The results were set. Until they weren't. The person who was behind caught up in the last hour, and then went ahead by one vote with about a minute left. Shocking ending!!!

By the time I hit "close poll", one more vote had appeared, to tie it back up again.

Which just goes to show, our audience loves the drama. :D

Or likes torturing you (maybe me too) and wants you to write more!

Because for two of you, that is what is about to happen!

We have another Open Topic for the Sudden Death Write Off, this time between

[personal profile] flipflop_diva
and
[personal profile] littlebitofearth

You have until Thursday, December 12th at 9pm ET to link your entries back to this thread. (in the indicated space below)

Have fun!!

It came down to a single vote.  Maybe it was yours. Maybe yours was the vote that could have changed the outcome.

There were 2 votes away from turning it into a 3-way tie.  I have to wonder if that is a sign of what this mini season is going to be like... I suspect it is.

He signed up "to be canon fodder" so that other writers didn't have to be voted out first - and sure enough, that's what happened. But there is certainly nothing wrong with what he submitted over the last couple of weeks!

Today is goodbye to [personal profile] vik_thor

Hopefully you will continue to home game. It's always great to see you, and thank you for your continued love for this community!

I caused this result. It was a comedy of errors that all ended with us in this situation.

[personal profile] vik_thor  submitted his entry after the poll went up. He was charged with a bye because it wasn't there when I hit "post"... within a minute of me doing that though I got the notification that his entry was up.

So I went to add it at the bottom of the post. He still had a bye, because it wasn't in before I posted the poll.  But I wanted people to have the chance to read it. The problem came because I accidentally overwrote the rest of the poll when I posted that link and didn't notice until people started pointing it out.

At that point, I assembled the NEW poll, and since he was in time for that, I added his entry.

And he ended up with the lowest amount of votes. Did people not vote for him because he was late? I know there are people who do that. Were there other factors? I honestly don't know.

What I DO know is that if that original poll had stayed up, without me trying to do something nice, he wouldn't be going home...

So he isn't going to be going home and will be charged with a bye instead. (as the original poll stated)

I don't want someone to be eliminated for me causing a technical difficulty.  Nor would it be fair to skip over him (like he was a bye) and eliminate the next person. No one is going home this week. Congratulations! You made it to Week 2.

There is an important lesson for me here - never try to be nice.  ;)

So here we are, at the end of the mini season that didn't seem all that mini. :)

We started on Livejournal - and ended up here at Dreamwidth. Which probably says a lot about just how wild this process getting here has been!

So let's cut to the chase and make this official:

In Third Place - [personal profile] banana_galaxy !

In Second Place -[personal profile] flipflop_diva !

and your 3 Strikes Champion - [personal profile] dadi

Which yes, does make her the first person to ever win a mini season AND a regular season!!! (halfshellvenus won a mini season and the special event, for those keeping score. *looks around at all the spreadsheets*)

I plan on coming back and actually saying more about each of you. But for now, just know that you should be really proud of making it this far and being such a great representation of this mini season.

Thank you to all 3 of you - and to everyone who came out and helped make this special, even if I couldn't do my part the way I would have liked.

The dust has cleared, and the bottom 2 with the fewest votes this week are actually 3.

There was a tie between
oxymoron67
[personal profile] quiltingdragon
and [personal profile] simplyn2deep

which means that they all have an extra strike against them.

Unfortunately, that means that oxymoron67 and [personal profile] simplyn2deep  have hit their 3rd strike and have been eliminated from the competition. :(

They will definitely be missed from the competition, but I hope, not from the community!

Thank you for coming out and sharing this experience. I hope we get to read more from you in the Home Game!

I really think that the voters just like to mess with me. Either that or they just don't want this mini season to end.

But, after a series of emails between the finalists, a decision was reached -

A Split Decision.

There was no knockout and they tied on points.

Which means we have two losers...

Oh wait, sorry, I meant to say two WINNERS!

Congratulations to both [personal profile] halfshellvenus  and[personal profile] sonreir !

I'm starting to think that you people just like clicking boxes!

Because when the dust settled on the 4-way Write Off, we ended up with another tie!

Yes. Another tie.

Which means we go back another round of the Write Off!

[personal profile] daisysparrow
vs
[personal profile] katespencer1

Two keyboard warriors. 1 venue. Only 1 of them will emerge.

I'll post a thread, below, for them to link their entries in.

It's another Open Topic.  Which means they can write on anything they want.

They have until tomorrow, Thursday Nov 15th at 9pm EST to link their entries back to the thread below.

Have fun!

who completed all 4 topic entries!

What is their reward?

A BYE, usable between now and the Top 30. (Note; the regular byes expire at the Top 50) You can keep these byes, or give them to someone else.

It may not seem like a lot right now, but having a bye that no one else does after the Top 50 - that could end up making a huge difference.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Sometimes a contestant only vote is a blow out, and sometimes it's one of those exciting horseraces where someone pulls ahead by a nose coming around that last bend. Which makes it exciting for me, but it does mean that I have to get out the camera and capture that photo finish!

This was more of the latter. There were a few people who I thought would end up taking it, but in the end, the Veterans ended up with exactly the same as the Newbies, in a TIE!

Which means that there will be two Veterans getting the advantage as well. Which should really shake up the game from the onset, having four of something where I originally thought there would only be two!

The two contestants with the most votes from the Veterans are:

[livejournal.com profile] lilmissmagic71 and [livejournal.com profile] rayaso!

Congratulations!

I'm sure you are wondering what the two of you - as well as the two winners from the Newbies poll [livejournal.com profile] marlawentmad and [livejournal.com profile] my_name_is_jenn are receiving is AN IMMUNITY!

Any time you need it, between now and the Top 50, it can be played and it will save you from elimination. To make things more interesting, you can also play it on someone else, and it will save them. (You just have to let me know your intention and hour before the poll closes. "If so-and-so is going to be eliminated, I want to save them") (Note: This doesn't cancel an elimination, it just means someone else leaves)

I promised a huge advantage would be up for grabs, and I think this qualifies!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The newbies poll for Week 0 has ended. In a tie for the person with the most votes.

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] marlawentmad and [livejournal.com profile] my_name_is_jenn!

I considered doing a run-off, but have decided instead to simply award *two* advantages.

What are they?

I'll announce all the advantages after we finish with the Veterans!

You didn't think I was really going to forget about them did you?

Here, we're doing something a little different. Think of this Week 0 as a sampler platter of "ways Idol can work" during the season. It's a CONTESTANT ONLY VOTE!
What that means is that you have to be currently signed up to be a contestant for Season 10: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/945807.html and instead of a poll where everyone can click, you are going to be *emailing me* your choices.

In the case of something like this, I usually have a limit for the number of votes you can cast - and in this case that number is going to be 5. Yes, out of those entries, I need you to pick your TOP 5 (in alphabetical order please) and send them to clauderainsrm@gmail.com

So go over to http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/947738.html - Read, Comment and then send me your Votes! (Please make sure to identify yourself by user name)

The deadline to have your choices into me is Thursday Nov 17th at 7pm EST! Again, no elimination. The person with the entries that receives the most votes will receive an advantage in the game.

Good luck to everyone!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Wow!

That was a close race with some really talented people.

It seems to be the theme of this mini-season.

Three writers are moving forward and the rest will have one more shot to get back into the competition.

Those returning to the game for Week 11 are

[livejournal.com profile] barrelofrain
[livejournal.com profile] roina_arwen
[livejournal.com profile] tijuanagringo

Congratulations, and make sure to get in your entry for this week! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/902097.html
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The results are in, and while there were three amazing entries, only two of them can move forward this week.

This time around, those two are:

[livejournal.com profile] ellison and [livejournal.com profile] uselesstinrelic!

Congratulations.

Your entries for the main competition are due tomorrow, so I hope you are ready! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/898794.html

As for anyone else still wanting to get into the fray - there are two more chances, coming soon!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] mac_arthur_park who will be moving into this week's main competition poll! Better get your entry ready!

As for the rest of you - and by that I mean everyone who wants another shot to get into the fray, get ready for next week! (and tell your friends)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
In true Idol fashion, it came down to 1 vote in both the Friends *and* the Rivals categories.

But there was a winner for each - so I will be giving out an immunity for both of you that can be used to save yourself from elimination one time between now and Top 30!

Congratulations to

[livejournal.com profile] orockthro

and

[livejournal.com profile] rayaso!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Once again, it came down to a single vote and where people put contestant entries in their Top 3.

This was one of those times where I saw a middle section that was pretty much the same, with the top and the bottom switched from ballot to ballot. Which I like - because it tells me that I picked a group of Judges with truly diverse tastes.

It also tells me just how close this battle to the finish really is at this point. It'll be one thing if the polls were always close - then folks could say "Well, they just have similar amounts of followers", but coming down to a 3-person tie until the final vote came in - with another not far behind (and all of you receiving votes!) that tells me that this group is something special.

So thank you for week after week, proving just how awesome you are!

***

Now comes the point where I let you know who the Judges were this week.

Without them, Quick Fires wouldn't be possible - so please join me in a hearty round of applause for their efforts. I asked them to supply a blurb, but I may add something of my own as well. :)

After last week's disappearance - I made sure to stack the Judges Table to avoid that happening! I'm delighted to say that everyone who said they were showing up actually did! :)

The roster this week includes some old friends of Idol as well as a couple new faces (to you):

Most of you remember [livejournal.com profile] lawchicky. If you don't, you should! "I recently started a position writing Disney related blogs at The Magic for Less Blog, where I'm one of several bloggers. It's nice that I get to combine two things I love, writing and Disney. The bigger news though, is that another idol baby will be arriving in our house this July, making us a family of six! So I am hoping to get more writing done in the down time I will have at home with the new baby."

The same of "If you don't remember her, you should!" could be said of [livejournal.com profile] fourzoas. She's actually one of my personal favorite writers who have been involved with Idol over the years. Being the Director of Teaching and Writing and an Assistant Professor of English at a college probably doesn't hurt her credentials. :)
"In the last two years, I've published academic articles on race representation in pop culture and helping students become better readers of web texts. One of the pieces I wrote for Idol in the wake of the George Zimmerman trial was published by Gawker, giving me my 15 minutes of fame.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I've turned my attention to new projects. I'm currently working on a collaborative fiction project that's a cross between the Sookie Stackhouse books, the Game of Thrones series, and some Neal Stephenson nightmare all set on the Louisiana Gulf Coast."

Naomi Zener wasn't on my radar a couple weeks ago. But thanks to a few emails I sent out, quickly entered it. Darlena highly recommended her - and that's good enough for me!

So I checked out her stuff - and you should too! Naomi Elana Zener is the author of both Deathbed Dimes and satire fiction, which is posted on her blog Satirical Mama.
Her vociferous blogging has been read and appreciated by industry bigwigs such as Giller Prize winner Dr. Vincent Lam and New York Times best-selling author and journalist Paula Froelich. Naomi blogs for Huffington Post and her articles have been published by KvellerAbsrd Comedy, and Erica Ehm’s Yummy Mummy Club. She’s currently working on her sophomore novel. You can connect with her on her website or on Twitter @satiricalmama.

[livejournal.com profile] tigrkittn was foolish enough not to provide a bio of any sort, trusting me to say something about her. Fortunately, I'm going to tell you the truth and say that she's a talented writer who has been an outspoken supporter and member of Idol for quite some time. Some days a little more outspoken than others. :) She's one of those folks that I put in the "We may not always agree with each other, but I can always trust that she is going to give me her honest opinion." Which is perfect for something like this.

She may have also killed a man and buried him in the backyard. If I were law enforcement authorities, I would probably get to her house as soon as possible, before she can destroy the evidence.

Finally, we have another old friend of mine from my days of fanfic. Once again, it's someone who has "made good" on the promise he had "back in the day". (and he was extremely promising then, so the fact that he's gotten better is that much cooler!)

"Mark Bousquet is the author of multiple novels, including The Haunting of Kraken Moor, the Gunfighter Gothic, Dreamer's Syndrome, and twoseries of kids' books: Adventures of the Five and Stuffed Animals for Hire. His personal website is themarkbousquet.com, and his imprint, Space Buggy Press, is at the appropriately written spacebuggypress.com."

I was going to clicky link the books in bio, but instead I'll just add a link to his Amazon Author's page: http://www.amazon.com/Mark-Bousquet/e/B004WWUTNU/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_4 for the ones that he mentioned and a ton of neat stuff that he didn't.

***

Now that I've managed to type out all of that - and several "end of the night" getting everyone to bed distractions having been managed, it's time to actually get to why we are here - to find out who will have immunity for Week 36.

As I said, it was close.

But with 1 vote tipping the scales in her favor:

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] jexia!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It was another week where things literally came down to the votes of the final Judge to come through the door.

Before we get to the results - because, I'll be honest... I'm writing this before I even know them! (Just getting a little ahead by writing this out now, so that I can get you the results *as soon as they are delivered, piping hot!) I would like to take a moment to thank the Quick Fire Judges!

(Note: I wrote most of this on the first night! Back when I was emailed with a“Can you give me a couple more hours?” Honestly, I hope that Judge is OK, because I haven’t heard from them since then!)

As always, you did such a great job and I'm truly grateful for the time you took out of your schedules to show up and help us out!

Who were they? Glad you asked!

[livejournal.com profile] kittenboo isn't really someone who should need an introduction. But since I asked everyone for a blurb, she has one anyway: "For those who don't know me from Idol (I played a bunch of seasons, including this one) here are some basics... Wife to Scott Church. Mother to an 8 year old. Owner of 5 cats. I have been a children's counselor and a preschool teacher, but more recently an answerer of phones. Don't knock answering phones, I happen to enjoy it quite a bit."

She's a bit modest. She didn't "play a bunch of seasons", she's been a pretty major force in a few of them! I'm just glad that I was able to get her in to help be a force in the last part of this one as well!

I wasn’t going to identify the person who stepped up to the plate for us today - the one who broke the tie. But then it occurred to me, I didn’t want you to think that any of the other ones were the cause of the delay either! :) Which is why I can say that the person we were waiting for never showed - and I had to look around for someone to step in. I needed someone that I knew would be fair, and be able to get through everything quickly - someone who when put in a position to break the tie, the internet wouldn’t explode with “OMG - why her???” So I asked [livejournal.com profile] notodette.

You know her from Idol Season 8. Or as a Gatekeeper earlier this year. Or maybe you know her from other places Or her blog or maybe just as someone who is uniting America!
Seriously, just google her. She’s been up to a lot of stuff in the last year or so!

Over the years, Idol has been home to some of the most talented and quirky people on the internet. I'm proud to say that Reid Harris Cooper one of them!

From his bio: "Reid Harris Cooper is former child actor (now adult professional) and street art aficionado. He is also a photographer, visual artist, journalist, reviewer and promoter of all things culture and popculture (movies, books, comics, video games, art, food, television, and even wrestling). He runs a website at popculturespectrum.com. He also believes that Conjuction Junction needs to be retaught and struggles with this fact. Also, he's a sexy beast and a former LJ Idol contestant which through he previously has gained family, friends and even lovers. He is retired mostly from Livejournal, but he returns once in a blue moon yet finds Twitter and Facebook his main homes." Also of note, and I think this just goes to show where your writing can lead - "Recently I was chosen to be a reviewer for a Scholastic Arts & Writing Program for Grades 7-12. I reviewed dramatic scripts, poetry, and short fiction. In the past I was also an assistant poetry slam master alongside noted teacher/writer Taylor Mali."

Our final Judge is actually someone that I've been bugging since the Gatekeeper round. He was originally supposed to be there, but unfortunately he's a *really* busy guy. I didn't let go of the idea though, and I'm really glad that I finally was able to get him.

I celebrate his entire catalog

"Josh Wigler is a freelance entertainment writer and a host of several podcasts on Post Show Recaps. He's the co-author of The Evolution of Strategy, an audiobook series about the reality game show Survivor. He likes pizza more than people."

(Seriously, if you like Survivor - you should check out the Evolution of Strategy. It’s really good)

You should probably also know that he's close friends with Kermit http://www.mtv.com/news/1681145/hunger-games-twilight-muppets/ (it's a couple years old, and he's done so many cool things with his career, but that still impresses me!)

***

Given how close the last couple weeks have been, this time I took the precaution of having them rank all of the entries in order of their preference. (saving me from having to go back to them for tie-breakers. :D)

It ended up being close between 4 of them and *super-close* between two... and in the end, it was [livejournal.com profile] kickthehobbit that ended up winning immunity!

Congratulations!!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
In true Season 9 fashion, it came down to *a single vote*.

There were 10 entries and 5 of them came within a single vote of either winning or forcing a major tie-breaker of some sort! (and every single writer who submitted something received a vote!) If that doesn't tell you just how good the quality of the writers are this season nothing will.

Well, except a note from one of the Judges saying that they are really impressed with your work!

When I invite people to come in as Judges, they are definitely doing me a favor, and I always worry "I hope I'm not wasting their time with this". Thank you, for once again, not wasting their time! :)

Before I get to the result, I'd like to thank the Judges for taking the time and effort to come to this conclusion.

Your Quick Fire Judges this week were:

You know her. You love her. You covet her icon collection. She's [livejournal.com profile] roina_arwen I know she's wanted to do this sort of thing for a *long* time (and considering that, unless my mental math is faulty, she's the longest-constantly tenured member of Idol, that's quite bit of time!) so I'm glad that I was finally able to cross that off her bucket list. :)

Next up is someone else that you should know. Granted, you may only know him from his stint as a Gatekeeper. But people who know [livejournal.com profile] joeymichaels know him as something of a legendary figure in these halls. I'm really glad that I could coax him back one more time to help out!

I was also fortunate enough to ask an old friend of mine, from back in my fanfic days, to show up and help out. Brent Lambert is a talented writer and an all-around good guy. He's someone that I've always enjoyed knowing and watching grow over the years - but lately he's really stepped up and done something that makes me go "Damn, I KNOW THAT GUY!"

He is in the process of starting R.R.A.P. (Race Relations in the Arts and Politics) which will be officially launching on Feb 1st. I'll definitely be pointing you in his direction when that happens.

One of the people who really excited and impressed me this season, with dedication to LJ Idol and just that general "This is what is about!" spirit was [livejournal.com profile] eternal_ot, combining both compelling writing with an incredible attitude toward life. (Note: One of the things on her "list of accomplishments" is that she is GETTING ENGAGED THIS WEEKEND!)

Last, but certainly not least, is something who spends her time entertaining the world in her travels as well as doing some freelance editing over at Unkind Editor
Most times you would say "When she's not doing that..." but this is [livejournal.com profile] whipchick, so she is ALSO writing her fingers to the bone and doing things being the winner of LJ Idol Season 8!

Thank you to all of you for helping out this week! I know it wasn't an easy decision, but I hope you had fun reading the entries!

***

Now that's out of the way - we have our Results.

One contestant, who participated in this Quick Fire, now has IMMUNITY for Week 34, and a guaranteed spot one step closer to a chance to get into the finale!

Who is that?

[livejournal.com profile] jexia!

Congratulations!

Are you interested in reading the entries yourself, but haven't had the chance to do so? Then go check them out: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/826465.html
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
When I started the Exhibits, I knew that they were going to be something different from a standard Idol season. In the words of Big Brother, I figured that I would be "expecting the unexpected". That was true in Exhibit A where someone amazing showed up from Idol's past and literally just "did her own thing".

With Exhibit B, knowing the twists and turns that I was throwing at people - I wasn't sure how things were going to go. But I knew that I could count on not being able to predict it! True enough, that certainly was the case.

There are two "Idol firsts" in this finale.

We have a tie... which ISN'T the first time that it's happened. (See: Season 2) But what is a first is that there is no run-off, I declared that I would honor the voters. If THEY decided that they wanted two winners, that is what would happen.

There were moments when I wondered if it was going to occur... or if someone would pull a trigger in the last few minutes and put one of them over the top. It almost happened. But then the counter-balance came and evened everything back up again!

The Exhibits were set up as a fundraiser for my engagement. I can't think of a more perfect ending to something about two people coming together than to have two winners!!

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim and [livejournal.com profile] the_lettersea: Winners of LJ IDOL: EXHIBIT B!!

Which, yes, that's the second "first"... a guy has "broken the glass ceiling" of Idol for the very first time!!!

Two amazing writers, and one amazing ending to the mini-season!!

Pop the corks and get out there on the dance floor to celebrate!

Dreslinski out.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The Zeroth poll of Exhibit B is behind us.

Literally.

Try not to look, because we don’t want to let it know that we are onto it. Just be ready to run...

No one was eliminated, but I do believe that I promised that there could be something special in store. *checks* Yep, I did.

I’m pretty that most Idol veterans will know what is coming now. :)

I was prepared to hand out something to the contestant with the fewest amount of votes. However, there is a tie.

So instead, I will hand out a total of THREE Immunity necklaces (one a piece), that can only be used on someone else. That’s right, the person can’t use them to save themselves, but as long as they are in the competition, they have just become your new best friend, if you have a bad week, they can keep you alive in this game! They can give it to someone at any time, up until an hour before the poll closes, from now until the Top 25!

Who are they?

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] dreamwriteremmy, [livejournal.com profile] kajel and [livejournal.com profile] malruniel11 !

Things are just starting to get interesting!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
This was a non-elimination round, but to keep things interesting - we had a poll anyway!

I’m giving the choice of the following four “powers”:

- immunity, one round, must be given to someone else before the vote closes, good between now and the Top 30 - claimed by [livejournal.com profile] n3m3sis42
- Topsy Turvy. Good between now and the Top 30 Usable during “open” votes only. claimed by [livejournal.com profile] java_fiend
- Topsy Turvy. Good between now and the Top 30. Usable during “open” votes only. claimed by (default) by [livejournal.com profile] mstrobel
- A “bye”, May be used to “skip a week’ by self, or transferred to another person, before the topic deadline, any time between now and the Top 30. claimed by [livejournal.com profile] porn_this_way

Who are they going to? Well, it was looking like a blow out in the first 24 hours, but as the time got closer, the numbers pulled in closer, to the point that I didn’t know who the second team was going to be until the last half hour or so!

But the top two teams, and the four individuals, as judged by their fellow contestants, who need to let me know which power they are taking (first come, first served) are:

[livejournal.com profile] porn_this_way/[livejournal.com profile] java_fiend
and
[livejournal.com profile] n3m3sis42/[livejournal.com profile] mstrobel

Congratulations!
