I'm glad that I actually took the time to read the entries that were submitted before posting a poll. I don't always have the luxury of doing that and have to just scan over them as I'm checking to make sure the link is good and circle back to read.

This time, I had a little more time as I was waiting for the pizza to finish in the oven.

Which means that I saw that https://itsjustc.livejournal.com/534970.html was a sacrifice.

[personal profile] itsjustc  is leaving us, falling on her sword for the greater good (and her Happy Place) - and becoming the final member of the Jury! Thank you so much, for everything. I'm really glad you decided to sign up for Second Chance. You've been gone for far too long. Hopefully we will see you next time!

Which means that [personal profile] sonreir is moving forward, and we have our Top 6!

But you can read her entry at https://sonreir.dreamwidth.org/5610.html - and you really should. I don't usually recommend stuff, but since there is no actual poll, I don't think it hurts to say you are going to enjoy it.

Read the sacrifice as well. Because that's good too! If there had been an actual entry, I know this would have been a shoot out.

It's a Literary Street Fight, and it's only getting more difficult every week.

I said that there would be 3 contestants leaving us, and that announcement (and your votes) have put us in the place for this announcement.

The Jury played its role, selecting someone for immunity. Once again, it came down to a single vote.

They decided to make [personal profile] song_of_thea  safe this week.

Which means that those going home this week (Well, joining the Jury that will help decide the fate of the rest of this season) are:

[personal profile] fausts_dream
and
[personal profile] murielle  (who sacrificed so that others might continue)

Thank you so much to both of you. I say this all the time "thank you for making this season special", but both of you absolutely deserve those words, and much much more.

You notice that is only two names, and I promised three... that is because that immunity threw that third spot into a 4-way tie.

Which means there will be a Sudden Death Write-Off!

Facing off are [personal profile] kimschlotwrites , [personal profile] static_abyss , [personal profile] wolfden and [personal profile] zedmanauk  !

The Topic is, as usual, are Open Topic. (you can write anything you want) and the deadline to link your entries back to the thread I will be starting below, is tomorrow, Jan 29th at 9pm EST.

Have fun!

This week's results have a little bit of everything.

All of it sad, because we are saying goodbye. But it does show you just never can tell.

First we have the elimination.

In Tribe 2 we are saying goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] 04summer_rain04. Our youngest contestant ever.

She made it passed the Top 100 mark for the Season and that is an amazing accomplishment. I hope that she, and her mum, are awfully proud of her and her wonderful imagination. I look forward to seeing how her writing continues to develop.

We also have a couple of sacrifices. This time from the same tribe. So two people end up going to save one. In this case it saved us from an extra run off.

Instead though we are saying goodbye to a newbie who I know really impressed a lot of folks from early on, and a completely amazing veteran.

Goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] sweeny_todd and [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp.

You will be missed.

We also have TWO tie-breakers!

Which means that

Tribe 1's
[livejournal.com profile] attheonesix
[livejournal.com profile] creature_girl08
and
Tribe 3's
[livejournal.com profile] foolishfiddler
[livejournal.com profile] phoenixejc

have until tomorrow, Wed Feb 2nd at 9pm EST to link their entry back here.

The topic: Spin the Wheel
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A storm ripped through the area on my way home today, knocking over quite a bit in it's path.

A different kind of storm ripped through the ranks of LJ Idol over the last couple of days. The storm of "real life" and it's sidekick "real life commitments".

Obviously they are figments of our collective imaginations because everyone knows the only thing worth while is right in front of you on the internet. Why would anyone seek anything more than that???

*shrugs* I don't know. Seems crazy doesn't it?

But because of that, we actually ended up with four sacrifices!

In Tribe 1 we lost [livejournal.com profile] xogenesis, which means that we also lost Tribe 2's [livejournal.com profile] mirrorfortress.

In Tribe 4 it was [livejournal.com profile] edith_jones who took the hit for her tribe.

Tribe 3 was a little more complex.

The player behind the first two alts had a "give immunity to someone else" token. Her final act before going was to give it to "whoever was the lowest in Tribe 3", to give them another chance next week.

Which means the second to last contestant would be leaving instead. Which was a tie.

Normally this would mean a tie-breaker round, but [livejournal.com profile] witchdollie decided to drop, in the poll thread, making it a clean sweep of sacrifices.

Goodbye to all of you. You will be missed in the polls, but hopefully not around here!

I'm sure there are some people breathing a little easier right now, thanks to you. I do hope though that this so-called "real life" thing will die down soon. I'm hoping it's just a fad!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I've got some mixed news.

I'm not even going to pretend that some of it is good and some bad. It's mixed at best.

On one hand, 3 of the 4 tribes this round featured sacrifices. That's what happens when someone makes the decision to drop out during an active poll. It means that they are the only one leaving us from that tribe.

The sacrifices were:

From Tribe 2: [livejournal.com profile] wyrdfishes
From Tribe 3: [livejournal.com profile] stormkitty
and From Tribe 4: [livejournal.com profile] rattsu

Three very talented writers and all around good folks. Which just goes to show, you never can be sure when that real life priorities bug is going to strike.

That leaves one more tribe, where everyone ended up sticking in it until the end. Unfortunately, that also means that the contestant with the lowest votes will be saying goodbye.

In this particular case, that means we are saying goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] anastoff

Thank you so much to all of you for coming out and playing this season. There *are* still "back in the game" tokens out there among the special powers remaining in play. So, perhaps you might be able to get one, or, you never know what opportunities might arise!

I hope to see you all around the Green Room, and hopefully in the Home Game!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Today is one of those days you wish didn't have to happen.

But that is ultimately the nature of the game, you have to say goodbye to people that under normal circumstances you really don't want to lose.

That was going to be the case regardless of who it was that was going home.

But today it is a little more so.

Because today we are saying goodbye to

[livejournal.com profile] alexpgp
and
[livejournal.com profile] zia_narratora

Wait. Did you read that correctly? Shouldn't that be [livejournal.com profile] notbatman???

*nods* It would have been.

But there are the ways of the world and there are the ways of this thing we call LJ Idol - and things do not always work out the way we think they will.

The ways of the world say that sometimes life comes up, and time is short, and sometimes you just have to grab on tight to the things that are most important, and concentrate your attention there.

The ways of Idol say that if someone drops out while a poll is still open, they have sacrificed themselves.

She could have easily waited. But she wanted her leaving the competition to mean something. She wanted to give back, to give someone else a chance to fight on - and the recipient of that generosity was [livejournal.com profile] notbatman.

There is a world of difference between the personal styles of [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp and [livejournal.com profile] zia_narratora, what they most have in common though is the huge impressions they have left on this competition and everyone lucky enough to read them - as both writers and as people. They are going to be greatly missed from this final stretch, but hopefully not from the home game.

Thank you for everything.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
"Let's see what happens"

Oh yes Livejournal. Those were innocent times. Happy go-lucky innocent times.

Now we have to say goodbye to the latest to leave us, and share with you the news of those stepping off the edge into the volcano so that others might be brought back into the game.

It is only proper that first we say goodbye to those of us who have been eliminated. I think anyone who has made it to this point in the competition, and overcome everything to get to this spot deserves to feel proud of themselves. It is quite the accomplishment.

Unfortunately though the nature of the beast is that every week we are going to say goodbye to some people. This week it is 7 people*. (the next knot up would have taken out 12. In other words, it was pretty close. * I was looking back over the spreadsheet and realized that I had missed a tie)

We are saying goodbye to

[livejournal.com profile] adpaz
[livejournal.com profile] belgatherial
[livejournal.com profile] creature_girl08
[livejournal.com profile] dawny_darko
[livejournal.com profile] ellistrae
[livejournal.com profile] in48frames
[livejournal.com profile] lostin_thestars

Thank you. I hope you continue to stick around, and as you know, the sacrifice option is still on the table until tomorrow if you can find someone willing!

(Hopefully I will be able to post proper goodbyes after the sacrifices have been settled.)
***

Speaking of sacrifices, we have some.

Some folks who have decided, most of them due to upcoming RL issues and one in particular due to wanting to give this person another shot and throw the card table over to see what happens - to step out of the game and give their spot to another.

It's an incredible offer from some incredible people. (There are still a couple deals pending, but they have until tomorrow)

[livejournal.com profile] marjory has sacrificed herself to bring back [livejournal.com profile] norda
[livejournal.com profile] drippedonpaper has sacrificed herself to bring back [livejournal.com profile] worldofcharlie
[livejournal.com profile] walkertxkitty has sacrificed herself to bring back [livejournal.com profile] diagenou
[livejournal.com profile] magsscribbles has sacrificed herself to bring back [livejournal.com profile] poppetawoppet

and, hmmm. . . there was one more here. Where did it go?
Oh yeah. Some guy named [livejournal.com profile] joeymichaels is sacrificing himself to bring back [livejournal.com profile] gratefuladdict

edit to add: (because I missed the confirmation) [livejournal.com profile] oberonia sacrifices herself to bring in First Time Idoler [livejournal.com profile] boiconfessed!

The table is overturned and the cards go everywhere, and there is one more day left for sacrifices. (deadline is tomorrow, Sat Feb 20th at 1pm EST)
Let's see what happens next!

Sacrifice

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." - The Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear

There is a contestant only vote going on right now. At this moment some of you are checking over your lists and sending to me, and some of you have already done so and are waiting for me to tell you the results. A little under 24 hours is what is between you and knowing your fate.

Unless I put it in your hands.

***

A little back story. Last season I introduced a new special power called "Sacrifice". It's pretty straight forward. The couple of contestants at top with the most votes and the couple at the bottom with the least votes were given a chance to make Idol history. They could step aside, and give up their spot for someone else.

After all, people are always saying "So and so shouldn't have left!! I want them back in!" So I gave these individuals the chance to do something about it.

Only one of them took me up on it and used the power, [livejournal.com profile] tigrkittn, who in one move went from someone who was well liked to a legend in the game. That one move brought back [livejournal.com profile] abbismom who ended up being in the finals. One little move, that changed the course of the game.

During the deliberations, the one thing I heard over and over again from everyone else was what *they* would do with that power. Some people said there was no way they would ever step down, for anyone. Some said it wasn't a question, they would do it in a heart beat.

So last August/early September, when I was planning out Season 6 I decided 3 things were happening in Week 14. There would be a fake out for intersections. There would be a Contestant Only vote - and there would be one last move before we got to Week 15 - there would be a Sacrifice.

After all, this would be the time in the game when some people would be getting frustrated thinking that they couldn't break through into the top whatever. This would be the time that they would be questioning.

I didn't know how many players would be signing up, or who they would be. But I knew this would most likely be that point, and this was where the Sacrifice would have the most impact as a potential game changer.

***

Not just any Sacrifice though.

I would put it on the table for everyone - Not just certain contestants. Any contestant can choose to use it.

In theory, we could completely knock the board onto the floor and set things up on an entirely new game.

If you think "this is my week to go, there is no way I am surviving this Contestant Only poll", you can use this as a chance to step away on your own terms.

The problem of course is that no one entirely *knows* if they truly are leaving, and if you were slated to go there *still* will be someone else eliminated in your spot.

Regardless of your reason for deciding to use this power, and bringing a player (back) into the Game, you will be giving up your spot. Your votes will still stand (since the new player would not enter officially until Week 15)

This offer is on the table until Saturday Feb 20th at 1pm EST. Between now and the poll it will, of course, be blind. You will have no idea if you are stepping away from first place or last. If you are saving yourself from being eliminated, or giving up the chance to win it all.

Then the poll will close and we will have eliminate the 8 or so contestants. The time between then and the deadline to make a decision will include those eliminated in the contestant only vote.

If you decide to use the power of Sacrifice, you must pick someone to take your place, and they (of course) must accept. It can be a previously eliminated contestant from this season, it can be someone playing the Home Game, it can be a spectator who might not have had the chance to do either *yet*. The only restrictions are: it can not be a previous Season Winner, it can not be anyone who served as a Gate Keeper this season, and of course it can't be anyone who has been banned from the community (for obvious reasons! :D)

Contact me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com or through LJ if you decide to use this power. But think long and hard before pulling this particular trigger.

Everyone wants someone to have a second chance. But what price will they pay to make it happen?

Put your hand inside the box. Let's see what happens.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The polls are closed, and once again it is time to say goodbye.

[livejournal.com profile] justkimu dropped out during the poll, sacrificing herself in the Oldscratchx's Sexual Tribe. Which means that no one else is that tribe will be eliminated.

It was apparently a bad day for the divas, and we are saying farewell to

[livejournal.com profile] photodiva02: A multiple time Tribal Leader. Which is a rarity. But it's also meant that I've gotten a chance to interact more than I have some of the others. You can tell a lot about a person from who they select to compete against. Some go for the sure thing whereas others go for the challenge, or just plain people that they like. I think it's a safe bet, looking over her tribe selections, that she wasn't one for taking the easy way out.

For me, your entries always seemed to be right on the edge of discovering something, of taking the little things in life and figuring them out on a larger canvas. I would have really liked to see how it was going to develop.

and

[livejournal.com profile] foxdiva9 : From what I've seen over the last few weeks, you tend to pack a lot of wallop into bite sized entries. Your Week 4 entry was actually one where I took a step back and figured that it was going to put you on a lot of people's radars. Week 5 was a good follow up as well. This week was more of a sleeper. But I'll be frank, I wasn't expecting to be saying goodbye to you this time around. I figured there was more time for you to find a bigger audience, or for them to find you.

Thank you to both of you for competing this season.

I really hope that you stick around, and maybe play the Home Game, because you can never be sure what is going to happen next.

***

We also have a tie. Which means a run off between [livejournal.com profile] canadian_diva and [livejournal.com profile] diagenou.

The run off topic is (of course) Making Fire. You have until Wed Dec 9th at 9pm EST to link your entries back to this thread.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
As of the last vote -

I'm suspending it until next elimination. We will be adding *one* spot to it.

But what you may ask happens to that special power that would be given to the person with the most votes and the person with the last - I'm giving it ALL OF THEM.

Why? Because as I said when I announced it this is a very special power.

It is the first time it has ever been used in Idol. . . but it was something that people have asked - in some cases *begged* me to implement.

[livejournal.com profile] rm won the most votes hands down. So she gets it.

and the tie for least votes was between:

[livejournal.com profile] az_starshine
[livejournal.com profile] baxaphobia
[livejournal.com profile] hideforshame
[livejournal.com profile] kathrynrose
[livejournal.com profile] tigrkittn

So congratulations to all of you.

How many times have you read "NOT SO AND SO!!!!' during elimination times?
Constantly, and the people saying it always mean it too because the attachments between contestants in the trenches together become so strong.

How many times of "I wish that had been me instead of you" - not as many but still quite a few. I've gotten emails over the past few seasons asking me if they could give someone else their spot. . . and I've had to tell them no. Because that just wasn't how things worked.

This power is very straight forward (and yes, someone did actually impress me by calling it a couple days ago!)

You get the power to each bring back *1* contestant who was eliminated from this season.
There it is, pretty simple right. You think someone shouldn't have been eliminated - you bring them back.

Ah, but there's always a catch. It wouldn't be a proper Idol special power if it didn't. The power is called Sacrifice and it is just that.

You have the option to bring in a player who has been previously eliminated - but they are taking your spot. It's a switcheroo elimination style. . .

If you feel strongly enough to want to bring someone back - you can. If you don't,I really doubt that anyone is going to hold it against you for wanting to keep your spot in the game.

But for the six of you - for the first time in Idol history - that decision is now yours.

Email me your decision by tomorrow, Feb 3rd at 7pm EST. My email address, in case you don't have it handy, is clauderainsrm@gmail.com
