A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

Here we are, at the Finale. When we started this at the end of June I just needed to do *something* to get me out of the funk. In a lot of ways, that was a success, it was a success. Of course, starting the mini season meant that I would be getting a new job and starting just as we were getting our legs under us here! :) Because there is nothing that attracts big life changes more than already having taken on a new time commitment! I should have started Idol months before, then I could have had a new job sooner too!

It’s been 6 months, which honestly, yeah for Idol that’s still a mini season! Those of you who came in more recent years never had to survive ones that lasted over a year!

Anyway, we’ve been doing this for 6 months and we have our final three, making their cases for why they should win, and doing the same for their opponents. It’s the Idol standard, supporting each other to the very last vote!

It’s now out of their hands, and in YOURS. The voters are going to decide who gets to wear the metaphorical crown. 3 remarkable writers are asking for your support! So read, comment and vote for your favorites!

The poll closes in the new year - Wednesday Jan 1st at 8pm ET.

Good luck to everyone!

A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

Last January, we launched an experiment - a mini season that focused around the idea of people not being immediately eliminated but instead had 3 strikes.

Two members of the final 3 actually got here without a single strike against them. One rode out that final strike for a long time. Both of those are huge accomplishments.

It was less than a month later that my work life went into pure chaos. If I had known it was coming, I would have never started this. But I’m glad that I did.

At the end of this month, my team will be back to being fully staffed since July of 2021! I’m really excited. Hopefully that will mean life will get better.

Their final work showcases why they are here, the finale. 3 distinct writers telling their stories.

It’s up to YOU, the voters, to decide who is going to ultimately become the winner.

Read. Comment. Vote for your favorite.

The poll closes Sunday, December 11th at 9pm ET.

Good luck to everyone!

A few words from Gary:

This is definitely going to be an interesting finale.

3 talented writers who all submitted perfect representations of just how good they are.

Something that I personally found interesting was that this is the first time in Idol Mini Season history that the writers in the finale didn’t use “Open Topic” as an excuse to write the traditional Idol finale of “why I should win/why my opponent should win”.

I’m going to interpret that as people finally listening to me! :)

This is also the first finale where I’ve started it on muscle relaxers!

I did something to my lumbar region - sudden sharp pains aren’t fun. It’s why I was out of commission this weekend. I spent most of the morning today at the doctor’s office and then going for a X-Ray. The fun never stops. But thanks to the miracle of muscle relaxers I’m mostly here for the finale! :)

And what a finale it is!

I sincerely love the work all three of these folks have produced for Literary Prize Fight!

I’m really happy to have them representing the competition at this level.

They took different paths to get here. But all are worthy of the crown. Note: there is no actual crown.

Only one is going to take it though.

That is up to YOU, the voter, to decide!

The poll will be open until Thursday May 2nd at 9pm EDT.

So read, comment and vote for your favorites!

This one is for all the marbles. Note; there are no marbles being given out. This time around I wasn’t even able to get an icon made. The prize went to the Top 4. So everyone in it right now already has that.

This is all about the glory, and being the last writer standing!

Good luck to everyone!

Wow.

Let me look at that again.

Wow.

196 people came out to vote this week.

I saw some *old* friends in those numbers. It's always nice to know that people are paying attention even when they aren't active in the community.

Every time people say that LJ is dead, look at what can happen if you just push a little to get them to come out! :)

This was a back and forth struggle between two Titans of LJ Idol that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time!

In the end though, by a narrow margin - our second place finisher was the always fantastic [livejournal.com profile] gratefuladdict, who has managed to do this "going to the finals" thing two times. Which is, by the way, the first time that's been done!

Our winner is the first male to ever take home the crown on his own - the one, the only [livejournal.com profile] prog_schlock!!!

You did [livejournal.com profile] kittymichaels proud. He would have been really happy to see this. (Well, he would have won. But maybe he would have made you think you had something to do with it)

Congratulations to both of you!

Congratulations as well to everyone who came out for this mini season and left it all on the field. Thank you for your continued love and support!

Dreslinski out.

Every season is different. There are different people, in different combinations and if I were to map out how each of them were going to go, I would fail at it every time.

This season's theme was modeled after the Muppet Show, a crazy cast of characters all doing their own thing, with a frantic frog trying his best to make it work as a coherent show.

I think the Muppets may have been based on real life LJ Idol events. :)

The season itself certainly fulfilled that theme. It was long, it was difficult at times, but I hope, at the end of the day, that it was fun.

The poll is now closed and the votes have been examined. Which means that it's now time to make the official announcements:

In third place we have one of this season's biggest cheerleaders and (I hope) someone who is going to be around to help push this competition into the future. It's kind of fitting that someone like her would finish in the same spot that [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedluna did in *her* first season.

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] bleodswean

In second place, I will come right out and call her this season's powerhouse. Because that's what she is - and I have a feeling that she will continue the proud tradition of Second Place finishers like [livejournal.com profile] notodette in knocking things out of the park for a long time to come.

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] gratefuladdict

In first place... well, that could only be one person now couldn't it?

She first showed up in Idol during Season 4 and ended up taking a far too long sabbatical from us, and writing on a regular basis. Now she has become the second veteran to win, as well as being a genuine, all-around kind person and talented writer! None of those are easy to obtain.

Congratulations to our Winner, Your LJ IDOL for Season 9- [livejournal.com profile] suesniffsglue!!!

Thank you to all of our finalists and to all of you who participated in making this season so very special.

I hope that you know how much I truly appreciate your continued support.

LJ Idol will return for a mini-season and a Season 10, but for now...

Dreslinski out!

When I started the Exhibits, I knew that they were going to be something different from a standard Idol season. In the words of Big Brother, I figured that I would be "expecting the unexpected". That was true in Exhibit A where someone amazing showed up from Idol's past and literally just "did her own thing".

With Exhibit B, knowing the twists and turns that I was throwing at people - I wasn't sure how things were going to go. But I knew that I could count on not being able to predict it! True enough, that certainly was the case.

There are two "Idol firsts" in this finale.

We have a tie... which ISN'T the first time that it's happened. (See: Season 2) But what is a first is that there is no run-off, I declared that I would honor the voters. If THEY decided that they wanted two winners, that is what would happen.

There were moments when I wondered if it was going to occur... or if someone would pull a trigger in the last few minutes and put one of them over the top. It almost happened. But then the counter-balance came and evened everything back up again!

The Exhibits were set up as a fundraiser for my engagement. I can't think of a more perfect ending to something about two people coming together than to have two winners!!

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim and [livejournal.com profile] the_lettersea: Winners of LJ IDOL: EXHIBIT B!!

Which, yes, that's the second "first"... a guy has "broken the glass ceiling" of Idol for the very first time!!!

Two amazing writers, and one amazing ending to the mini-season!!

Pop the corks and get out there on the dance floor to celebrate!

Dreslinski out.

And then there were two.

We’ve gone a long way, now officially the longest duration that any Idol contestant has ever faced. We’ve overcome a lot. Laughed. Cried. Grown. And most importantly, people wrote their ass off!

Now there is just one more hurdle.

Oddly enough, both of these women were chosen by several Gatekeepers (during the first round, months ago) as someone they expected to see in the finals.

Now, it’s here.

And anyone who follows Idol knows what that means. It’s the easiest, and the trickest topic of them all. Because you are not only making the case for yourself, more importantly, you are making the case for your opponent!

Why I Should Win LJ Idol/Why My Opponent Should Win

One entry. One last shot to plead your case, and make the case for someone that you have made this incredible trip with... make it good!

You have until Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 28th at 9pm EDT to link your entry back to this spot.

Congratulations to you both. Now get to writing!

Have fun!

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:
If you talk to me one on one about Idol long enough, there is one phrase that tends to pop up. That Idol is going to give me the winner I need not necessarily who I might think would be the "likely choice". Every season I start out with the hope that the trend is going to continue. Every season my faith is proven justified.

Reading the final arguments from these three, and seeing how they have been over the duration of the season - I can say that Idol has once again given me a situation where any outcome is going to be marvelous.

It's just a matter of what the voters decide is coming out on top this time. Regardless of who it is, it will be a new kind of Idol Winner, breaking the mold that has been cast over the past 6 seasons.

That's pretty exciting.

One more click of the buttons. That is all we have of Season 7.

the poll closes at Wednesday, July 20th, at 8 pm EDT. The contestant with the greatest vote total will be named our next LJ Idol.

Good luck to everyone.

All 8 Second Chance Idolers showed up this week.

I was wondering if that would happen or not. But they did. . .

Just in time for them ALL TO BE ELIMINATED.

That's right. None of them are in SCI anymore.

Why?

Because by showing up in the Final Week, when it was all on the line, by throwing that last hail mary - they earned a spot in the game.

Congratulations. :)

If you want to read their entries (and I suggest that you do, they are in the main competition now after all) you can find them at http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/427561.html

They are in as of Week 14. In other words, as soon as I post the new topic. No rest for the wicked. Or for the former members of SCI for that matter!

Thank you to everyone who made SCI so successful!
