In the dead of night, the Killer(s) have poisoned another contestant!  Who is it? Is it you???

The good news is that [personal profile] flipflop_diva had the most votes this week, which means she will be deciding how to hand out the antidote! Maybe she will be able to save someone...

***

Now for the other news, even though at several points I thought it was going to be a decent-sized tie, in the end there were two contestants who ended up with the fewest votes:

[personal profile] adoptedwriter   and [personal profile] kizzy

The idea that either of them could be going home in Week 2 of any season is absolutely insane to me. But with all of the byes, and the will of the Wheel, that is exactly what is happening!!

I hope you both will be hanging out and Home Gaming, until the Wheel spins in the favor of letting you back in for your revenge!!

***

In better news, there are TWO  Nullifiers that are coming into the game thanks to this week's twist.  Reminder - a Nullifier can negate a twist OR the result from any given week between now and the Top 5. The contestants who received them (it was a tie)   are [personal profile] fausts_dream and [personal profile] used_songs ! Congratulations!

The poll for Week 2 is up:

Make sure you check it out, read some new favorites and of course keep getting the word out!

What sort of Chaos has the Wheel of Life brought into your life THIS week?

On the plus side, the Governor gave all state workers an extra day off. Yay.

On the negative side, that means I'll have one day without work distractions to keep me occupied.

*looks over at the wheel and smiles* Maybe I'll have to find something else to do...  :)

Seriously though, thanks for being here. It really means a lot to me. Especially now.

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
In Traitors/Werewolf/Mafia/Your reference here - when people come together and make this sort of accusation, the person selected is exiled from the community.

I decided not to go that far with this. :)

But also decided to "out" them to the public. Because if they are in fact the Killer, people need to know!!!

I can give you the following information:

There were 13 different suspects receiving votes. 3 of them were 1 vote shy of tying. The rest were 2 votes shy of that mark. Which makes sense. People are gathering information and playing hunches, in hopes of stopping the murder spree in it's infancy.

The group has named [personal profile] roina_arwen  as the prime suspect!

***
We will have to wait and see if there are any more poisonings this week, or if the angry mob of Idolers got it right the first time!

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

On one hand, there are quite a few “byes” this week, which is bad. But on the other, that means there is more time for you to read and enjoy those entries that DID make it in on time!

So make sure to read, comment and vote for your favorites, to keep encouraging them on this journey of sheer terror!

Speaking of sheer terror, [personal profile] erulissedances decided to leave the manor before the vote. Which - one, sad for me that I lose one more person to torture, and bad for the rest of you because I asked the wheel if it would count as one of the eliminated numbers. (Standard Idol policy is that it *would NOT*, however this time the Wheel rules. So I asked)

Which means there are also (spins the wheel, watches as it slows to its final destination) 2 contestants with the fewest votes leaving us this week as well! (Don’t forget, the contestant with the fewest votes WHO IS NOT ELIMINATED will be receiving the Nullifier!

The poll closes Thursday July 3rd at 8pm ET.

Good luck to everyone!

I'm not going into detail right now, but let's just say this has been one of the worst weeks of my life. (so far) Sometimes that's the way the wheel spins.  I will say thought that it started Wednesday night after the poll closed, so I'm really glad I had everything written out and ready to go, otherwise none of those other posts would have been made. Far too much chaos!!  Like I said, sometimes the wheel is like that.

Hope all of you are doing better than that.

The deadline for the prompt is TOMORROW night: therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1186386.html

The
re are quite a few of you who haven't finished yet. So hopefully you are get it ready to post!

***

Oh yeah, the first antidote has been distributed to the person with the most votes, and has been distributed to her choice. I guess we will see in a few weeks if that was correct.

IN THE MEANTIME - I need ALL OF YOU to send me an email clauderainsrm@gmail.com  and make your first accusation on the identity of the Killers. (One name please) If the majority guesses correctly, you out them and end their deadly spree! If not, well, then the killings continue...
The deadline to do this is the same as the entry deadline   Hopefully in the coming weeks I will be a little less stressed and more organized. I apologize for that.

What ELSE are you doing this weekend?

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
It's the second week of The Wheel of Chaos.

I have the master list of unused prompts ready.  The Wheel has told me it is ready to spin.

This week's prompt is

If it’s any consolation

The deadline to link your entries back to this thread is Sunday June 29th at 7pm ET.

Have fun!

 The Wheel has spoken.

The first question was "Twist or No Twist" and the wheel once again landed on TWIST!

Then the wheel went off spinning again to determine which twist it was going to be.

This could be an interesting one to see how it plays out.

The contestant with the FEWEST votes in Week 2, without being eliminated, will be granted the Nullifier

This gives them the power to nullify either an elimination (used within 12 hours of when the poll ends)  OR a twist (used before the poll with that twist ends).

This power is good until the Top 5.

(Note: The Nullifer has no effect on poison or removing Killers from the game)

It came down to a single vote.  Maybe it was yours. Maybe yours was the vote that could have changed the outcome.

There were 2 votes away from turning it into a 3-way tie.  I have to wonder if that is a sign of what this mini season is going to be like... I suspect it is.

He signed up "to be canon fodder" so that other writers didn't have to be voted out first - and sure enough, that's what happened. But there is certainly nothing wrong with what he submitted over the last couple of weeks!

Today is goodbye to [personal profile] vik_thor

Hopefully you will continue to home game. It's always great to see you, and thank you for your continued love for this community!

The poll closes tomorrow night.  Have you been reading?  Have you been voting? (I can say from the number of votes, and checking to see who has/hasn't voted that the majority of you should be saying "Not yet" for that last question.)   therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1144477.html

Every vote is critical to someone's survival. So make sure to get out and support the entries you love! Are there any entries that you don't think are getting enough attention? Now is the perfect time to call them out and stump for them!

Voting is off to a slow start this week. But then again, the posts were the same way.  ;)

If that is any indicator, there will be a rush of votes at the very end!!!

***

I usually watch all of the political conventions - and write commentary on them. But this year, I'm not sure I have it in me. I will say this though from the brief bit I've seen (so far) of the RNC, that the two times that I've seen Brian Wilson he was in his late 70s. He couldn't hit all the notes anymore but surrounded himself with backup singers who could. It was a smart way of doing it for people who wanted the Brian Wilson experience.

No, Brian Wilson wasn't at the RNC (that would have been a huge shock if he had been)

Who was there though was Lee Greenwood, who has managed to make an entire career out of being an one-hit wonder.  (I checked and he had 20 songs that charted, so he doesn't actually qualify as an "one hit wonder",  but come on, we all know him from one song.  :D)

I mentioned Wilson because Greenwood also has lost the vast majority of his vocal fastball. But based on what I saw/heard, he's not acknowledging that.  His voice is still OK, but wow, time is rarely kind to any of us. He may want to consider getting some more backup singers around him for these important/high visibility moments.

Considering the two major candidates for US political office, I'm wondering how Biden is going to top Greenwood.... any non-relevant singers out there in their 90s available?  ;)

***
Note, I say all of this having recently seen Bob Dylan earlier this year!  But at least he was never known for having a great vocal range.  :D
I also saw Pinetop Perkins, who needed assistance getting on and off the stage. But in his case blues artists are SUPPOSED to be really old and weary. It's kind of weird to see young blues singers.  It feels like they haven't quite earned it yet.  ;)

It's official - As of next Monday I will be employed again!

So look for me complaining about how awful my job is posts in about 3 weeks.  :)

Seriously though, I'm pretty excited. It should only minimal impact on Idol, but we will see. I'll just have to keep deadlines in the evenings and on weekends. '

Let's see, what has been going on this weekend... *scans the news* Doesn't look like much of anything.

Just a normal everyday weekend here in the US.

Oh, Richard Simmons died. That was sad... Dr Ruth, Shannon Doherty...

Hmmm... what else...

OH! Yeah, the news that everyone is talking about, the Week 2 poll just went up!   therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1144477.html

That's pretty big news, all around the world!

***

For real though - i am glad that former President is OK. I can't say "this isn't Amercia", because anyone who remembers the 60s, 70s, and into the early 80s knows better than that. But it's certainly not who we ASPIRE to be.

Let's be who we say we are.

A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

Welcome to the Week 2 poll! There were quite a few byes this time, which (1) is going to maek the next couple of weeks more challenging to navigate and (2) means that readers will be able to have more time to read and interact with the entries out there! Hopefully you take advantage of that, because there are a lot of good entries out there to enjoy!

There’s really nothing more that I need to say this week other than - Read. Comment and vote for your favorites! Your votes are the difference between them staying in to entertain you for another week and them going home! So make sure to support what you love, and spread the word about what you are enjoying!

The poll closes Thursday July 18th at 9pm ET. The contestant with the fewest votes will be eliminated.
Good luck to everyone!

The New York Times released their full list of Best Books of the 21st Century list   www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/books/best-books-21st-century.html

and I'm honored to say that 99 of them were my Idol posts!! I'm not sure how these qualify as "books", but I'm just grateful for the acknowledgement. I'm sure they are busy with all of the editorials about advocating for both Trump AND Biden to drop out of the Presidential race.  I'm glad they haven't asked ME to drop out yet.  Probably because I haven't officially thrown my hat in.... because I only have a couple hats and can't really afford to just be throwing them into rings to get stomped on or lost.

Perhaps they are busy writing an editorial to advocate for getting me a new hat that I can then throw in... or maybe a used one that's already beaten up so I wouldn't care if it got damaged. That might be better.

***
I've substituted the Idol posts originally listed with other books in the above link, with other books by up-and-comers that I felt deserved some attention. How many of the 100 have you read? Which ones are now on your "I should check that out!" list based on the descriptions?

***
Remember that your own deadline is coming up soon - Sunday at noon ET. Still a LOT of people haven't posted yet, so this is going to be a busy couple of days!  therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1143356.html

I was asked a question that required some digging into the Idol archives and wow, some of that really hit hard. (and i'm not just talking about the sheer amount of Russian ads that pop up when you go over to LJ!)

There were some stuff that still amused me, and some dramatic parts - but seeing names of people who have since died, that was like a weight free falling from the scaffolding and landing right on me.

Hopefully this special "immunity from death" potion that I'm passing out to everyone works. Unless it's Opposite Day, in which case this mini season is going to be even shorter than expected!

***
The library just let me know that the DVDs for X and Pearl finally came in. I just need to go pick them up. And of course my Google News update for today was about how the star of those movies, Mia Goth, is alleged to have kicked some extra in the head, followed him to the porta potty and told him "“Nobody will believe you because you’re nothing. Get the f- off my set, you big baby.”

Which of course means that I will be filing a lawsuit against her for infringement on my trademark move, and phrase. Sure, she changed "damn hippie" to "big baby", but it's pretty clear that it's just a blatant ripoff and that I'm guaranteed to be living off the judgement and/or settlement money well into retirement.

***
While you are waiting to be kicked in the head by me, hopefully you are being kicked in the head by ideas for this week's prompt: therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1143356.html

I had another interview yesterday that seemed to go pretty well. Who knows though... I've been walking out of most of them feeling good. Maybe I'm just delusional.  :)

How is your week going so far?

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
For those new to Idol (and those who may not remember) for prompts there are some weeks where the the prompt is literally just an interesting word I came across.

This is one of those weeks. Sometimes I will supply you with the definition, sometimes I won't.  This time, I will.

Your jumping off point of inspiration this week is

Sankofa

(definition per https://www.berea.edu/centers/carter-g-woodson-center-for-interracial-education/the-power-of-sankofa
)

"Sankofa is an African word from the Akan tribe in Ghana. The literal translation of the word and the symbol is it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.”"

The deadline to link your entry back to this post is Sunday July 14th at Noon ET.

I've just started listening to audio books.  Yes, I said "just started" as in on my second one, ever.  I just like reading physical books! But it occurred to me that since I listen to podcasts, with the *right* book, I might be able to just listen to it... so I'm trying it out.

What have been some of your favorite AUDIO BOOK experiences?
