This season I set myself a goal for attempting to write something about everyone who was eliminated from the competition. They started out being a couple paragraphs and in some cases ended up getting fairly long and detailed (at least in comparison). It was my first time even attempting something like this, and obviously some turned out better than others - and I ended up falling way too far behind. Real life showed up on my doorstep (or rather I showed up on it's) over the past couple of weeks and stopped me from doing the level of work that I had originally planned on doing. But I still want to say something.

So we are back to somewhere between the couple of paragraphs and the longer pieces. I apologize. But it was that or nothing and figured people would rather have the former. If you want more post-season email me and I'll see what I can provide.

Until then though - YOU, the people reading this - tell us what YOUR favorite pieces from them were.

Yet another in the seemingly never-ending struggle to catch up.
As of now I have 24 more to go with an additional 3 that I am checking on periodically to see if they made their entries public again. If not, I will end up saying a few words about them before the end, but obviously it's better if I can point people toward material they might have missed.

The plan was to try to do keep up with the goodbyes. That is obviously out the window.

The plan was to put them out in order. In bunches of 6 or 7 at a time.

That's out the window too! :)
It's a mix and mash. 4 more down. A lot more to go!

Continuing to series of "Gary's attempt to catch up"!

There are a couple people that I have seen, in trying to put things together, who went and made everything friends only. Which I fully understand. But it does make looking back over things, both for a fresh perspective and to trigger my memory, a bit more difficult! :) Obviously I may have to wait a little longer for you guys!!!

For everyone else - I hope you take the time to go back and reread some of these old favorites, and remind yourself exactly why they were, or check out someone who maybe you missed the first time around!

I have *a lot* of goodbyes from the previous weeks to write and post.

I did warn people ahead of time that there were no promises that I would be able to keep them up all season. But having started them, I would like to see the process through. Even if it takes me awhile!

So, I have some backlog and am going to be tackling it the only way that I know how - randomly!!! :)

So here is the first installment. More, at some point. Hopefully soon.

I'll admit, it's a bit embarrassing that I fell so far behind. When I set out to do these from the beginning, I really wanted to keep up. Unfortunately, life doesn't always work out that way.

I've started work on this past week's eliminations and sacrifices. But I wanted to post these (minus the one that I wrote for a certain someone who is now back *in* the game. They have to wait for that now.)

My apologies to the people who were waiting. I hope that everyone takes the time to make sure that you have said goodbye to these folks properly. Sooner or later, everyone will be leaving, except one (who leaves the regular game in a far more serious way actually. . .)

We come to another elimination thread. The worst part of the week.

Some people take the "as long as it's not me" approach, but fail, IMO, to fully realize, that one day it's going to be them. There is only going to be one person walking away without being eliminated, and as the numbers continue to dwindle, the greater the chance becomes that it is going to be you.

This time around we are saying goodbye to:

[livejournal.com profile] genesisdesire - Insert swearing here.

Just my opinion, but you cut out that last aside/paragraph - ending the entry with "The team left me with a busted knee, and little else, but the knowledge that sometimes it's worth nearly destroying yourself when people believe you can't." and you are still in this thing. Like you said, you have proven that you CAN do this, that you are quite good at it. I don't even know why that paragraph was there! Sorry, that's going to bug me for a while. . .

You had an uphill battle in that there were several sports/running entries and any time someone goes for "what is obvious" it's actually more of a risk than people who are all "I'm taking a risk!!!"

You cited the reaction to your fiction a couple weeks ago as a turning point for you, but I think it was the Reprobate entry. It may not have gotten the attention and comments, but I think it really showed you stepping up and realizing the bits and pieces that had been there all along. ("One Touch" was so close to being that, IMO, but I think you over thought it and threw in elements that didn't need to be there.)

and

[livejournal.com profile] majesticarky - From your comments I know that this isn't a surprise. You are wrong though about it being "the lowest vote total ever". Sorry. :) It's an interesting goal though. I guess if you are going out anyway, might as well go out with a record! For someone who thought they were doomed after the Week 3 entry, I'd say going out in Week 11 is pretty darn good. I think you may have been in danger, until Week 5 with your "Bearing False Witness" entry. Yeah, it was on the long side, but I think it gave people a real sense of what you are capable of doing. Something that it doesn't always seem like *you* are all that aware of at times. You find a line or two and can really twist things and come up with your own unique vision. I would have to see you continue to play with that and broaden it out into more of your work and focus a bit more on where you want things to go. You've shown that you can do it.

I also finished the goodbyes for the people from last week. I am *so* sorry that it has taken this long. My sincere apologies.

Thank you to all of you for coming out this season. I really hope to see you in the Home Game thread, and the Green Room!

Here we are again - gathering together to say goodbye to the latest group of eliminated contestants.

It might interest you to know that we are now almost at the point, numbers wise, where Season 5 started. Then again, it might not. But it was interesting to me when I noticed it!

From what I can saw in the new tribes, competition is going to be rather tight for a lot of people.

Unfortunately though, four of our own will not be continuing along the path with us.

As usual, I will come back and say more. But for right now I will just announce them.

[livejournal.com profile] caninespirit: Being that you are someone who has been watching since Season 3, I was hoping that we were going to get the chance to see more of you out on the actual stage!! I hope you continue to have no regrets.
I however have one: Back in your intro post you said that "The hows and the whys shall come later." and we never did get to hear those stories!
Canine Spirit- Wanted For: more.

[livejournal.com profile] bigdoug: Considering everything you have been through over the past couple of weeks, I'm sure this is the least of your concerns.

I am so sorry about the loss of your grandfather. I think there are a lot of people who can relate to your entry, myself included at times. I think the key is to deal with these things in your own time and in your own way.
Thank you for putting together your original tribe. I don't think a lot of people really understand what goes into picking and choosing the people you want to compete against, and what that says about an individual. But I really did appreciate the amount of work you put into it.

[livejournal.com profile] geniusinmaine: It was definitely an interesting experiment to have a different piece of original art for each entry. People always talk about the depth of diversity in Idol and I thought you managed to highlight that by actually coming up with a format that I can't recall anyone actually doing before!

I did see a comment in your latest entry that sort of nailed it for me though - I liked the core of what you were doing, I just wanted to see more of it. I was hoping you would expand and develop things more. At the heart of it all it was a wonderful theme to explore about a horrible event that is far too common.

[livejournal.com profile] themegaloo: There isn't a single contestant that doesn't have something that they can share with you, something that will somehow enrich your life. Personally I enjoyed her entries, but that's not the one thing that is going to stick out in my mind about her.
For me it's about personal connections, and she made one, without even knowing it.
I was reading Idol's "friend of/audience" page a few weeks back and I came across a post from her about a show called "White Collar". It sounded interesting, so I decided to check it out.
She didn't steer me wrong. White Collar has been added to the shows that I spent my "free time" (whatever that is) watching on Hulu! So - thank you, even if you didn't know that anyone else was listening!!

are leaving our ranks today as competitors, but I certainly hope that all of you will be continuing to hang around to socialize, to see how this season continues to develop, and perhaps play the Home Game.
