!

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] nishi_kaze!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I would say that it was another "down to the last possible moment" votes that have become a Season 7 staple - but I would be lying. Technically speaking, it was an after the last minute decision, because the Jury still had to have their say on who was to receive immunity.

It another very tight, down to a single vote, selection process, but the contestant that they decided to spare this week actually needed it. Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] nishi_kaze, you have been given immunity and are safe from elimination this week.

You can breathe now.

That does mean though that the person with the next lowest amount of votes will be going instead.

Thank you so much to all the people who came out to support your favorites. I hope that you will stick around to see this thing to it's conclusion, and that you will continue to check out some of the other outstanding writers who are currently competing!!

Unfortunately, this week, we are saying goodbye to 3 of them, and are, in turn, finding out Top 11.

We've been together for a really long time in this Season and I've really enjoyed all three of them. It's very difficult to say goodbye, but fortunately, they will be crossing over to the Jury, to help make future Immunity picks and helping to craft the rest of this season.

I really hope we will be seeing them in the Home Game as well. I'll miss their entries. . . I really need to just go ahead and say it instead of dragging my feet. . .

Leaving us today are three veteran fan favorites and all around nice folks to have around:

[livejournal.com profile] applespicy
[livejournal.com profile] comedychick
[livejournal.com profile] lawchicky
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Before we get to the results - there is a matter of the Jury. They have been charged to, collectively, make the decision who will receive immunity each week. The only catch being, no one can receive it more than once. With so many quality entries this week, and the unpredictability of polls, it's always a challenge to reach a collective decision. How much of a challenge?

This week the contestant who won did so by 1 vote. There were 7 other contestants one vote down from winning!!!

In the end though, the first person to be granted immunity by our Jury was [livejournal.com profile] applespicy! Congratulations!!

That was the good news. Unfortunately, we also have the bad news to deliver. Granted, getting to this point in the competition has got to be "good news" as well. But I know that doesn't stop leaving from sucking.
I know this week is going to upset a lot of people's predictions for the season. On the other hand, the curse of being labeled the "front runner" is pretty much intact.
Today we are saying goodbye to

[livejournal.com profile] beeker121
[livejournal.com profile] joyfulfeather
[livejournal.com profile] tamaraland
and
[livejournal.com profile] team_jessie

Thank you to all of you. I know that we will not be seeing the last of you, because you are now joining the Jury, to help determine how the rest of this season is going to play out!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I wasn't planning it on it being a long night. But that last two hours produced quite a few votes! Were you among them?

If so. . . *mutters under breath* I mean, thank you for coming out and making a really difficult decision.

I joke about "Gary Only Voting", and how it's coming one day - but this is one week where I'm really glad that it won't be actually happening!

I'm not entirely certain who I would be sending to the Home Game this week, because any way you look at it there are no easy choices to make with this group.

I expected that it would be close. I wasn't expecting *how* close it was going to be. I knew you were a diverse and opinionated group when it came to "What you like" - but I judging by the span on the votes, it's pretty clear to me that the group has some massively differing opinions - which is awesome. It makes for a great "coming together" over the rest of the season.

I knew coming in that people from Second Chance were going to have a rough go of it - and some of them definitely did. Some of them quite frankly did quite well for themselves. That was the surprise.

I knew there were going to be a few names that I personally would be shocked to see on the list. You folks certainly didn't disappoint in that department.

In full disclosure, I did have it down to 6 people leaving this week. However, then [livejournal.com profile] maizing_grace contacted me about using her token to grant immunity to one person. I'm supposed to say that it's in celebration of getting control of her LJ again. Anyone reading the ongoing saga will understand that.

She gave me a list of the order of "who to save".

The person on the list, who was set to go out this week - but has been saved by the Immunity token is [livejournal.com profile] supremegoddess1!

That move meant that the next contestant with the lowest vote was going. . . which meant the next "block of votes" was in danger, and which shifted the number of people leaving this week to 8.

Definitely some surprises (for me at least) in the goodbyes this time around.

Today we are saying goodbye to

[livejournal.com profile] amazingwriter23

[livejournal.com profile] kate_spencer
[livejournal.com profile] lordrexfear
[livejournal.com profile] oldscratchx
[livejournal.com profile] sdaisyk
[livejournal.com profile] the_o_writes

Thank you to all of you for an amazing season. I hope that we will continue to see you all in the Home Game, and around these parts.

Thank you also to everyone who took the time to read, vote and comment on the entries this week. Hopefully you found some new favorites in the mix.

I'm going to fall down now. . .
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
This was the final week of the Jury, their last chance as a body, to cast a vote to help influence how the rest of the season was going to play out.

Thank you once again for everything.

This week, as it has been, the Jury was divided and opinionated on the subject of who should received the coveted immunity for the week, making them safe in both polls.

In the end though, it came down to the final vote cast (just like in the polls themselves) and the two selected were

[livejournal.com profile] notbatman
and
[livejournal.com profile] theafaye

Congratulations to both of you. Not only for being selected for immunity, but also for making it into our Top 9.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Another week with a difficult decision facing the jury. This time there were two separate polls and with each it came down to a tie. The usual 'ranking' tie-breaker resulted in there still being a tie in each group.

Clearly people, collectively, couldn't make up their minds.

So I ended up going with "overall" scores as the third and (fortunately) final level of tie-breaker.

After all, Immunity for the week is at stake! Being safe from elimination, from both polls, is huge right now. Given it to two people - that could shift the entire dynamic, especially with how close the voting tends to be.

In the end, the Jury ended up awarding Immunity for this week to

[livejournal.com profile] fourzoas
and
[livejournal.com profile] rattsu

Congratulations to you both.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Every week it's a little bit more difficult to pick who will be given immunity, and the jury is charged with picking from this really tough field one contestant to make safe from the vote.

In practical terms, it means that they don't have to worry about being eliminated this week. In bigger terms though it's a "we liked what you did"/"kudos" from your former competitors, and it's hard to beat something like that.

Thus far it's been tight every single week, and this time was no exception.

In the end though, they selected [livejournal.com profile] beautyofgrey!

Congratulations on your immunity and your guaranteed spot in the Top 13 of Season 6!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Every week the going in the polls becomes just a little bit more dangerous, as the field continues to shrink and the talent keeps rising to the challenge.

This week is no exception. Which is where the Jury comes in with their ability to grant immunity. It's part kudos from your peers and part life line.

The kicker of course being that you can only receive it once! So it's both a blessing and a curse. But for one week though, it certainly is the best kind of blessing that you can receive!

This week was another tight selection process, coming down to a single vote!!! (Which is looking more and more like the polls themselves!)

One name did edge out and into the winner's circle though.

That name, that contestant, that person who is immune from the vote this week and thus has a guaranteed spot in the Top 15 - is [livejournal.com profile] mstrobel!

Congratulations.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Once again, the jury has cast their votes and a decision has been reached.

The contestant receiving immunity this week, and thus safe from elimination, is [livejournal.com profile] java_fiend.

Congratulations!!

Be sure to read his entry - and all of the others - at http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/348239.html
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
People have asked "who won immunity this week?"

Glad you asked!

Once again, it was pretty darn close among a field of worth competitors.

This week the jury deliberated and the immunity was given to [livejournal.com profile] talonkarrde88!

Congratulations!
