LJ Idol Season 9 is over!

Our winner has been crowned http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/851230.html and now it's time for a couple last details to wrap up things up as the cleaning crew takes over the Green Room to clean it up for next time!

- If you want to become a Patron, and support LJ Idol you can do so at: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027 There's also a "two for one" option for the upcoming mini-season, if you are interested.

- If you want to help Idol but really love shopping at Amazon, the perfect solution is to go through this link: http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20 when you shop!

- If you want to help Idol, but are unable to do either of those (or just don't want to) - then spread the word! Let people know that LJ IDOL will be coming back and they should come out to join the fun!

In the spirit of that last one, we always cap the season with a Friending Frenzy!

So, if there are people you have been meaning to friend this season, or just want to introduce yourself in hopes of meeting some new folks, this is great opportunity to do that.

Tell your friends!

Some say "LJ is dying", but maybe that means we are also becoming a tighter knit group! Spread to word to people looking for others with active Livejournals. You don't get much more "active LJers" than Idol folks! :D

Every season is different. There are different people, in different combinations and if I were to map out how each of them were going to go, I would fail at it every time.

This season's theme was modeled after the Muppet Show, a crazy cast of characters all doing their own thing, with a frantic frog trying his best to make it work as a coherent show.

I think the Muppets may have been based on real life LJ Idol events. :)

The season itself certainly fulfilled that theme. It was long, it was difficult at times, but I hope, at the end of the day, that it was fun.

The poll is now closed and the votes have been examined. Which means that it's now time to make the official announcements:

In third place we have one of this season's biggest cheerleaders and (I hope) someone who is going to be around to help push this competition into the future. It's kind of fitting that someone like her would finish in the same spot that [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedluna did in *her* first season.

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] bleodswean

In second place, I will come right out and call her this season's powerhouse. Because that's what she is - and I have a feeling that she will continue the proud tradition of Second Place finishers like [livejournal.com profile] notodette in knocking things out of the park for a long time to come.

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] gratefuladdict

In first place... well, that could only be one person now couldn't it?

She first showed up in Idol during Season 4 and ended up taking a far too long sabbatical from us, and writing on a regular basis. Now she has become the second veteran to win, as well as being a genuine, all-around kind person and talented writer! None of those are easy to obtain.

Congratulations to our Winner, Your LJ IDOL for Season 9- [livejournal.com profile] suesniffsglue!!!

Thank you to all of our finalists and to all of you who participated in making this season so very special.

I hope that you know how much I truly appreciate your continued support.

LJ Idol will return for a mini-season and a Season 10, but for now...

Dreslinski out!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The poll closes tonight at 10pm EST.

The *season* closes then.

I know I keep saying it. But I'm trying to get my head around it as much as everyone else is - maybe a little bit more, because when I envisioned this, it was going to end with a "fade to black".

Now it's more of a "see you next time!"

We've had births. We've had deaths... omg, we've had deaths. We went an entire 8 seasons plus two mini seasons with only losing one person who was a "friend of a friend" of Idol - and a mega-champion cat.

We lost three people during Season 9. One of them dying while she wrote her Idol entry. (That's not something that gets any easier with time.)

I want this season to end in a way that honors all of that. An ending where people can point to the result and say "Damn, Season 9 was something special. It was worth going through all of that".

I can say that all three finalists are incredible writers, and people. I think their entries speak for themselves about what a difficult choice this is - and really just how different each of them are!

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/850328.html

This season *is* an ending. It is also a beginning. Like most stories.

Thanks to my friends in the Indiana Legislature - after this week's vote, I am going to pass a rule barring me from having to serve same sex couples, on religious grounds.

I will also not be serving different sex couples.

Couples in general.

Single people.

People in general

Other life forms participating in Livejournal.

Other life forms participating in any form of social media.

Things that may or may not be considered "life forms"

Once this vote is over, I will not be serving anyone, for any reason... until of course it's time to start up again. :)

Until then though - there is still a poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/850328.html and what a huge difference 24 hours made. I imagine that the next 24 will probably provide another shift in votes. Make sure you are making *your voice* heard on who will win!

Heck, once this is over - I may follow that guy in California's lead and declare that it's OK to start shooting people I don't like! :)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The final poll is happening now: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/850328.html

There is an early lead. But this is Idol. Maybe it will expand. Maybe it will shift. Honestly, I have no idea. I just want to make sure that no one looks and thinks "Well, my vote doesn't matter!" Because it always does.

***

People have been asking what my plans are during the off-season. This of course implies that I *have* an off-season. :)

A good part of my time is probably going to be spent getting ready for the mini-season.

Well, that and finding a new job. A lot of the timing of the mini-season is going to revolve around what I find, when, and the details of that job. (when I need to be into work/when I get home) I'll want to stabilize as much as possible before adding an element as chaotic as Idol!

For the mini-season, keep in mind that I have a 2 for 1 thing on the Patreon page. :) You get an automatic spot in any mini-seasons that occur while you are a patron, plus an extra one for a friend. (as opposed to waiting for the sign up sheet and hoping to get there before I close it out)

I may take a week or two off though. But I doubt my brain will let me rest much longer than that!

***

What about YOU? What are your plans?

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

The road was long and filled with pitfalls.

But all roads come to an end, and all adventures must cease at some point, so that we can look back on them and see the full picture.

That’s what is happening now. We are going to decide how this adventure is going to end.

There are three outstanding writers. But, I’m happy to say, there are also three outstanding people. I would be proud to call any of them the winner of this season, and honestly, this is one of those times when if I didn’t already vote for everyone, I would.

Read their words. Reflect on their journeys, and your own. Comment to their entries - and then make that decision on which of these women will be forever called 9. (or the winner of the LJ Idol Season 9, but I will just call them 9! :D)

The poll, and the season, closes Thursday, March 26th at 10pm EST

Good luck to everyone!

The final entries of the season are due tonight: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/849591.html

Which means we will soon to focusing on the final vote.

Before we get there though - what was your favorite part of the season? Who are you glad to have the chance to meet/interact with that you wouldn't have if it wasn't for being a part of Idol?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's the start of our last week together.

There were results last night http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/849155.html as well as the Final Topic of the season going up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/849591.html

Yes, I did say that it was "our last week together". By this time next week - Season 9 will be a thing you can look back on. There were definitely times when it seemed like that would never happen.

What is the plan going forward?

Well, I'm going to be resting for a little bit.

I would still like to do that "Idol Jr" idea, if people are still interested/think they know someone who would be.

After that, I'll need to find someone to design the new page/maybe work with LJ designers (something that I've resisted, but maybe it's time to do that) on creating something for the next mini-season. No idea when that will start. It will probably be a few months.

So enjoy these last few Green Rooms, and these last few moments together.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
There is a tradition we have in LJ Idol.

Every season, we end with the same topic.

You have made a long journey together in a full season. In THIS season, you have made the longest journey of all time.

You have made friends, maybe a few enemies.

It's not just about sharing a space. It's about being able to express what that means -

while balancing out making your case and showcasing the talent of those who have gotten here with you.

That topic is Why I Should Win LJ Idol/Why My Opponents Should Win

I'm really looking forward to seeing how you each decide to close this season out.

The deadline to link your entries back to this thread is Monday, March 23rd at 8pm EST

Have fun!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It came down to a couple votes.

Which is the way it should be with these four.

But, unfortunately, someone had to leave right before the finals.

That someone is [livejournal.com profile] crisp_sobriety, who came out of Last Chance Idol and managed to battle it out week after week, producing some amazing work in the process.

I can't even say "I hope you Home Game for the rest of the season", because the "rest of the season" is just a couple days away from ending. But I will say that I really hope that we will continue to see you around these parts, not only as a contestant, but as a community member, because I think you really brought a lot of good things to the table.

Thank you for coming out and helping to make this season special.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I went into this week thinking that there were 3 likely scenarios for how this was going to play out. Which, considering that there are 4 people left, that's still pretty much up in the air.

Just the various factors seemed to be lining up that way, and would either confirm or restructure the narrative of the last part of this season that exists entirely in my head.

I was pretty sure though that one of those 4 was a shoo-in to get to the finale.

Now? http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/848632.html

Now I think there are 4 scenarios and no one is safe.

Two veterans vs two newbies

Two underdogs vs two people who have had their names "in the mix" to win since Day 1.

It's coming down to this last vote to decide who is going to have a shot to plead their case, and right now (as I'm writing this) there is a 3 vote margin between being the person who is out and the person with the most votes!

This could very well come down to the wire, so please make sure to keep all hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times!

*sets out the brunch buffet*

There will be cake later.

Until then, I hope you enjoy.

Happy 1,600th Green Room.

Sure, it's an odd number to be celebrating - but I thought we needed a little celebration around this place, followed by "I wonder how many Green Rooms have we had?" :)

***

Speaking of something to celebrate - we have some terrific entries: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/848632.html

The Home Game: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/847888.html

and that tribute to Fran where there's already one great entry, and I hope to be seeing more over the next couple of days: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/845386.html

***

anyway - back to the buffet, what are you going to grab first?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

They had 24 hours to write, and write they did.

I think you are going to be really impressed with what they came up with!

Unfortunately though, we are going to lose one of them.

So make sure to take the time to read, comment, and vote for your favorites!

The poll closes Thursday, March 19th at 10pm EST

Good luck to everyone!

[Poll #2004049]

Happy St Patrick's Day! What could be more "St Patricks Day" than a GREEN room?

Or maybe it's UnHappy Day After the Results: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/847519.html depending on your mood.

At this point, everyone has fans and supporters - and anyone leaving is going to be rough - and everyone is hoping that it's going to be rougher for people they *aren't* backing! :)

Which is normal. People get emotionally attached and everyone has their own bias.

MY bias is that we have a great season and a winner I can point to and say "They did a great job!", as well as someone who is willing to email with me and talk me off a ledge or two. :)

I want someone who is going to be supportive of Idol in the future.

I think all 4 of the remaining contestants are people who will be that.

(Heck, I think any of the Top 20 would have been good picks. But the voters have been making some tough decisions over the last few weeks, that I'll be honest - I'm glad I didn't have to make those calls!)

There's one more topic between now and the end! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/847866.html

I just put up a Home Game thread, so if anyone wants to link their own pieces - they can! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/847888.html

The great [livejournal.com profile] joeymichaels has just posted a tribute entry for the [livejournal.com profile] walkertxkitty memorial thread: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/845386.html You should definitely check it out, and add one of your own.

***

and yes, Kristin has continued to win, so check her out again on Jeopardy tonight! It's always thrilling to see someone you know do well!

(btw - tomorrow is our 1,600th Green Room! Who is bringing the cake?)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's an "Open Topic" week - so when better to have a Home Game thread?!

Have fun, and link your entries back to this thread when you are done!

(For those playing along with the Entry Count: It's now at 19,940. 60 more entries to go in order to hit 20,000!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
This is your LAST topic before the finals. That's right, it's a Final 3.

What is it?

It's an OPEN topic.

Which means there is absolutely no restriction on you. Let loose.

This is your final chance to put your stamp on this season, because we all know what the last topic is...

So make this one count.

Link your entry back to this thread by Tuesday, March 17th at 10pm EDT

Did I just give you a 24-hour deadline?

Yes. I just did.

Bring your A-Game! (and have fun!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I was recently reminded of an old conversation that I had in Idol, where it was pointed out that the more I like someone, the more likely I am to "celebrate" their elimination and/or mock them.

If that is true, then I *really* should be mocking this week's boot, because I like her, and her work, a whole lot.

So insert a bunch of snarky things here as a placeholder until I can think of some good ones.

This week's results were influenced by the final Jury decision - giving [livejournal.com profile] suesniffsglue immunity. Which means she is safe from the vote and now in the Top 4.

Which means the person with the next fewest votes will be leaving us.

This is the second time I've had to do this, and really it doesn't get any easier. Last time she was eliminated this season, the Spirit of LJ Idol, Season 9 [livejournal.com profile] kickthehobbit used her power to bring her back into the game.

Unfortunately, no such twist is in play. Which means, this time, it's for good.

And damnit, I really need something snarky to say here. Because it really sucks to be losing her. But she co-won Exhibit B, and she definitely won over a lot of hearts this season.

So that's something - and hell, she got to the Top 5! AFTER COMING BACK INTO THE GAME! (which, I mention again because I know that's something people like to talk about.)

[livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim, I won't be missing you at all. I will be annoying the shit out of you now that I can treat you as a former winner instead of a contestant. :)

But I *will* be missing your entries. So I hope we will see them in the Home Game!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
No, I haven't forgotten about you. :)

Hopefully *you* haven't forgotten about the poll that is closing today! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/846929.html

There are some pretty big decisions taking place over these next couple of weeks, that are going to determine who is going to win this thing!

***
Speaking of winning - Friend of Gary - Kristin Sausville will be on Jeopardy! again this evening!

***

So, how have *you* been doing?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

Before tonight, I never knew there was such a thing as “wasp duty”, or that it was my job.

But apparently it is - and I’m still trying to accomplish the task of finding this dreaded wasp that I still haven’t seen - and remove it from the house, dead or alive!

Wish me luck.

There are some people though, who are going to need a little more than just luck.

They need you to read their entries, comment on them - and then vote for your favorites!

They need you to tell your friends to do exactly the same - reading all of them and deciding which ones are their favorites, because they are all good!

The poll will close Monday, March 16th at 9pm EST at which point the contestant with the lowest amount of votes will be joining the Home Game.

Good luck to everyone!

Greetings from Spring Break, and the relaxation that I have been needing with all of the stress going on right now.

You on the other hand still have quite a bit of stress happening. You have a deadline!

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/846266.html

I know that there have also been a few people asking if they can still submit entries for the walkertxkitty tribute. Of course you can! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/845386.html In fact, I'd encourage that people do so.

***

In other news, my friend Kristin, from the Survivor group that I am on, won her first round of Jeopardy last night (Wednesday). This means that you have the chance to cheer her on tonight as well!

Granted, the episodes were filmed a couple months ago, but it's still pretty exciting, since she hasn't been able to talk about it until the episodes air!

***

I hope that your 24-hours have been even a fraction as good as mine have been.
