I caused this result. It was a comedy of errors that all ended with us in this situation.

vik_thor submitted his entry after the poll went up. He was charged with a bye because it wasn't there when I hit "post"... within a minute of me doing that though I got the notification that his entry was up.

So I went to add it at the bottom of the post. He still had a bye, because it wasn't in before I posted the poll. But I wanted people to have the chance to read it. The problem came because I accidentally overwrote the rest of the poll when I posted that link and didn't notice until people started pointing it out.

At that point, I assembled the NEW poll, and since he was in time for that, I added his entry.

And he ended up with the lowest amount of votes. Did people not vote for him because he was late? I know there are people who do that. Were there other factors? I honestly don't know.

What I DO know is that if that original poll had stayed up, without me trying to do something nice, he wouldn't be going home...

So he isn't going to be going home and will be charged with a bye instead. (as the original poll stated)

I don't want someone to be eliminated for me causing a technical difficulty. Nor would it be fair to skip over him (like he was a bye) and eliminate the next person. No one is going home this week. Congratulations! You made it to Week 2.

There is an important lesson for me here - never try to be nice. ;)

I feel like I'm constantly confused by what brings votes in. I've used this username most recently though so I don't think I can blame it on that like you can (although there are probably people playing this time who still only know/remember me as comedychick, which is why I updated my user icon!)

It's an interesting question. For me, when I did recognize past names, I was excited to see what they had written this time around. On the other side though, new names were also cool because I had no idea at all what to expect. Maybe a draw?

I am slightly picky on it, as I originally did the 'legal' name change on the basis of I had been spelling it Vik-Thor everywhere possible for well over a decade. (In fact, I was spelling it that way in high school, so over 40 years at this point.)

And it is surprising that even now, some systems have problems with a hyphenated first name

Whether it's a cooking competition show or otherwise, I've always felt that the first challenge should have no eliminations before we've really seen what everyone is bringing to the table and people are able to get into the swing of things. I'm happy with this result!

While in general I agree with this, I do watch a LOT of cooking competition shows; there’s typically two challenges per episode before a contestant is eliminated, and unless it’s a brand new show, I’d say most contestants are familiar enough with prior seasons that they know in general what they are getting into, although I imagine it’s often harder than expected when there’s bright lights and numerous cameramen scurrying around.

My favorite cooking comp is Tournament of Champions. The entire premise with completely blind judging and use of The Randomizer makes it really fair and fun!

I debated that, and where I landed was that the poll itself happened. But as it was when originally posted. So if you used your bye, that still counted. (as vik-thor did)
