Our friend Tinhuviel

I am on vacation, having one of the most wonderful times of my life.

I met an Idoler today.

I came back to my hotel to check facebook and heard the unthinkable.


We have lost the first winner of LJ Idol. The original. Season 1 winner tinhuviel has stepped into the darkness that she knew far too well.

She posted a Donnie Darko rabbit in the Looney Tunes logo saying "that's all folks", and went to hang herself.

I don't give these details for any reason other than her family shared that - and those were Tin's last words on this planet. That was how she wanted to be remembered, that morbid sense of humor that shaped who she was.

There aren't many people around now who were around then. But she did poke her head in now and then - and she was frequently a Gatekeeper.

I can't even wrap my brain around this right now. So many things to say about how awesome she was - or how one of the reasons we became friends was that her picture kind of reminded me of my cat.

What I feel I need to say right now is that she was loved. YOU are loved.

Things might suck. But please stick around. Please reach out and talk to people.

Oh no. That's terrible. We talked today about how you, in particular, get to meet people from all places and all walks of life. Unfortunately, that also includes the happy and the sad.

It's a big responsibility. One has to remember that, online, you only interact with one facet of a person. Or they may not share all facets with you. (Or any of us.) We all need to remember to treat the slivers of personalities that we meet online with respect and care.

She was from Season 1, which, as I was mentioning - were all my friends. At one point we were really close. That changed over the years. But... yeah...

Oh, wow. I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm not sure I know her (or would remember her without her real name, so if I did know her via FB, can you let me know at some point?), but this is so terrible to know.

Social media only allows us to see so much. Even here, in this space where we have more than 160 characters (or whatever the limit is) to say what we need to say. But we don't always share the darkness. We don't have to.

Please stick around and reach out is an important message, and I agree with it. I've been through my own times of darkness, from which I thought that was The End - but I'm here. I'm glad. I'm glad I found help. And I can only hope others do as well.

Again, I'm so sorry to hear this news. I'm certain she was very loved. <3

Oh, sweetheart! I am SO sorry. I didn't see this when I posted the GR early this AM, I'd even refreshed, or so I thought. =( I am really terribly sorry. I wasn't here in S1, and I didn't know Tim, but they were someone you loved and just knowing that, I know I would have loved 'em too!
