I’ve closed the poll early because [personal profile] erulissedances  opted to sacrifice. There is. No telling where what would have happened if that hadn’t occurred considering that when I closed it, this Write Off was down to a single vote difference!!!

If it wasn’t clear, she was the one that I was talking about when I said how delighted I was to see that people were enjoying this mini season. It was an exciting surprise to see her knocking on the door of the Top 5! With a smaller field there are more chances for people to get noticed. It was an incredible run and I’m so happy that you came out for this mini season!!! I hope you enjoyed yourself. (I know your schedule might make it difficult to home game, but there aren’t very many weeks to to that anyway!)

A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

The “UFO Battle in the Skies” you’ve been waiting for is happening RIGHT HERE!!!

Sure, the prediction got the “skies” part wrong - and both of these writers are very much identified objects. But it’s still a battle!!!

https://www.newsweek.com/futurist-aliens-prediction-december-3-war-1994853

Two very different writers, who have taken very different approaches to this Open Topic prompt. It will be interesting to see who people decide to send forward into the Top 5.

So read, comment and vote for your favorite(s) to advance! The one with the fewest votes will be eliminated.

The poll will close Thursday, December 5th at 9pm ET.

Good luck to you both!

I've been checking in on the results and every time I looked, they were a little different. That teeter totter of death kept moving, finally landing on... you guessed it, a tie.

Which means we another Sudden Death Write Off! This time between

[personal profile] erulissedances and[personal profile] littlebitofearth (We came within a SINGLE VOTE of half the field being in a Write Off)

It is an Open Topic, which means you can write whatever it is that you want, as long as you bring your A-game. This is the difference between the Top 5 and falling a short. But it is also an opportunity to get a little more attention just before that final sprint to the finale!! So use it wisely.

The deadline to link your entry back to this post is Tuesday December 3rd at 9pm ET.

Have fun!

A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

Trying to figure out which of these writers is going to win the mini season might seem like a fool’s errand. But if it is, then we all are fools. Because that is exactly what we are doing here!!

You will be the ones deciding who will be in the Top 5.

Read, comment and vote for your favorite(s)! We will be losing the writer with the fewest votes. (Yes, I said “writer”, singular) Happy American Thanksgiving.

The poll closes Sunday December 1st at 8pm ET.

Good luck to everyone!

The deadline for the prompt is TUESDAY the 26th at 7pm ET. therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1174967.html

I'm mentioning this because there are currently only 2 of the 6 contestants who have posted. So unless you WANT these to be the final two, if you are one of the others, I'd highly suggest getting your entries in tomorrow/today/time is an illusion and also depends on when you see this post!

How is your week going so far?

clauderainsrm: (Default)
[personal profile] clauderainsrm
I should just go ahead and call this "Thanksgiving Week weekend".  :D

Anyone have any plans? Getting together with any family? Friends?  Enemies?  A little of all of the above?

I will be here, in my lair, plotting your eventual destruction. So, you know, pretty much a regular day.  :)

***
There are 6 contestants left in the competition. 1 of them is going to win this mini season. So if you haven't already called your shot and put your money on your favorite, now would be a good time to do it.  I've been hearing quite a bit of chatter out of Vegas on the relative odds of each of them winning.

There is one person left who came right out of the gates swinging with consistently higher numbers.  Pretty sure that is the one someone in a comment (not here, but on an Idol related post) recently declared as "the obvious winner"... which, is definitely possible. However, it's only happened once where someone came out as a the early favorite in Week 1 and ended up winning the whole thing. So the odds are against them being able to carry it out.  Also, the numbers "at the top" have been a lot more competitive these days. So really who knows if they can pull it off.

There is one person left that I don't know.  I was just thinking about it and they did ask "What am I getting myself into" during the sign up, which made me think they were a newbie. Granted, if there weren't a newbie and were a veteran using a new account without telling me, then that would be a far bigger issue. So let's assume they are a newbie. Which means I don't know what they might have up their sleeves for this last stretch.

There is one person that I know way too much about.  :)  So I won't say any more about her, so I can enjoy the rest of my day!  ;)

There is a delightful surprise. Someone who has managed to get better every week, and hang in longer than I would have expected when I set out on this mini season. Which is part of the fun. Who will step up and exceed all expectations? Who will take that step from being really good to being great?  I think there's a really good shot of that happening here.

Speaking of, there is another person who was In this role a couple seasons back and has never looked back or been underappreciated since then. Hopefully the person just before this follows in those footsteps. But for this individual, there really is only one step left on the rung, actually winning. Could this be the time?

There is one person who should never, ever, ever, ever be underestimated and I'm pretty sure people are. Yeah, there are only 6 people left, but leaving her on the board at this point seems a recipe to hand her a win under most circumstances. With how unpredictable this mini season has been though, I guess you could say that about pretty much anyone.  Maybe it's a "if everyone is a threat, then no one is a threat" sort of thing.  :D

***
Not sure if any of that is going to help the odds makers in Vegas.

Who do YOU think is going to take it all???

When I saw that swirlsofpurple was sacrificing, I understood, even though I was sad about it.

But at least it meant that there was one less strike that was going to happen.

Of course, with this group, it's never safe to assume anything. Because that unlikely scenario ended up occurring and there was a tie for that final spot. Which means two people are receiving a strike.

And of course, it's the third strike for both of them.one of them and the first for the other.

>So the scenario I envisioned where only one person would receive a strike and everyone would move forward ends up with two leaving.

What a fantastic duo though. I've absolutely loved getting the chance to read their work this mini season, and I really hope that they will both continue in the Green Rooms (when I post them) and in the Home Game. (not to mention that they will come back when things settle down a little bit in my life and a new regular season can happen)

Until then though, it's goodbye to [personal profile] erulissedances  and strike one for [personal profile] mollywheezy
Sorry for the confusion and thanks to those damn kids with their pesky spreadsheets!

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

One thing I’ve really enjoyed about the 3 Strikes format is that it gives people more leeway to experiment, knowing that as long as they don’t already have 2 strikes, they can play around and have more fun with their entries. Granted, you can do that regardless of how many strikes you have. :) But the fewer you have the more free you are to go in a different direction or just try something different.

The worst thing about it of course is that there are still people who end up striking out. They have 2 strikes and miss that last deadline and you have to say goodbye to them. This week that person is the one and only [personal profile] alycewilson .

I checked her FB, she’s actually out and enjoying her life. So no one has to be concerned considering how out of character that is for her to miss a deadline!

With her gone, and one of the entries being a sacrifice, that margin for error continues to shrink as the numbers decrease.

Which makes every vote that much more important. So make sure you are reading, commenting and voting for your favorites! Then tell your friends to come check out what they’ve been missing!!

The bottom two will receive a strike. As I’ve already said, one of those spots is taken.

The poll will close Sunday, August 28th at 9pm ET.

Good luck to everyone!

I've been watching "The Deuce" on HBO Max. I missed it the first time around, so now I'm binging it. Or at least watching an episode whenever I can.

I decided to start it after watching "We Own This City" - which is from the creators of the "The Wire" and suddenly had a lightbulb go off on the idea "Hey, I really like these two shows from these people, I should check out some of their other shows!!"

So far so good. (just started season 2)

It's funny, because of course if I like a book I will search out more books from that author. But for some reason I don't often do that with writer/creators of television (or even movies). Just every once in awhile I'll find something that start following it.

Who are some of YOUR favorite TV writers and/or howrunners to follow?

Personal update: There really isn't much of one. Other than I've been enjoying Survivor SA (South Africa), the series finale of Better Call Saul and the first episode of She-Hulk! That last one would have upset and confused pre-teen me - but pre-teen me upsets and confuses me, and I used to be him! So he's going to have to deal with that!!

Work update: We went back to the office for 3 days. Then I got COVID and was working from home, and pretty much sending the team back home mid-day because the internet was getting worse the more people who were showing up in the office. This came to a head with a virtual meeting with the CFO where he was in the offfice and everyone else was remote. His connection quit 4 times - and I used that as an opportunity to talk about how we couldn't get anything done in the office. So, until the new building is ready (estimated late September) we are working remote!!!

Bad news in that, the new CFO REALLY understands how valuable we are - and so wants us close to him in the new office. GROAN. The only real hope I have is him understanding that it's going to add an HOUR to my bus commute. (it's only about 10 minutes down the road from the current office, but because of the bus routes...)   Our team is also being moved closer to him in the org chart, moving over to the Finance team.  For those keeping score, that's our third department since I've been supervisor!  :)

Speaking of - tomorrow is the official 6 month mark from when I became "acting supervisor" (the official date when my boss stopped being full time and became MY employee for a few months).  I've managed to hire two people (one great. the other "solid")  Another interview on Wednesday but honestly not expecting to hire her, but who knows - she may be better than she is on paper.   I've also managed to pull back my work hours from over 70 a week to over 60 a week. Well, this week was the first time I've done that in months... but I'm HOPING that's the new trend.

***
I've missed coming in here on a regular basis to talk to you!! How are YOU doing?  I know that me talking about work is COMPLETELY BORING so thanks for just scrolling by it. :)

***
Desree (dmousey) wanted me to tell you that she sends her love. She is back in the hospital, and when she gets out may be losing her house. I've asked for her Paypal info to see if we can help her out. (I even looked to see if I had it from any of the special mini seasons. But I don't seem to...)

Sorry to bring things back down at the end of this post. :) But hey, she sends her love!! That's more love than most of your damn hippies deserve!  ;)  (It's been far too long since I've called all of you a bunch of damn hippies. But seriously, get off my lawn!! ;)  )

So we go to the next stage... another round of wri...

Oh, wait - that's not it either.

They both will move on.

A few words from Gary:

We’ve been here before. Two writers with distinct voices facing off where only one of them is going to be able to walk out of it in one piece.

Just a few days ago, there was a tie between four writers, which ended in a tie with two of them.

This is going to decide who is staying and who is going. (Unless, somehow, this ends in a tie as well!)

The poll closes Sunday, Feb 24th at 10pm EST.

Good luck to both of you!

Well, this really shouldn't be a surprise.

All four contestants tied to get us into this Write Off to begin with.

Now, one vote separated them from being in another tie!

Of course, two of them ended up in yet another tie.

Because that's how we do things.

So it's now an one-on-one showdown between[personal profile] furzicle  and [personal profile] zedmanauk !

One Open Topic entry to decide it all - once and for all! Two writers enter. One writer emerges victorious!

A few words from Gary:

It’s never “your time” to go. In life, or in the game.

If it’s a result people don’t like - they say “it wasn’t their time”.

If it was something they like - or more often, when folks need to feel like there is some structure in the universe, they say that it was.

At the end of the game, there is only one person left standing. In the end of life - that person is me. Sorry, I should have put the “spoiler” on there. I didn’t mean to reveal that I’m actually an immortal being of pure evil. But you could have already guessed that! ;)

With these 4 outstanding writers - 1 of them is about to face their“it’s your time to go” moment in the game.

Even if it’s not really. But sometimes that is the card you draw.

One thing to consider while reading their entries - all 4 of them *knew about the challenge in front of them should they survive. They not only knew about it, they all didn’t blink and wrote AN EXTRA ENTRY, in order to earn the right to fight on in the next week!

So while some might be intimidated by the idea of writing 5 entries, these people are willingly jumping in to get the chance to write a total of 6 in that same time frame! (Maybe less if they decide to wait for the results!)

I took longer to get this poll up (the morning after the deadline actually. Not a long story. Just a boring one that involves “homework drama”) , so I’m going to give you a little longer to read, comment and vote for your favorites!

Because these writers deserve your support.

The poll closes Friday Feb 22nd at 9pm EST. 1 of these 4 isn’t making to next week - and you are going to be the ones deciding who that is going to be!

Good luck to everyone!

It's been one of those days, and from what I've just seen when I was looking over the results, it looks like it's one of those nights as well.

As has been the case in the last couple of weeks the votes trickled in, until they started flooding in at the end.

It's not just true of the poll that everyone sees, it is also true of the Jury vote.

When I say this was a difficult decision for people, there are a couple ways of showing evidence of that. One is mentioning the multiple Jurors who mentioned "this is a really difficult decision" in their emails to me.

Another is to point out that of the 16 contestants, 14 of them are eligible to receive immunity (no one can receive it twice) and 11 of them received votes this time! The other three? Weren't in the danger.

That Jury vote came down to a *single vote*. One vote, the last one to be received, determined who would be getting immunity this week. And that's important, because it just threw a wrench into the poll, as usual.

The poll itself, also came down to a single vote. Which is why it's a four way tie and not a five way.

We were set to lose two, but instead we will be losing one, and sending four others into a Sudden Death Write Off for their lives in this competition. (with two others escaping that fate by, again, a single vote)

Before I get to that, the person we are losing tonight is the great [personal profile] static_abyss . One vote was the difference between staying and going into a Write Off. Given the level of competition in this mini season, I hope that is seen as the positive that it should be - that they were awesome enough to make it this far in the competition and came within a hair of making an even longer run.

I'm definitely going to miss your writing - and hope that you decide to Home Game! But at least we will continue to feel your presence as part of the Jury helping to decide how this mini season is going to play out. (and I hope to keep seeing you in the Green Room as well!)

Which brings us to the question of "Who received immunity?". If you are looking at the poll, you know that answer - but if you aren't, this week the Jury selected [personal profile] yachiru .

Congratulations on getting to fight another week!

The Four who are going on to compete in a Sudden Death Write Off are:

[personal profile] babydramatic_1950
[personal profile] dmousey
[personal profile] furzicle
and [personal profile] zedmanauk

As usual, it's an Open Topic and you have until Wednesday, Feb 20th at 9pm EST to link your entry to the thread below.

Have fun!

There's one day left in the voting, and if the last few weeks are an indication, that means most of the votes are going to be hitting in the next 24 hours. Right now, it's still very much anyone's game to win or lose: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1044037.html

So it's a good time to talk about your favorite entries from the week? What did you see that made you go "Hell yeah! I want more of that!"

***

Anything from your weekend that made you go "Hell yeah! I want more of that!"? Or was it just a "No thanks. No more of that please"?
clauderainsrm: (Default)
[personal profile] clauderainsrm
A few words from Gary:

When I saw that there were 16 entries submitted, my first thought was to wonder who had missed the deadline. We were clearly missing some people.

That was when it hit me - we weren’t.

We are just down to 16 contestants.

¼ of those remaining are going to make up the Final Four, and walk away with their share of this mini season’s prize money purse.

It could be you. (if you are one of those 16 people)

It could be one of your personal favorites. I could have four of your personal favorites!

The only thing you need to do to make sure that they are is read the entries from this week, comment on them to let the writers know what you think - and vote for your favorites!

Then tell some friends to check out what is going on here, and to do the same!

Someone else is going to be doing that - so unless you want *their* favorites to be ones at the end, you need to be spreading the word!

We are going to be losing 2 more this week. Judging by what I just read as I was putting everything in the poll, it’s going to be another difficult choice to make. I’m glad that I’m not the one making it.

The poll closes Tuesday, Feb 19th at 9pm EST

Good luck to everyone!
