Green Room - Week 43 - Day 7
Mar. 26th, 2015 12:35 amThe poll closes tonight at 10pm EST.
The *season* closes then.
I know I keep saying it. But I'm trying to get my head around it as much as everyone else is - maybe a little bit more, because when I envisioned this, it was going to end with a "fade to black".
Now it's more of a "see you next time!"
We've had births. We've had deaths... omg, we've had deaths. We went an entire 8 seasons plus two mini seasons with only losing one person who was a "friend of a friend" of Idol - and a mega-champion cat.
We lost three people during Season 9. One of them dying while she wrote her Idol entry. (That's not something that gets any easier with time.)
I want this season to end in a way that honors all of that. An ending where people can point to the result and say "Damn, Season 9 was something special. It was worth going through all of that".
I can say that all three finalists are incredible writers, and people. I think their entries speak for themselves about what a difficult choice this is - and really just how different each of them are!

This season *is* an ending. It is also a beginning. Like most stories.

Date: 2015-03-26 05:01 am (UTC)I'm sure your wheels are turning, too.
I really enjoyed this season - it helped me grow as a writer, I added quite a few Idolers to my Flist, and I had the pleasure and honor of reading ridiculous amounts of really great entries! All in all, it has been one heck of a swell season (except for the unexpected deaths, of course). But Idol now has a few Angelic Gatekeepers watching over us, and that's not a bad thing.
Hugs to all - my journaling is spotty, but feel free to friend me!

Date: 2015-03-26 10:57 am (UTC)Just breezing by to say I miss all of you, but KFP is currently so busy that I rarely get a chance to just chit-chat. If you have something you'd like me to know that you think I missed (happy or sad), please comment or message me!

Date: 2015-03-26 12:57 pm (UTC)And looking back at those who left ... I think they'd be glad that this isn't the fade-to-black originally promised. Idol meant a lot to them, after all.
Turning of a page, moreso than usual.

Date: 2015-03-26 02:01 pm (UTC)Yeah, that definitely factored into the decision.

Date: 2015-03-26 02:05 pm (UTC)Because that plays into it as well. It's not just "who wrote the best entry". That should certainly be a huge component. But when it comes *to the finals*, it's not just reflecting on this week - it's looking back at where we've been, and where we are going.
Who is going to be supporting Idol, there to encourage people (and support what I'm doing with this crazy thing) in the way that the community thinks it needs?
We've been lucky so far to have extremely supportive winners, who have all approached things a little differently. But all of them were what Idol needed in that moment. Honestly, I'm not sure what approach of the three is going to be the best. But I'm confident that the collective wisdom of the Idol community *does*. :)

Idol seems to be organic and I'm sure each season was/is special! I'm glad you've committed your energies to taking this forward again. I'm looking very forward to seeing what shapes and forms it takes.
There is no question that Idol is so much a product of the writers, but, Gary, Idol is all of what it is because of you. I've been involved in many virtual and real groups, gatherings, competitions, movements....and very few are able to maintain the integrity of their intentions because there was nothing at the center, nothing to hold it all together. You are that center, you hold this thing with so much skill and determination that the writers can focus on the writing and the reading.
There would be no Idol without you. And substitutions would pale.
Thanks. Again.

Date: 2015-03-26 03:15 pm (UTC)The community here is wonderful and supportive and creative.
And, Gary, thank you for putting it all together.

Date: 2015-03-26 03:37 pm (UTC)The people I've gotten to know were worth the price of admission a dozen times over. And conquering my own doubts and hang ups, within reason, was a bonus. I never thought I could have a baby and write. Or a demanding job. Or a schedule! I just had to learn to get to work anyway.
I'm sad to see it all end, even though I'm ready, too. ♥

Date: 2015-03-26 07:17 pm (UTC)We'll both be glad to see upcoming mini-seasons or whatever you decide to do.
Now I need to find some other regular writing inspiration to keep from falling into neglect!

Date: 2015-03-26 10:12 pm (UTC)Though, I've been a little bored since I got out of the running, and now I won't even have anything to read. (I started translating fanfics I like from the Russian Pathologic fandom into English because the English-speaking fandom is so small. Also to practice Russian and to help my Russian friend practice editing on me. But mostly just for my own fun.) I hope there'll be a mini season soon - I won't do hardly anything without a deadline, and definitely not on a weekly basis.
There's almost nothing on my journal, but if anybody wants to keep up with me (I would be glad to see familiar faces around, it's nice to wander into the green room and talk, isn't it?) go ahead and friend my Tumblr. (http://meradorm.tumblr.com/)

To quote my inspiration for this piece (http://cheshire23.livejournal.com/585746.html), Roger Zelazny: "Good-bye and hello, as always."
It's been a great season. I'm so glad Idol is a thing in my life. :)

Date: 2015-03-27 01:00 am (UTC)I think The Ending Game is most appropriate. I post a word - someone responds with a new word that starts with the last letter of that word. And so on and so forth. No repeated words, no pluralization of a word already used. Ready.... Go!
