100 Weeks

Getting to 100 Weeks in LJ Idol isn't easy.

Doing it while being completely awesome is even more difficult.

This guy has managed to do both of those things.

The one thing that sticks out in my head is back in Season 6 a comparison was made by one of the other contestants: That most of the writing in Idol was "told in the feminine voice" but this guy was the "definitive masculine voice of Idol".

It's been a few years, and other guys have definitely added their own voices to the mix. But I think there's still some truth to that.

Welcome to the 100 Weeks Club [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp!!

Cheers!

The dates results blindsided me almost as badly as my Internet provider did! Apparently, they cannot fix it remotely and need to send out a technician. Which means nothing can be done until Tuesday!

So I am using my phone. Which means I will be brief, and give you the topic information tomorrow, as well as a couple special announcements!

The only announcements I have now all about immunity and elimination. So, a little good and a little bad news.

The good news first - The jury gives immunity to [livejournal.com profile] halfshellvenus!

The killing floor gives immunity to [livejournal.com profile] swirlsofblue

Congratulations to you both!

However that does have repercussions in the poll, and it means we are saying goodbye to

[livejournal.com profile] the_lettersea and [livejournal.com profile] tsuki_no_bara.

Those are difficult losses to take, but aren't they all?

They will become a part of the jury, responsible for giving immunity in future weeks, And I hope we will see them in the home game!

Thank you for helping make this season awesome!

There is a poll that closes tonight: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/816301.html
There is a Killing Floor/Home Game that is going on, where people who are contributing are going to be able to give someone immunity! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/815412.html

There is also the Jury who will be able to give someone else immunity!

With the votes as close as they are currently, and have been for the duration of the poll - I think it's safe to say that *no one* should be feeling entirely comfortable right now!

If you want to make the case for why your favorites should stick around - and what is so awesome about what they did this week, this would be a good time to do it!

***

There is also something on my mind today, and it's about the Topics from the season.

I honestly can't recall if I did end up explaining them or kicking the can until the end of the season. But I was just looking at the list this morning and thought "You know - I should probably talk a little more about that". :)

During the last part of Season 8 and through the Exhibits, I was watching the "Idol Friends" feed. Which contains everyone who has LJ Idol on their friends list and their public posts. (Unless I personally am friends with you) I usually check it out, just to see what is going on.

The question of "Where did some of these weird ass/stupid/horrible/insert negative word here topics come from?" They came from *things Idol contestants and followers were TALKING ABOUT during that time period.* Things that I thought "Hmmm - that's interesting." or "I can relate that to *my own experience* through the duration of Idol."

So yeah, the topics this season have been extremely personal. Not just MY journey throughout the years being reflected, but literally taken directly *from you*!

Which is part of what was so frustrating about the response to them. You were talking about each other! (as well as, again, my reflections of my own journey)

The Muppet Show is a collection of diverse and completely wacky characters - all doing their own thing - coming together under the direction of one determined and often stressed out frog who just wants to put on a good show. Which definitely has a connection to what goes on here at Idol! Which Muppet are you?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate it. Even to those who don't celebrate it.

My main criteria for a holiday is "Does anyone give me presents?" Since I have not yet received any for Hanukkah, I am doubting that it exists. However, there are still more nights for me to be proven wrong!

(Note: It's the same reason why "Your Birthday" doesn't really register to me. As far as I know, [livejournal.com profile] fourzoas is the only one with a real one)

There was a comment tucked into the space of the sparsely commented Green Room from yesterday. One that I thought merited more attention, so I'm grabbing it and putting it right here in front of you! Of course, you could very well ignore it again. ;)

The parts in quotes are the original statement. The rest is me adding my own charming commentary. Which is both charming and commentary.

"I think this season, maybe more than others, has a lot of Identity stuff going on."

I definitely agree with this statement.

"What is LJ Idol when LJ is allegedly "dying"?"

It still very much has a place in LJ, and in writing communities in general. I think we are still are doing some cool things, even if it's on a platform that doesn't have the attention that it had when we started.

"What does it mean for LJI to be cross-platform, on twitter, facebook, and ello and all that?"

My take (and plan) for posting cross-platform is the same as it was on Day 1 in Idol when I decided that people would post *links to their posts* on the Idol site rather than their actual stories. Several people (including my assistant at the time) argued that they should be posted here, and that the community should be entirely self-contained.

I maintained "it's THEIR stories, they need to be posted *in their space*". It's the same reason I set things up to have open voting, with people encouraging their friends to show up to Idol to vote.

I put up a topic and then send you out to your space. You post it there and gather attention for it... then you bring that back into Idol for voting... the voters then go out from this center hub to *other people's posts*... and the cycle continues. It's all about creating word of mouth and new blood into the system, so it's not just the same people sitting around reading the same old things.

That's how I look at cross-promotion with other platforms.

I *hated* it when LJ introduced it. So anyone saying "YOU ALLOW IT!". I didn't have a choice. It is literally "LJ is doing this. You adapt or you throw up your hands saying OMG IT'S NOT THE SAME!!!" and pull the plug.

But as time has gone on, I've slowly been figuring out ways to use it. My intent is to throw it out there in these various places and bring back new readers/writers. People who may have forgotten about LJ, or never heard of it. People who thought "that's dead" can see "wow, there's something cool going on over there".

Throw out the net, and bring them all back into LJ... hopefully encouraging them to set up accounts in the process. (I don't* require it, because again, that would mean me saying "Yeah, those 3 votes don't count... sorry person who was eliminated by 2 votes. Take my word for it, those were from Twitter")

That's why I did the interviews and have been trying to get the word out about Idol - to bring more people into the fold. Which, hopefully, gets more people to read your entries! :)

"Who is it "for"?"

LJ IDOL has been "for" the same thing from Day 1 until this very moment - to amuse me. :)

It started because I wanted to have some fun with friends. It's continued because it was a way to make new friends and have some fun with them.

You, as writers and readers, *get something out of it* as well. Which is awesome - it's designed to be that way *because I want you to keep coming back*!

(So anyone who says "Gary will understand why I want to work on such-and-such instead of play Idol this season". On some levels - sure. On other levels - I want all my friends to come over to my house and play in this sandbox! Why wouldn't I???)

"What comes next, for any of us, including you? These are all things we've been asking - quietly or loudly or muttering continually under our collective breaths - all season, trying to figure it out."

Which probably hasn't been helped by the fact that *I* don't know either! :)

I made the "Season 9 will be the final season, unless something unexpected happens" back when - honestly - I was feeling like "maybe I won't be around that long". It was a goal, a commitment at a time when every season had a huge "Maybe I'll come back and do this again - and maybe I won't."

I wanted to lock it down. Set it in stone. There WOULD be a Season 9. After that was entirely up to "unless something unexpected happens".

Along the way, several unexpected things *have* happened. Both good and bad. What that means for the long term Idol - I have no idea.

Here's what I *can* tell you: I have a project that I want to run after this season ends. I keep calling it my "special project" but I've told a few people about it off-Idol, it was my last email conversation with Nathalie actually) so I might as well say it "out loud":

It's a couple week "Idol Jr" - for kids. There were a couple kids participating this season, and in the past. My own bonus-daughter-to-be *wants* to play Idol. But there's no way I'd throw her into the shark tank! But maybe a thing with prompts and voting (but no eliminations) with kid-friendly topics might be fun.

*shrug* That's the plan anyway. We will see if there is any response to it.

After that, I want to run a mini-season in the late Spring.

No guarantees after that. BUT it will put us awfully close to our 10th anniversary. That's really tempting. If there was going to be a full Season 10... it would certainly fit, wouldn't it?

So there you go - *most* of my thoughts on the subject of "what's next?"

All of this, of course, is entirely dependent on my friends showing up to play in the sandbox - and bringing *their* friends with them! So I hope that you will!

"And as we're all part of this collective community, that also means figuring ourselves out, and this space out. "

Which has been a conversation that's been going on from the very first moment I posted in here, and continues to evolve with each new group making their contributions to the dialogue.

We have a Vote going on: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/816301.html
We have a Killing Floor/Home Game happening: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/815412.html

and because no post would be complete without it - there is only ONE shirt to sell with the original design before the first run of Idol t-shirts can happen: http://teespring.com/LJIdol I'm debating if I should leave them open, or close them (thus giving the order to print early and making them a Limited run) and just sell the alternates http://teespring.com/LJIDOL3 for a bit.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I just received a phone call from Adnan Syed letting me know that he had absolutely nothing to do with this week's poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/816301.html

I'm not sure what to think though, so I will be exploring this in a 12 part podcast.

In the meantime, make sure you check out that link so that you can weigh the evidence for yourself!

Or take part in the Killing Floor/Home Game and help protect the innocent! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/815412.html

Who is innocent in YOUR life? Who is most definitely guilty?

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

The Moon Bears have been busy this week.

Our contestants have gone through the gauntlet, taking a critical hit to their numbers. Now that they are on the other side though, with the finish line in sight - it turns out the Moon Bears were waiting for them on the other side.

They mauled [livejournal.com profile] crackpotpie and took what was left of her body to their secret base inside the nostril of the Sphinx. (although no one knows for sure if it’s at the real one or the one at Vegas that is controlled by the reanimated Elvis)

Because of this, she is no longer with us. But if she ever escapes, I hope that she will find her way to the Home Game and to enjoy being part of the Jury!

Soon the Moon Bears may come for us all. Well, all of you at least.

One of you may be lucky enough to get away though. It’s just a matter of figuring out which one!

The past couple of weeks have had twists on who can vote.

This week does not.

It’s an Open Poll - so anyone with an account is allowed to cast a vote - so I hope you encourage people to check out what is going on here! There aren’t many folks left, so people definitely “have the time” to read them all - and it’s guaranteed that it will be worth their time, because everyone is pretty damn awesome!

The only twists come in the form of the Jury, who will be giving one person immunity this week. Also those participating in the Home Game/Killing Floor who will be doing the same! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/815412.html

That could end up altering the results quite a bit!

We will be losing the bottom two this week.

So get out there - Read, Comment and Vote for your favorites!

The poll closes Thursday, Dec 18th at 9pm EST

Good luck to you all!

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time.

I'm going to lose my job.

At some point.

The lease on the space my company is currently in is up in March, and most of what we used to do has been outsourced to other locations and an entirely different system, that we have been trained on, but never received.

So right now, everyone is focused in on March as "when we might not have jobs".

Before that, it was "before Christmas".

Before that, it was "Sept"

And so forth going back the past couple of years, with that sense of "this is it" growing every time, and the personnel shrinking and not being replaced as time moves forward.

COULD it actually happen? Yeah. It really could.

Will it? I honestly don't know. Every bullet has whizzed by for a couple years now, and there is every reason to think that sooner or later, one of them will end up hitting.

So why stay? Because I like it there (most days) and I have hope that although things might not always look the best, there is always a chance to turn things around.

There are other factors involved in the work situation, but let's be honest- this is all just a chance for me to talk about my feelings toward Livejournal.

Over the years I've heard reports of the site's death pretty much every month. How it's not like it was before and how it's pretty much doomed.

All of that may be true.

But it's still here - and you are still here.

I see people on FB posting "I wish I could still post this on Livejournal". Guess what? YOU CAN!

The site isn't an active as it was - and there are a lot of factors involved in that. But there is one of those that all of us have a say in... continuing to use the site and continuing to let other people know that it might not be the newest or shiniest thing out there in the world of social media, but it's still pretty damn awesome.

Another thing you may have doubts about is your survival during the final vote of 2014. That's getting ahead of yourself. First thing you need to do is make sure you get your entry in! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/814969.html or the Home Game/Killing Floor for those who are not current contestants: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/815412.html

The deadline is MONDAY December 15th AT 8PM EST! That is something you can control, it is something you can make sure happens. There are so many other factors out there where it isn't true. But this, you can!

How was your weekend? What were the factors you were able to control and the one that were subject to "greater forces"?

What a night!

I revealed the Gatekeepers: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/814499.html
Then announced who they had eliminated: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/814597.html and they officially became the first members of THE JURY who will be deciding who gets immunity each week.
Week 31 got started with a new Topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/814969.html
and a Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/815283.html

Then this morning I posted the Home Game/Killing Floor: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/815412.html

For those paying attention, yes - that means out of the 24 remaining contestants, there is a chance for TWO of them to have immunity each week! If you don't think that could come into play at some point, you're crazy! (Looks around at the remaining contestants... I think that's already been established though)

I've been answering a few emails about the t-shirts with people asking "can I do such and such?" So I've made some variations available based on that. Apparently changing the color of text and bolding thinks costs a little more, but I put it at the same under $2 profit margin for each thing. If you have any other suggestions of what you would like to see - let me know!

So there is the original run: http://teespring.com/LJIdol that is 2 shirts away from being a reality and the second run: http://teespring.com/LJIDOL3 has just come online.

They make great holiday presents! It doesn't matter what holiday you celebrate!! Well, OK, I'm not sure if they do or not. But maybe they do!!

There are definitely some great gift ideas in our Gift Shop: http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20 or you can just click through there on your way to Amazon!

So - how are you feeling this morning?

It's another week and another Home Game thread, with a Killing Floor twist!

This is a place to post your entries to the latest topic "“The future outwits all our certitudes” if you are not a current contestant. Maybe you were eliminated or dropped. Perhaps you are only now finding Idol but just want to write.

This is the place to link your entry!

The Killing Floor twist means that we are encouraging constructive criticism for the entries - and anyone who either (1) posts two pieces of constructive criticism to this thread OR posts a Home Entry and one piece of constructive criticism will be eligible to send me an email (at clauderainsrm@gmail.com ) to give me their top 3 choices for immunity for the week.

Have fun!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
You survived the Gatekeepers. Looking around at who is left standing, there is a quote that comes to mind.

That quote is our topic this week:

“The future outwits all our certitudes”

You have until Monday, Dec 15th at 8pm EST to link your entry back to this thread!

Have fun!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Congratulations to our Top 25! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/814597.html

Before you start getting into this week's topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/814969.html
just stop and celebrate that for a moment. Let it sink in.

Jack Foster sent along comments for a couple people - and if you are one of them I will include that bit in with your "in danger" "safe" or "very safe" standing in the Gatekeeper round. I should probably note here that only *2* of you were "very safe".

Which brings me to something else he had in that email - which is always good advice and something that I've been pushing here and in the Killing Floor. But it's never a bad thing to hear it from a stranger:

"Hi and thank you for inviting me to your party. This was a lot of fun.

One note in general: you guys should be editing each other; the comment section is great for that. To be clear, I don’t mean critiquing, but editing. Some of you are very tight and you should be helping the other ones out. No need to be pedantic, just “hey, how about a semicolon after that second sentence” or “perhaps that line would read better as two independent clauses”. The more you watch for it in other people the better you get at seeing it in your own; I, for example, love to comma splice, I’m doing it now, I’m all but blind to them. A good edit is always best from a second pair of eyes and this is a great place for that. Just do it kindly J"

[livejournal.com profile] elledanger added something of her own in her email: "I really enjoyed the entries that opened strongly and within the first two paragraphs were able to demonstrate an economy and precision in their story telling. Unlike entries that used that same space for world building or pre-ambles; if you're going to tell me it gets better 500 words in, please, you need to cut those first 500 words. This is because the good entries have already gotten my attention and good will in the same amount of time that I've gotten distracted and bored with those I didn't enjoy. And it takes spectacular writing to win me around once I'm bored."

If you take a look at the Gatekeeper comments http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/814499.html there are themes there. Things you SHOULD be doing. Things you SHOULD NOT be doing. Listen to them. Take them to heart and then follow the one biggest piece of advice you are hearing: Your Work Needs to Take Risks. This isn't the time of the competition to play it safe. It's the time to knock that door down and declare "I'm going to win this thing and here's why".
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com

Week 31 is now in the history books.

Go, check. Just pick up a history book anywhere, and there will be a chapter on LJ Idol Week 31. There might even be pictures.

Maybe of you.

Maybe of you doing things that you don’t want to have published in history books.

You should have thought of that before you did it!

You can never be too sure of what is going to end up in history books these days!

This was a tight race for the final elimination spot, and for awhile, it looked like the Immunity handed out by the Jury was going to decide it.

As it was though, that didn’t end up happening, and Immunity was awarded to:

[livejournal.com profile] myrna_bird!

Congratulations!

Eliminations are always sad. Especially at this point.

But there is also a certain satisfaction, knowing how far people made it, and just how close to the end they ended up getting. In some cases, not just beating their own expectations, but blowing them out of the water!

So, yes, it’s Goodbye - and Please Continue to Home Game...
and of course, Welcome to the Jury...

But it’s also a tribute to just how talented these people are, to have made it to this spot in the competition...

This week we are losing

[livejournal.com profile] dslartoo
[livejournal.com profile] jem0000000
[livejournal.com profile] m_malcontent

There was a tie for the 4th spot - so we will be having a one-on-one run-off next week! That should up the ante!!

The run-off will be between [livejournal.com profile] everywordiwrite and [livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim!

I was waiting for the verdict on the Affordable Health Care Act before I posted. After all, I didn’t want to get lost in the flurry of posting, regardless of which way it went.

Now that we know – now I can start protesting every time people say the ideas that I had 20 years ago are good ones!!

They AREN’T good. They were crazy socialist ideas! Dangerous ideas! I should have never supported them, over and over, and over again! I should have never tried to implement them!!

Because sooner or later, someone that I don’t like will end up doing it!! Then it will be the end of the world, and I will have to yell about it! Because my ideas are bad! Awful ideas! They will destroy the country! Unless of course, I had been able to do them, in which case they would have been about personal responsibility and the best ideas ever!

But since I didn’t…

***
My ideas NOW are all about the poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/580582.html with maybe a few thoughts toward the Home Game as well: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/579956.html

But not TOO many, because eventually I’m going to need to come out against all of this!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Trigger Warning: This entry does not mention [livejournal.com profile] kittymichaels winning LJ Idol, and thus might be offensive to cats

There was a line from yesterday’s Green Room that stuck with me ever since I read it, oh, 20 minutes ago or so…
“It is more important that someone be protected from real emotional harm than for my piece to be read in the way it's intended.”

Is it?

I’m in a funny place with this one – because, to make this personal, there is something that I don’t like. I don’t mean “Gary doesn’t like to eat it.” I mean “Gary doesn’t like to see it”/”if someone is eating it near Gary he feels queasy”/”if Gary smells it, he gets sick to his stomach”.

To the point of “even seeing the word makes Gary disturbed”.

It’s a fairly common thing too, and yes, there is “childhood trauma” involved with it. I’m not even going to mention it by name, because I hate writing the word – and no, don’t start guessing. There’s a reason why I’m not naming it.

People who know me – and know what it is, remove it from the table when I’m present.

Those who don’t – well, I try my best to just look in another direction when eating with them. Often I try to put up some sort of barrier, as subtly as I can… Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t – and yes, it’s ended up impacting how to look at people. Even if they didn’t know!

Which is totally unfair. I realize that.

But emotions aren’t always fair.

I’ve gotten better over the years. Mostly because I know that at the end of the day, it’s my issue/burden/whatever. It’s one of my personal albatross, hanging around my neck, like a dead albatross that someone has made into the least functional/attractive necklace ever!

Those with a personal relationship with me – who know – do their best to keep it away from my presence. Those who don’t – don’t. They enjoy their meal, however they feel like enjoying it. When that relationship exists – it’s just them being courteous. The same way I would with them, if I happened to know their particular issues.

What has me so intrigued about this idea is – how does it extend to writing?

I don’t think there is anyone who would purposefully write something that would offend a friend, without giving them some kind of notice. Well, OK, that’s probably naïve, but I’d like to think there aren’t.

Does that extend to a general audience as well? Should you try to figure out if there is anything on your plate that might be disturbing to someone, and apologize for it ahead of time. (or maybe even put a barrier up so they can’t see it?) Or, should you just eat and let them put up their own barriers when they need them?

Personally, I tend to hate disclaimers of any kind before or after a piece. I think they disrupt the flow and the look of the piece, taking me outside of wherever it is that I’m supposed to be going with them… but are those warnings the actions of a friend removing things from the table? Are they (as some have said) just being “Overly PC” in hopes of not offending *anyone* - while not actually changing their content?

And most importantly, why ISN’T there more mentions of [livejournal.com profile] kittymichaels? What are people so afraid of that they have to hide from him?

***

Speaking of important – the poll is still going on! So, get in on the action and actually get out there and read some entries!! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/580582.html

One of the things that I’ve tried this season, that I’ve done before – is “having a life” during Idol. Some of it is circumstantial, and some of it has been, having been burned by it in the past, trying my best to prioritize life.

Which means that I miss things here and there that I would have jumped on before. Actually, I think in the big picture, this has been good. Because it allows people time to work things out on their own, which is (apparently) a highly controversial stance of mine is some parts of the internet. Letting adults work out their own problems with each other – that’s something you don’t see very often. Especially from someone who is viewed as a control freak by some of the same people! ;)

I just think most people have the sense to deal with each other one on one and hash things out. When they don’t, well then I have to step in and be babysitter – usually making everyone unhappy in the process!

It’s because of these things – but mostly because of Tropical Storm Debby which has had my direct attention for the past few days – that I totally missed the discussion in the Work Room.

Most of it, I’m going to gloss over. Some people said things. Other people said other things. People disagreed. That’s fine. Seriously – whatever. Anyone upset about any of it should never, ever, ever read a Yahoo comments section. Consider this your trigger warning! Just don’t do it. You’re going to be upset.

There were a few things that I saw that, little comments, that made me want to respond. I’m going to avoid the “Conservatives and Christians” part, because they aren’t the same thing, never have been the same thing, and never should be the same thing. Two very different things that are sometimes combined. But really it’s a case of “Left Handed Baseball Players”. Sometimes they are both. But one doesn’t equal the other….

(Well, I didn’t avoid that as much as I planned on. But that’s a whole ‘nother spiel!)

The comment that caught my attention was directed at Idol. I’m sure it was meant as “the community as a whole” – and more specifically “this group of people who have gathered for Season 8 and who are still around at this point”. But that’s not what was said. The “competition” was addressed. And as the “Voice of the Competition”, I thought it was worth a response.

The line in question was “Why is this competition so set to protect the deaf and blind, but not someone whose disability is mental? That's what trigger warnings are for, to let those who have mental or emotional reactions know in advance that they might have a reaction”

There have been conversations about trigger warnings in the past. The decision to use them, or not, is entirely in the hands of the person who owns the journal. Some people like the use them. Some don’t. I’m not going to police – LJ IDOL – is not going to police for stating opinions and/or writing about things without covering someone who could potentially be triggered.

We’re just not.

If we were, we’d start with the things that sicken and repulse me. Things that never fail to get a negative, and sometimes stomach churning reaction due to my own personal trauma(s) over the years.

People have had entries and comments about them. Pretty much every season at least one of them has come up. I make a mental note to be a little more careful when I come across that person’s entries in the future. But I still read them, and judge them according to how much I liked the entry itself, while trying to put that personal feeling(s) to the side. (The fact that I vote for everyone means that even when I am personally affected by it, I still vote for that entry. There have been times, over the seasons, when that has been more difficult than others…)

The part of the comment that really got to me though was the implication that IDOL “protects the deaf and blind”.

I can guarantee you – the ONLY group that Idol has ever “protected” have been our “underage” participants, and even then I haven’t had to take action due to their parent’s involvement in keeping them from seeing certain things, and no one deciding to be an asshat toward them.

When our first blind contestant showed up, back in Season 2, my concern was making sure that everything was accessible to her. Once I talked to some people, some tweaks were made and the recommendations on putting alt tags on pictures were added to the FAQ. But that was it. Then I proceeded to beat her like the hippie she is! ;)

I can’t recall a single thing that Idol has ever done to “protect” the deaf from anything. I haven’t even had to adjust anything for them. I guess people adding transcripts to their audio files would help them. But that hasn’t been Idol, that’s been people being thoughtful and decent.

I take exception to the idea of Idol “protecting” a group (or in this case, groups) of people.

Maybe there are some “deaf and blind” people who need some sort of protection in Idol. But I haven’t met them. I imagine those would be “Left Handed Baseball Players”, people who just happen to be both, rather than one being related to the other.

If I do run into them though, I will see what they need, and figure out how to adjust something from a technical standpoint of making sure it’s accessible.

If I run into anyone else who has something else going on, where there’s an accessibility issue, I’ll see what I can do to help them out. Not to “protect” them from anything, or anybody – but rather because I want them to enjoy themselves and be treated like the dirty, smelly, damn foreigner, hippies that they are! ;)

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

I was about to write my own polemic, about how what a horrible group of Idol contestants you batch were! But then, all anyone would have to do to prove me wrong is to click on a link at a random. After the third or fourth one (if they really want to prove that it wasn’t a fluke), they would pretty much be able to dismiss the argument.

If they read all 25 - and they should, come on, it’s only 25 entries! - they would call out that load of BS for that it is!

It’s a great group of entries, from a talented group of people.

A group of people who are about to lose 4 talented members!

Yes, you read that correctly.

They will be executed... or maybe just eliminated. It depends on my mood. ;)

It’s an open poll this week - so please spread the word, and encourage people to come out, read everything, and show some love!

The poll will be closing Thursday, June 28th at8pm EDT.

(correction to deadline date. Thanks Pixie! :D)

Good luck to everyone!

It’s deadline day.

Do you know where your children are?

Have they wandered off again while you were busy writing your entries/reading your favorites? http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/578872.html

You should really just handcuff them into place. It makes it much easier.

We also have the Work Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/579110.html– and the Home Game http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/579956.html (once you finish with both of those)

I’ve spent the weekend dealing with Tropical Storm Debby, which was a whole lot of “not fun”. Technically speaking, we’re still dealing with her – being between the center of the storm and another band of it.

Getting to work was an adventure, especially given the flooding. Hopefully getting home will be less of one, and the power will stay on! (I know people several blocks over who weren’t as lucky!)

I know there are some people who have been chomping at the bit for a Home Game thread. The actual topic thread, for current contestants, is here: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/578872.html

So here it is!

I've been busy hanging out with my new friend Debby all weekend. She's been a bit of a blowhard and has definitely outstayed her welcome!

Heading out the door in a few minutes to go paint shopping. Ah, the wonderful world of home improvement!

But I wanted to make sure to give you all the links you will need today. Don't bother going to click on the "news". These are the ONLY THINGS YOU WILL NEED.

Topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/578872.html
Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/579110.html

and of course the link for those in the Top 25, who want an icon -http://ljidol.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/lji.s8.25.icon_.gif

If you fell asleep early last night, you missed all the action!

Seriously, why did you fall asleep? Those dreams about kola bears could wait a little while longer, don’t you think? Maybe they would have been a little better on their water skies, or at least found a better handler than your ex-landlord!

Those of us who were actually among the awake already know this, but for those who just couldn’t resist their meeting with Morpheus – there were results: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/578560.html (that shocked the pants off of most people! Or at least that’s what they told me when I asked them why they were wandering around the Green Room without any pants!)
and a new Topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/578872.html and a Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/579110.html
There will be a Home Game thread a little later. But for now, that’s what you’ve got!

Since we are now at the TOP 25 – those still in the competition can grab their icon now! http://ljidol.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/lji.s8.25.icon_.gif

The last week has been bad news for friends and people related to friends – so I figured that I’d throw out some GOOD news for an old friend (well, technically it’s her husband, but obviously it impacts both of them).

The first feature that he’s worked on with Pixar is out! It’s called BRAVE.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve heard about it. But I know I’m excited to see it, and I sure Jeremy would appreciate more people going out to see it! So… go see it this weekend! (or as soon as you can!)
