This is more for my own records than anything else. But I think it's also important for folks to get the full brunt of the history they are dealing with.

I have an updated count on the number of entries that have been created for Idol.

Pieces of writing that only exist because Idol exists.

The count stands at 22,787.

Let's see how many we can add to that in this mini season!

We have also been home to 995 contestants over the years.

So if you know someone who would be the perfect 1,000th addition to our family, this is a great time to invite them!

20,000

Sit down and write 20,000 stories.  Right now.

Just do it.

How about 20,000 poems?

20,000 non-fiction pieces?

Make sure they are good enough to share in public and then submit them to a forum where folks can vote on what they like the best.

Go ahead. You can mix-and-match, they can be any combination of those things.

That's going to take you some time to complete. Don't worry, I'll wait right here until you are back.

LJ IDOL just did this.

20,000 entries have been created - have been released into the world as a result of Idol. Would they have happened anyway? Maybe. Maybe not. (I know a lot of them probably would not have been) But they didn't.

I wasn't originally thinking there would be a Week 0, so I told people to expect us to hit this mark in Week 1. But when I pushed back the sign-up deadline, I wanted something else for folks to do. But the "we will hit that!!!" never entered my mind.

Who got to be the official 20,000th entry?

That would be this one: http://voidandblank.livejournal.com/1169.html   from [livejournal.com profile] voidandblank.

Congratulations, to us all!

And here's to working on 20,000 more!

If you haven't seen it, the Sign-Up Sheet is up!  http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/861191.html
So, if you want to take part in the LJ IDOL: Friends and Rivals mini-season, you should get over there and sign up!

Looking at my stat sheet, there are 30 spots filled right now. Which means that after a few hours of being up, there are 70 spots remaining!

(A few of those spots are unfilled +1s)

7 of those people, so far, have actually completed all three steps! Thanks to those people! The rest of you, get on it!! :)

***

So far everyone has remembered this - but for those who don't know, if you are playing under another name (or have more than one LJ account - please let me know! Even if you think I already know, make sure I know! :D)

***

I just went back to the "entry count" and added that last week of the special kid's season - which means we are at 19,988 entries.   Which means we are *12 entries away* from having generated 20,000 pieces of new content!   It will be interesting to see who gets to post the 20,000th entry during Week 1!!! :D
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Now I know how it feels to be one of the "Idol wannabes". This is the amount of traffic they tend to have! :)

I've got to say, it does end up getting to you.

The one good thing is that I also know that this is a really special event, and I hope that those of you who are taking the time to be here have been enjoying it.

I know that I've probably smiled more at the entries than I have in awhile. :D

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/857803.html is where the main entries, from the kids are and the Home Game is happening at http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/857237.html

For those counting at home - the current entry count is 19,979! Which means only 21 more entries until we hit 20,000!!

How has this week been treating you? Anyone else following the Stanley Cup playoffs? It's pretty big in our house. Mostly because the Lightning are playing for the Cup!

Is anyone out there excited for a mini-season in a few months?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
We are halfway through our first season of Idol Minor!

I hope everyone is having fun - and letting other people know about what's going on here. Sure, it's taking place in Idol proper. But that doesn't always mean folks are paying attention.

I think our young talent have a lot to be proud of with their creations and I'd love more people to see them!

Remember to vote for your favorites: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/856084.html

Entry count: 19,968. 32 entries to go until we hit 20,000! I'm not sure it will happen during Idol Minor, but it definitely will during the mini-season.

***

What did you do during your extended weekend?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
There is a poll up with all the new entries: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/854356.html

I was really impressed with the entries, and I hope everyone checking them out will be as well.

When I was typing Celena's for her (from her printed version) I told her "I'm going to type this exactly as you wrote it - including spacing and any spelling mistakes". She asked me why I would do that. It was what she wrote, as she wrote it. That's important.

Granted, she's 11. If she were younger, I would probably do a few edits. ;)

Also - that's just me! I have things going on in my head that other people don't.

It did get me curious though, where other people's heads are at with the editing. Obviously, this isn't like we're dealing with adults. Should I be "cleaning up" her work? (she certainly thinks I should be! :D) Should I not?

Where is that cut-off?

Heck, many "regular Idol" contestants have beta-readers who "clean up" their work! So is there really that big of a difference? Am I just being too difficult and need to relax a bit about it? ;)

***

I've had people ask me if these entries are "counting toward the Entries Written For Idol" total. Of course they are.

Current count: 19,958. 42 entries until we hit 20,000!! With enough Home Gaming over the next couple of weeks, we *could* hit it during Idol Minor!

***

Also:

HELLO LITTLE PIG. I LOVE YOU.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's an "Open Topic" week - so when better to have a Home Game thread?!

Have fun, and link your entries back to this thread when you are done!

(For those playing along with the Entry Count: It's now at 19,940. 60 more entries to go in order to hit 20,000!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Our topic this week is "Wolf Ticket".

So if you want to play along at Home, just write an entry and link it here!!

Entry count update: 19,924 (76 entries to go until we hit 20,000!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
If you have ever thought "Hey, I should Home Game for LJ Idol!" - this is the perfect time!

Why?

Because we are near the end of the season, and our current "Entries created for LJ Idol" stands at 19,915 - only 85 entries to go until we are celebrating our 20,000th!!

So get in on the action!

This week's topic is Gambler's Fallacy

Just link your entry here!

One day to go.

Do you know where your Champion is? http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/838956.html

If you had to select a Champion, someone to stand for you, in Real Life - who would it be and why?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Perhaps we should start doing this in the early weeks of Idol instead of having "byes": http://www.freep.com/story/life/2015/01/20/birthday-party-show-fee/22040807/

Seriously though - sending a bill for a kid not showing up to a birthday party seems a good way of never having kids want to show up to your parties again! Unless of course, the parent is trying to stop having to organize them in the future and/or kill their child's social life in general. In which case - well played!!

Speaking of "Well Played", there was somethings that happened last night that you may have missed:

Results from Week 33: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/826108.html
The new Topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/826357.html
The new Quick Fire: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/826465.html
and, of course, the new Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/826776.html

Congratulations to *THE TOP 15*!

Only 5 contestants remaining until we have the Top 10. Your odds of making it to that point are good... or are they? *insert cackling here*
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
People have been upset about all of the recent eliminations - and to show that we *have heard you*, we have taken this information to a grand jury. I am confident that they will give a fair hearing to see if charges should be brought against me.

Stay tuned.

Oh wait... they're back already?

No charges are going to be filed. Sorry guys, better luck next time!

***

As for the things that will directly impact your life in the coming days - there is a lot going on here at LJ Idol! Which - does anything more directly impact your life than that? Nope. Those "family" and "friends" are distracting you from what is truly important - fear of being eliminated!!!

The topic is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/811500.html with a twist. So make sure you read it.

Part of that twist involves the Home Game/Killing Floor: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/811580.html

None of the twist involves the Work Room, but it's always a good place to stick your head in and see what is going through other people's minds at the moment when it comes to writing and general process: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/811782.html

Look for some site adjustments over the next week. Nothing dramatic, just a few cool new toys. Our Friendly Neighborhood LJ Overlords are in the building, so look presentable! :)

(Note: actually everyone that I've dealt with so far from LJ and SUP have been really nice and helpful. But I can't let a good "LJ Overlords" opportunity go to waste!)

As of Week 29, the entry count is 19,686. Getting closer...

"By the Numbers" - because I know there are definitely some folks here that enjoy an assortment of facts:

I've tried something a little different the last couple weeks when it comes to voting. I've been trying to raise some awareness of the fantastic writing that is happening here.

The first week I tried advertising through Livejournal itself. Virtually no response and there isn't really a report to measure the numbers.

So the following week(s) I've gone with Facebook, to see what the difference was.

Per Facebook, the voting post reached the "eyes" of 1,244 people. I use quotes because that just means that they scrolled past it while they were on their phone or computer. Of those people, *26* of them clicked through to the link.

Of those, 3 of them are now following LJ Idol on FB.

How many of them actually voted? There were a total of *6* votes from Facebook, and most of those were names that I'd seen before. (Note: none of the "new followers" actually voted)

(Note: There were also 2 votes from Google+ and 2 votes from Twitter - in other words, there were 10 votes cast from non-LJ accounts. Out of 137!)

I know that building up a name is something that happens slowly and through repetition. But when I saw that icon on poll say that it had been shared on FB "69 times", I was expecting a bigger bang than that! (It went from 11 normally, to 47 to 69 in the weeks where there has been advertising, which means that the LJ "FB shares" thing might be adding some numbers to the count based on FB's repostings)

The good news in all of that - there seems to be only 2 people (and the second one is a "maybe") who "double voted" (used more than one account), and it didn't impact anything. That's always a concern, which is why I keep an eye on it. (I'll be talking to them later, I'm sure it was an oversight)

Ultimately, what this means is the best form of promotion is still word of mouth. If you love what you are seeing here: TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT. Get them to show up and get to read, and support, some really talented new writers!

(Sure, they might originally come just to support you, but if they are reading, they are bound to find some other great folks as well!)

***

More numbers, because of the tie, we are now at 51 contestants. So we're hanging on the edge of that Top 50.

Which means this week is *the* last time to use your byes and the last chance for the Power of Veto to be used.

There appear to be 11 people remaining who still have one to use, and one person with two!

***

Just went through and updated the "approximate number of LJ Idol entries" figure. These are entries that were created for LJ Idol: 19,639. Not bad. I wonder who is going to end up writing #20,000???
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I just spoke to some friends at the CDC in Atlanta, and they let me know that they were looking for a place to house a couple unexpected guests.

So I volunteered Idol.

I'm sure these are really nice people, and that you will get along great! So feel free to mingle. Make out. Maybe do a blood transfusion or two with them. Whatever it takes!

Everything is fine. I'm sure that everything will be fine.

I'll just be over here, with the poll, reading to cross out a few more names!

***

Speaking of - there is a poll going on right now: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/766648.html and it closes tonight, so make sure to get out there and keep your favorites in the running!

***

That said, I'm going back into the depths of my project... oh, I mean *working*... yep, totally working right now. :)
