The extra long week is finally done, and we are forced to take a look at what the voter's decided.

If you couldn't tell from the Love Thread that there is a lot of respect for the talent's of everyone in this competition, you certainly could by how close the votes were for the duration of the poll.

It was insanely close at times.

The only one that I *knew* was leaving was [livejournal.com profile] rayaso, who sacrificed. The rest were up in the air.

I had planned on saying goodbye to 5, but there is a tie for that last spot, so it looks like next week will have a return of Redemption Tribe for a head-to-head battle!

I can't say we are "only" saying goodbye to 3 more, because there is no "only" when it comes to these people. They are all awesome and have brought more than a few pleasant surprises this season, for me at least. (and again, from the Love Thread I know that I wasn't alone)

Goodbye to
[livejournal.com profile] oxymoron67

[livejournal.com profile] ellakite

Thank you for coming out this season, it's been a pleasure.

I really hope to see you in the Home Game. (and in the Green Room!)

Yesterday, a man-made probe landed on a comet.

A comet.

This was a huge accomplishment for the European Space Agency and their mission to force comets to be bilingual and accept socialized health care.

***

What huge accomplishment do you want to see next?

What do you want a space agency to land on?

Do you think there will ever be a mission to land on the surface of this week's poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/803824.html

If so, what entries would you suggest that these interstellar explorers check out first?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Public service announcement: A bus is bigger than your car. Unless you are driving a semi or an assault vehicle of some kind, if you attempt to merge into the lane currently occupied by the bus - you are going to lose.

Take this as an analogy for life - or as something that happened to me this morning while riding the bus. (Note: it's the latter. Although messing with people much bigger than you because "you can" probably holds some dangers as well)

The woman who hit the bus was fine. Her side mirror was left hanging - and everyone on the bus was annoyed, but OK.

***

What are people NOT OK with? Missing out on this week's poll! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/803824.html

(Like how I did that? ;) )

So don't do it!!

It's already looking like it's going to be another "close race", so if you want to suggest any entries you think need a little more love - this would be the time to do so!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Maybe the last time you voted things didn't turn out exactly how you wanted - but now is the chance to get it right!

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/803824.html

Consider it an extension of the "Love Threads", but instead of comments - if you love what they are writing, and want to see more of it, give them votes! :)

***

I've been seeing more and more online clashes along gender and racial lines. Is it actually getting "more heated" or am I just hanging out in the wrong places? Should I be playing more Farmville? (or whatever game is popular now)

***

BTW - Happy Veterans Day to those who have served!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

This week I asked our writers to “Bring their A-game” to showcase their talents in an “Open Topic”, which means that they could write whatever they wanted. They will rise, or fall, entirely on those choices.

The events of Week 26 turned LJ IDOL upside down.

What is happening in Week 27 continues that trend, only this time - literally.

The alphabet has been flipped, giving our writers at the backend of the alphabet a chance at being read first.

You might also notice that the Redemption Tribe has been reabsorbed into the main poll. Which should make things a little more interesting as we move to our Top 50.

That’s right. I said - Top 50.

Which means that we are losing FIVE this week.

I said “Bring your A-game”, and I meant it. There are no “Gatekeepers” this week. But it will decide who does, and does not, make it into the Top 50 of LJ IDOL Season 9!

I’d say that’s pretty “high-stakes”.

The poll closes Thursday, Nov 13th at 9pm EST

Good luck to everyone!

The hamster wheel is coming to a stop today and the fun is about to begin!

TODAY is the deadline for your entries to be in: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html

Which means, after having an extended deadline, due to tragic circumstances, most people will hurry up and put something together today. ;)

We've also had a "Love Thread/Q&A" thing going on, divided over the course of the last few days: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802311.html http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802740.html
http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802866.html
http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/803106.html

So make sure to get over there and say something nice.

Looking at the numbers, and knowing about sacrifices I've already been told about as well as those forces that no one can quite predict, we will be hitting Top 50 this week, which is the last time byes can be used, as well as the final chance for the Power of Veto to come into play!

If you survive this week though, the ride is only going to get more interesting from here! :)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Our Love Threads/Q&A comes to an end with the final 14 contestants in the alphabet. the l

But don't let that stop expressing yourself and furthering bonds with your fellow contestants. After all, that was the point of all of this.

The first two blew up like Artie Lange's Twitter feed: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802311.html and http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802740.html
Whereas yesterday's was, in comparison, more like the line to his booking agent: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802866.html

There's still plenty of time to correct that though, go back and make sure to give them more love and attention.

Save some for this thread though as well, because all of the threads have an equal number (well, almost...) of fantastic writers, and people!

***

While you are involved with all of this though, make sure you remember that there is a deadline on Monday.

That's why we are here after all! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
If the GMT-converter that I used was correct, Nathalie's funeral is happening right now.

So if you could take a moment in your day to send some good thoughts out there for her family, this might be a good time to do so.

In Idol, we have a tribute to her going on, if you feel like contributing to it/writing about killing me! (one of her favorite past-times) http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/801771.html

***

Oh, and of course there is an actual topic due on MONDAY: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html
with a Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800648.html

***

In the meantime though, we are using this opportunity to get into the community spirit with a Love/Thread Q&A.

I divided the group 14 contestants at a time.
The first two groups have already been posted: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802311.html and http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802740.html

Feel free to keep showing them love and/or asking them questions to get to know them better!

The third one is today, so jump on in!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Depending on where you live and what your political affiliation is, you are either really upset or really happy right now.

I completely agree with you. (regardless of what your feeling is, I'm just going to give you my blanket agreement. I share your rage/excitement! :D)

Some things that *can* bring people together:

The deadline is next Monday: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html
There is still a Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800648.html

We have a Tribute to [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedluna happening: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/801771.html

(Also, if anyone wants to contribute any words, that would be appropriate, to the power point they will be showing at the service, please let me know ASAP. I was asked to send them to her family)

***

We also have this Love Thread/Q&A thing going. If you have things you want to say about a current contestant or even just have questions because you want to get to know them better, this is the place to do so!

Yesterday, I started with the first 14. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/802311.html (feel free to keep contributing to that)

Today is the next 14.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
My eye is feeling much better today, thanks for asking!

You know what would make it feel even better? If you are in the US, if you went out to vote today! (unless you've done early voting)

Sure, it's not as important as voting for your favorites in Idol, but it's still kind of important. So go out and do it!

If you *don't* live in the United States - don't worry, eventually you will! :)

***

The deadline was pushed back to next Monday. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html

and here is a Work Room to bounce ideas around: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800648.html

There is also a very special Tribute to Luna Home Game happening that I very much hope you take the time to contribute to: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/801771.html (at very least go read them! If there is one thing that brings people together, it's wanting to kill me!)

***

I was thinking about this for the last couple of days - and what I want to do is having a Love Thread/Q&A thing for current Idol contestants. There's no guarantee that everyone will *want* to participate, but who knows... maybe they will.

I will post the name, and then you will respond *to that thread* with anything positive you want to say about them and/or questions that you have for them!

Heck, if it's YOU - tell people something that we might not already know about you!

I've divided them up, so it's 14 a day for the rest of the week! So start with these and there will be more tomorrow! :)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I have something in my eye.

I'm not just saying that because of the horrible news from this weekend: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/801355.html

Or that there was an arrest in what has been confirmed to be a murder of the granddaughter of Shay (not tagging her, but long-time Idol contestants know who I'm talking about)

Or the death of Sammy Jo's brother.

Or the wife of Cynthia's co-worker suffering from depression who jumped off the roof of a hospital.

Or a couple other recent deaths of acquaintances (friends of friends) - all of which occurred with a week or so of the first anniversary of the death of my former mother-in-law (who, for a time during my first marriage, was there for me more than my actual Mom)

No, it's not for those reasons.

I went out to get some aggression out yesterday afternoon and did some tree trimming - and ended up getting something in my eye. Literally.

I've been able to flush most of it out. But either there is still something in there, or something is scratched. Either way, it's really annoying and makes me really glad that I pushed back the poll, because it would be difficult for me to be able to ensure accuracy http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html

The new deadline is NEXT MONDAY, so I fully expect everyone will have enough time to get to the starting line. If you are having trouble, there is a Work Room to bounce ideas in: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800648.html

and while you are waiting, I posted a special Home Game thread. EVERYONE can participate in it: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/801771.html After all, it's about Luna's favorite activity - killing me! How can you *not* want to do that??!

One thing that I have seen a lot of is "I didn't really know her", which makes me sad - not just because I think you've missed out on someone really special, but also because Idol has always been a family, and I think that the more people move away from interacting with each other, the weaker that bond has become between contestants. I think the Exhibits helped strengthen that sense of togetherness in some, but it feels like it's still not what it "should" be... then again, people are going to get the experience they want from this. I can't force you to become friends with everyone else! (well, I can... but that's using my brainwashing powers - and I'm already using them for other purposes in your lives. ;) )

I think this is good opportunity to not only tell people you love them - but to also reach out to folks, tell them how much their work has meant to you, and maybe get to know them a little better in the process.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Yesterday, I wasn't sure what would have made her the happiest to know that people were doing to remember her in Idol.

Last night, I realized what it was.

No, not writing things about her love for her daughter. Giving Sigrid love and support is an ongoing process, not a one-time special.

So I went with something that she LOVED doing. The one thing in Idol that she did more than *anyone else* and never failed to amuse her.

She would do it - and then send me an email to *make sure* that i had seen it.

She loved to put me in her entries - and then kill me.

If you knew her, you know that I'm not exaggerating. It made her positively gleeful to get back at "the Evil Overlord"!

So there you go - that's your "Special Home Game" for this week:

Kill me in an entry!

(For Luna!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
In the wake of the devastating news about [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedluna http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/801355.html

I postponed the deadline until NEXT Monday http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html

I was going to scrap them altogether, but she loved messing with me when it came to deadlines. Canceling one didn't seem to be in her spirit at all.

I did however post a "Special Home Game"/"Luna Tribute" thread with something to keep you occupied and hopefully amused during your extra time. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/801771.html

***
I used to write special goodbyes to everyone who left. She was the only one who got her own special one (as opposed to being grouped with others) during Season 6 http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/367945.html

What was your favorite of her entries?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Yes, you read that correctly.

The Home Game and Killing Floor have merged - with a twist! :)

If you are NOT a current contestant, but want to write something and link it at Idol, this is the place to come. That's the Home Game element. It's a chance to still have your writing out there, as a part of this place.

The Killing Floor is where people go to receive constructive advice on their pieces. So, if you post something here, people are expected to do more than just a "Good job", and instead actually give you something that you can use to make the entry even better.

Mixing them is a move, but I wanted to make a *big* move, so here it is:

IF YOU GIVE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM TO TWO OR MORE PIECES IN THE HG/KF EACH WEEK, YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE ON WHO WILL RECEIVE IMMUNITY IN THE COMPETITION.

That's right. It's not just submitting entries or giving feedback on entries - there's actually *influence over the game* on the line here. :)

***

Since it's "Open Topic" this week for the main competition, that pretty much covers anything you want it to cover! :)

This thread is for HG entries - and feedback to them - only. Everything else should go to the Green or Work Room.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Last night had more action than an Instagram picture of Michael Che cosplaying as Jian Ghomeshi!

There were eliminations: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800008.html
A new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html
A Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800648.html

and today we added a The Home Game (with a twist): http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/801010.html

***

Happy Halloween - what are you dressed up as today?

Also, Happy New Year to the pagans out there! :)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The new topic is up. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html

For those just coming out of Last Chance Idol, it's a familiar feeling of "What do I write now?"

For the rest of you, there hasn't been an Open Topic since (*looks*) Week 13. Which means you've had plenty of time to think of something good.

And, under these circumstances - it had better be! ;)

No pressure or anything - but the group is now completely together. No more additions - only subtractions. One of you *is* going to win this thing.

What are some of the ideas that you have been holding in reserve, just in case - and how are you going to break out of this tight pack to showcase your work, while at the same time, trying to hold yourself together?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
If you missed it, the Spirit of LJ IDOL, for Season 8, was revealed last night: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/588074.html

What you haven't missed, yet, is the poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/587399.html

It's a big poll, with big stakes. Which is what has been keeping the vampires away.

There may be big steaks as well. So let the cook know how you want them.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Wow.

Now THAT was a finish!

If you knew how close things actually were to, well, things exploding, you would have been on the edge of your seat too! ;)

As is though, that didn’t happen. But it was certainly exciting on the bottom, on top and really all the way through “the middle” of the pack!!

In the end though, we are saying goodbye to two contestants.

One of them we knew who it was going to be from the start - she announced her sacrifice as an entry.

The other, if you asked me early this morning, I would have said we were losing her. If you asked me 15 minutes before the poll closed, I would have said, “I have no f-ing idea!” There was quite a bit of well deserved love thrown in that direction.

Being that this is Week 27, I think it’s fair to say that both of them deserve every bit of pride in themselves for making it this far.

Goodbye to our sacrifice - [livejournal.com profile] michikatinski
and to [livejournal.com profile] whirlgig

I don’t think that I need to tell you this, but I hope you hang around and Home Game (and that’s not just because I want more people so I can keep posting those links. :p)

Thank you for helping to make this season special.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
This is the morning of the last day of your life.

Just ask that guy with the butcher knife, standing just behind you, in the shadows. He knows.

But in case you somehow dodge and outrun him – there is still a poll to deal with: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/568274.html

And it’s the last day for that as well.

***

It’s weird, knowing that there isn’t an episode of Survivor tonight! It’s even more strange knowing that we started this when South Pacific was still fairly new, and went through One World!

Will we be here to start the Philippines? ;) (No. Even though it’s the first group of “returning players” who I am actively excited to see. Those three are going to be a lot of fun!)

What do you have planned for your evening – other than poll watching? (and congratulating [livejournal.com profile] pixie117 on her new job/wishing people happy birthday - not sure who, but I'm sure there is someone)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
There is a poll going on - http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/568274.html with a shortened deadline. So anyone waiting around until Thursday to vote – you may have to settle for making your preferences known on what kind of cookie is the best. (Hint – it’s either peanut butter or cardamom)

I’ll admit, this morning has been a little weird and I wasn’t sure what to say (not that it ever stops me!) so instead of the usual banter, I’ll answer two of the common questions that I’ve been seeing in previous Green Rooms:

(1) How much longer is the season going to last?/ there must be something evil coming up?
(2) Where is the Home Game thread?

The second answer first – because that is how I roll: The last two times it’s appeared, I’ve made a comment that if people wanted to see it, they had better use it. There ended up being 5 entries in each of them. Tracing that stat back – there hasn’t been an “over 10 person” Home Game thread so far this season.
As much as I love people playing the Home Game, and I truly do – that’s not even for warrant its own thread.
If you want to show that it does in fact deserve a thread, people need to show me that the interest is there from at least 10 people, hopefully more.
Even when it was showing up every week, there still wasn’t much interest. Has the time for a Home Game to have a thread passed? Is it a season anomaly? I don’t know. I may try it again at some point this season, but not right now – unless there is a favorable response.

The answer to the first question is a little more complicated, because it’s really two questions in one! ;) You sneaky bastards!!

When I announced that next season would be the last, I said that it meant that I could no longer promise that Season 6 would be the longest – because there were now other factors in play. That’s the problem with the “hurry up” crowd, unless they really want Idol to be over forever (and I’m sure there are some who do) when you want mass eliminations – that’s what you are rooting for… I know that’s not what people MEAN when they make comments, but it’s definitely a factor I to be considered. That said, yes, there is evil between now and then. Lots and lots of evil. : )

Evil that is coming for you specifically. Hope you can sleep with your eyes open, because you are going to need to do it if you hope to get out in one piece! *cue sinister music*
