Two polls. One writer leaving us from each of them. (ladder system of course, whoever is eliminated in Poll 1 is out before Poll 2 is processed… in other words, before anyone asks I’m making sure it’s understood there are definitely two people leaving.)

Two very different prompts that showcase different sides of each writer, which just makes this all that more interesting as we head toward the finale!

Two writers go head to head. Only one in each eligible match will automatically move forward. (the two byes will of course move forward as well) The others will face the Wheel to determine their fate. The Wheel COULD eliminate all of them. It could eliminate half. One. It could force them into a second round of write offs, honestly, it could really do just about any option you can think of.

The ONLY way to keep your favorites out of the mercy of the Wheel is to Read, Comment and VOTE for your favorites to make it to the next round!

I’ll admit that I was advocating for no one leaving. I’m going to be on vacation this week and didn’t want to watch a poll… but the Wheel said there was an elimination, so… all things must bow to the Wheel!

The poll will be a longer than usual though, because I’m not closing it until I come back. :D

Which means longer to read, comment and vote for your favorites - and more time to get other people to do the same!!

Another Killer has been taken off the board, but not before their deadly mark could be left on the game!

What will happen next? Only the Wheel knows. But it's quiet for now. Because now is the time for the Poll.

People were asking what this twist was, and it’s quite simple. You vote as you normally do. So read, comment and vote for your favorites! Then tell your friends about it! But then ALL of the votes from the previous weeks are counted along with them. It’s a cumulative result.

The idea was that people who do well all season long, and then have a bad week, shouldn’t be eliminated for it. Whereas I’ve always felt, like the NFL that it’s a case of “Any given Sunday”... so I never took that idea down off the shelf, until now. :)

The Wheel is spinning now to let me know how many contestants will be eliminated. The answer is 2!

So the 2 lowest cumulative vote totals will be leaving us this week.

It’s more important than ever to do your thing *points to the above* advice!

The Wheel declared that this week was an intersection, two writers pairing up (one prompt each) to interweave their talents to create something bigger than them both!

(Or in one case, one writer pairing up with herself to do the same!)

There are a number of different ways to handle intersections as far as voting goes, and this one that came up was very specific that the vote totals of the partners were going to be added together. The writers with the fewest number of votes will be eliminated, both of them!

So it’s more important than ever to read, comment and vote for your favorites - and spread the word to tell others to do the same!

This is a great chance for people to be exposed to your partner’s work, and the work of all of the fantastic writers we have assembled here!

Before we get to the good stuff, reading the entries, we have to deal with the bad.

3 contestants ran out of byes and missed the deadline this week. Which means we are saying goodbye to gunwithoutmusic , krispykritter and static_abyss

You will all be missed. But I’m hoping you will Home Game, until the Wheel spins in your direction again and allows you to get back into this beautiful mess!


The poll is rapidly shrinking. But as everyone knows, that could change at any point! (it could also rapidly shrink!!)

The population of our castle keeps shrinking, and the Killer(s) haven’t even claimed their first victim yet! Unfortunately before the poll even opens, we are losing 3 contestants who are out of byes:i0ne impoetry matsushima


That is always an awful way to go out, but it’s even more the case when it comes to Week 3 bye outs, because that means we haven’t even gotten the chance to read anything from them! Hopefully they will consider Home Game-ing until the Wheel offers another shot to get back into the game!

We also have a drop. Per the wheel, this particular drop WILL be counted toward the total of contestants leaving us this week!

Goodbye to used_songs . You will be missed! I hope you are able to make it back in at a later point! And yes, before anyone asks- the Nullifer went out as well.

The Wheel also said that 2 contestants would be leaving this week - which means that there will be *1* contestant leaving (thanks to the drop)

Welcome to the long dark teatime of your soul, a place that will haunt your nightmares and amuse your hopes and dreams until they realize that we know exactly where they are hiding, but they are safe there - Idol isn’t going to take them out (kill!), at least not for now.

No guarantees on later though. For the moment it’s only your nightmares who are in danger. Because I am the only nightmare in your life. All of the others need to cede ground and acknowledge when they are in the presence of a professional!!!

It’s that time in Week 1 where I say a few words and post a poll.

So - here are the words:
One of you will be randomly selected to receive an email. So be checking your Inbox. If you don’t receive one, then the wheel didn’t pick you. For now. Once you receive it, you will have a couple choices to make. Your game may be decided on what you choose, and without any doubt other people’s games definitely will be impacted by it as well.

Nothing quite like a vague sword hanging over everyone’s head to get things started off right!!!

So now, some other words - Thank you to everyone who has come out. It means a lot to me for you to be here. It’s a small group, but it promises to be a fun one, filled with weeks of great writing! Probably even more “cursing my name” sessions, but also great writing!

We aere off to a solid start with Week 1 and I want to encourage everyone, especially those new here to do the 4 important things over the next few days.

Read. Part of the fun of this whole thing is getting to read other people’s work. Do it!!
Comment on their entries. Everyone loves feedback! You like it. I like it. I think it’s fair to say that no one wants their work to just go out into a vacuum. Give them some love!
Vote for your favorites!!! You can cast votes for as many (or few) entries as you want. Yes, for participants you CAN vote for yourself. Honestly, if you’re not vouching for you, why would someone else? But I know people feel differently on the subject, so I’ll just say you can if you want.
Tell other people to do these things. SPREAD THE WORD! That’s the only way this thing keeps going. We’ve kept Idol going for 19 years with just word of mouth, friends telling friends about it! It’s your turn to be the one to tell people about it! They don’t need to participate to read, comment or vote!

All of this said, there will be (spins wheel) 1 contestant leaving us this week! (the options were 1-3)

The contestant with the fewest votes will be sent to the Dungeon of Chaos to rot for the rest of eternity. (or at least until the wheel gives them another shot)

We still have 5 writers left in the competition, due to another tie in the Sudden Death Write Off this week. But if either of those two is in the bottom 3, then they will join the writer with the fewest votes in being eliminated.

Which means - who knows!! Maybe this week will leave us with 4 contestants, but maybe it will leave us with 3!!! That seems fitting for this mini season, where people talk about needing a coin toss to decide on who they will be voting for to advance, because it’s too difficult to pick!
