Green Room - Week 2 - Day 2

 I was asked a question that required some digging into the Idol archives and wow, some of that really hit hard. (and i'm not just talking about the sheer amount of Russian ads that pop up when you go over to LJ!) 

There were some stuff that still amused me, and some dramatic parts - but seeing names of people who have since died, that was like a weight free falling from the scaffolding and landing right on me. 

Hopefully this special "immunity from death" potion that I'm passing out to everyone works. Unless it's Opposite Day, in which case this mini season is going to be even shorter than expected!

The library just let me know that the DVDs for X and Pearl finally came in. I just need to go pick them up. And of course my Google News update for today was about how the star of those movies, Mia Goth, is alleged to have kicked some extra in the head, followed him to the porta potty and told him "“Nobody will believe you because you’re nothing. Get the f- off my set, you big baby.”

Which of course means that I will be filing a lawsuit against her for infringement on my trademark move, and phrase. Sure, she changed "damn hippie" to "big baby", but it's pretty clear that it's just a blatant ripoff and that I'm guaranteed to be living off the judgement and/or settlement money well into retirement.

I’ve had a few moments recently where I think about an old Idoler and then remember that they’re gone. It’s heartbreaking to think about who we have lost over the years.

Now I have two ideas for this week and they’re both fighting inside my head right now. I have a lot going on before the deadline so it may mean I sit down last minute to write and hopefully one of them sticks. I had some time today but I didn’t get much sleep tonight and need a new coffee maker, so I ended up just napping instead. I may try to write once I’ve woken up a bit more but I really need coffee.

There used to be a coffee shop that actually sold good coffee (no comment on most of the coffee you can get here), but they closed at the end of June. Ugh. So I can’t even go out and get one.

IKR? Not just Idolers but also LJers who didn't do Idol. I remember years ago there was a flurry on my FL about someone on my F/F list who was also friends with a lot of people on my list as to why this person hadn't responded in X time, it was so unusual, something must've happened, does anyone know her RL name/address? Someone actually got hold of a sibling, and it turned out that the person passed in their sleep without any preexisting conditions or such.

Luna's passing, I think, was the most devastating in recent memory because it was so sudden. Her daughter is in her teens now :faints: I could also say Kate's but she had been unwell for awhile beforehand. Not that her passing was any easier. I still use one of her passwords for one of my accounts, LOL!

I lost a few non-Idol Ljers too. One was younger than me and her husband posted about it on FB and I was so stunned. No health problems, nothing that was known. I’ve never heard what happened to her.

Luna hit me really hard too. She was in my GISHWHES team and we’d had so much fun together, and then she was gone. She was around my age too and young. It was sudden.

In recent times, Nicky’s death still gets me since we both had breast cancer and she helped me through my own experience. I often forget she’s gone and want to chat with her and then I’m like, “oh, I can’t.”

I thought about Kate recently and had a moment of, “I wonder why she’s not back?” And then I remembered she’s gone.

Loss is always hard, especially when it’s so out of the blue (or seems that way).

I was on the same GISHWES team with y’all. I don’t think I’ve Gished since.

You were! It was the best year imo, after that, each year was less and less fun so you got to experience the best of the best imo. Luna had some awesome submissions, I went to the old FB group the other day to find one of my old submissions and saw some of hers and it made me smile.

We lost touch for maybe the last 6-8 months before she passed. I still feel sad about that but at the time we were drifting in opposite directions. I think we would have been anyway even if she had been well.

I don't think I knew about KathrynRose! Or most of them actually - I lost track of most Idolers once I left LJ. But KathrynRose was the first Idoler to befriend me and make me feel welcome when I first started hanging around y'all.

(And I'd forgotten BlueAshke's LJ name, but we were FB friends)

I was going to say that there is an In Memoriam section on the sidebar, but when I looked over I realized that I never fully integrated the list on DW with the one on LJ so there are names missing from both versions. I need to fix that.

Which is an awful problem to have.

As to ideas I have a really good idea that has nothing to do with Ghana, but that seems like such a waste when I have so many stories about Ghana and its probably the only time a Ghanaian phrase will be the prompt!

Ha! I actually AM being kicked in the head by the prompt, and have a rough draft of a few opening paragraphs (hand written, cause that’s how I roll).

There have been so many good souls lost along the way. It’s been sad, but their writing will always stand, and it’s thoughts and ideas that wouldn’t have happened without you, Gary, and your odd prompts and prolific Hippie-kicking. ❤️

Hahaha, an idea kicked me in the head yesterday that I decided to go with, I'm just not sure it'll work. I'm having fun writing it though, so that's something. :)

The question was mine; I was curious what my best finish was over the many seasons I’ve tossed my hat into the mix (starting in season 3).

Since the number of contestants can vary wildly (there have been several with over 300), it’s hard to say “best” but as far as we can tell I’ve not broken into the top 10.

Oh, interesting. I was only around for one of those really big competitions, and barely made it to the top fifty or something. It was certainly a thrilling ride, but trying to read all the entries almost killed me. LOL

Yeah. When the field is that big we often got divided up into two or three tribes, so I’d read through and vote for my tribe first before tackling the others if I had time. It made it much more manageable.

From a game perspective, it was necessary because LJ would only allow the polls to be so big. :) So I broke up the lists into "tribes"!

Even though it's early, I may be using a bye. Our daughter is flying in to join us for a few days and I want to concentrate on her. We only get to see her a few times each year. If I can crank something out by tomorrow, then I'll submit it, but it doesn't look good.

I knew her online from our mutual FurryFandom and (slightly) in RL, as we boþ attended the same convention regularly until her passing.

Walker and I teamed up a few times when we had partners for a prompt. We never really communicated outside of that even though we were both on each other's FL. I had no idea how unwell she was. I don't think she let on to anyone on LJ, or at least anyone in Idol.

Just made me think of the friends I've lost way too soon, not Idol related but just the reality of it, the finality of it. Especially at my age and that these friends were younger than me as well.

Okay, I'm gonna not drink but drink and contemplate how to write my idea from the prompt. I don't know if it'll be anything good or enjoyable, but I refuse to do a bye unless I have nothing.

I remember losing both kathrynrose and agirlnamedluna. I think Luna hit me harder, because her death was SO sudden, and she wound up leaving an 8- or 9-year old daughter behind. I hope the girl's father or a kind relative was able to raise her.
