11 weeks into Season 10, and things are continuing to heat up!

The bottom 3 are going this week, and not only are there some heartbreaking results, and but also we only avoided a massive tie-breaker by a *single vote*. (to the point that I had actually already wrote up the post saying that there was going to be one!)

It's two veterans and a newbie that I've really been enjoying seeing fighting to stay in it.

Season 10 definitely seems to like doing things that way!

Leaving us this week are

[livejournal.com profile] banyangirl1832
[livejournal.com profile] reckless_blues
[livejournal.com profile] saintegloire

Thank you so much for coming out this season, and I hope we will continue to see you around, and participating in the Home Game!

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

The road to get back into the competition is going to be full of surprises, and this week was no exception. Before we even get to the poll, we already are saying goodbye to some old friends and a promising newbie.

Goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] aniron_iorhael, [livejournal.com profile] danceypants04, [livejournal.com profile] n3m3sis43 and [livejournal.com profile] talon

Thank you for coming out for another shot, and I hope we will continue to see you around, and in the Home Game!

As for the rest of you - we will be losing 4 contestants this week, as things intensify!

So make sure to read, comment and vote for your favorites, to continue on their quest! And, of course, tell your friends to do the same!

The poll closes Sunday, March 19th at 7pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

One month ago, I was getting married!

Today? I have the day off. Not because of the weather, but because of Spring Break. I was going to go in anyway, because all of our "big plans" fell through, But sometimes it's the "small plans", or just hanging out with your family, that can end up being the most special. Or at least you get to sleep in. Yay for sleeping in! :)

The main poll closes tonight: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/991458.html
and the Second Chance one opens: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/991512.html

So make sure to do whatever it is that you do (depending on which we are talking about)

I'm off to get some mini doughnuts! :)
But I'll be back later today to torture you!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The last few days have been great for my movie-watching. First we saw Moonlight and then last night it was Get Out.

Saying that both are "completely amazing" probably undersells them.

There's a lot to be said for films where you can just go in and completely escape. But there's something special when the story can be used to make you think, and talk about, deeper issues for hours, and days, after the fact.

The poll closes tomorrow, so make sure to get your votes in! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/991458.html

The Second Chance topic is also waiting for them: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/991512.html
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Happy Daylight Savings Time. I made sure to adjust my clock and went back to adjust the poll closing time as well http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/991458.html

The Second Chance topic post was already correct: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/991512.html

So make sure to get in those votes, and the entries!

We're starting Spring Break this week and had all sorts of plans - none of which has ended up happening. So no idea what we are doing for the next few days! How about you?

The race to enter the main competition will get tighter every week.

This week's topic is

Front Porch

The deadline to link your entries back to this thread is Tuesday, March 14th at 8pm EDT If you need a space to discuss ideas, feel free to use the current Work Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989672.html

Have fun!

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

Saying goodbye to anyone is tough, but when it’s yet another group of old friends, that’s just a little bit more painful. Unfortunately though, that bottom of “running out of byes and then missing one last deadline” has a way of creeping up on you, and it did for the following folks:

Goodbye to our friends [livejournal.com profile] az_starshine, [livejournal.com profile] majesticarky, [livejournal.com profile] tijuanagringo and [livejournal.com profile] wolfden

Thank you for coming out, and I hope we will see you in the Home Game.

As for the rest of the remaining contestants - there’s a little matter of “the poll” for this week!

It’s long past the “Blue Hour” when I’m posting this, but maybe not for when you are reading it. So these pieces should help set that mood for you.

Remember to read, comment and vote for your favorites! And then tell your friends to come check out what’s going on and do the same!

We will be losing the bottom 3 contestants this week.
The poll closes Tuesday, March 14th at 9pm EDT

It's Deadline Day!

Our Second Chance poll is coming to a close: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/988636.html so please take the time to read, comment and vote for the people you want to see hang out to continue to fight for a spot back in the competition!

BTW - For those not sure, This means that Second Chance's topic will go up tonight.

It's also the deadline for the main competition's entries: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989342.html

Which, for those under a rock, means their poll will go up tonight!

So make sure to get your entries in!

Any big weekend plans?

The Second Chance poll closes tomorrow: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/988636.html

and the deadline for the main competition is coming up an hour earlier the same night: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989342.html

So, I guess the important question is:

I wasn't excited at all for this season. But it definitely has me interested now. Without spoiling too much, it still has massive potential to go downhill fast, but the first two episodes that they aired certainly caught, and kept, my attention.

I guess people can talk about other stuff too, but come on, Survivor is back! (and at 500 episodes, kinda, sorta, if you squint.)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Good morning. If it is indeed still morning when you read this. If not, please change that to whatever time of day would be appropriate. Unless of course you never read this, in which case let's assume that I am greeting you anyway, and that that greeting is taking place in the morning.

The Second Chance poll is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/988636.html Make sure to vote to move folks one step closer to getting into the main competition!

Speaking of that main competition, the new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989342.html and the Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989672.html are up.

Happy International Women's Day!

and by "international" I mean anyone who doesn't live at my house.

You matter.

Well, maybe you the specific you, but the general "you". :)

Within the confines of Idol, none of you matter of course. But in the broader sense - you all do. Please remember that.

There are some special times in life, ones that you want to capture forever.

Some of them come every day, but you don't always realize it.

Take time to enjoy those moments.

Especially this week's topic:

The Blue Hour

The deadline to link your entries back to this post is Friday, March 10th at 8pm EST

Have fun!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The new topic thread is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989342.html

So is the poll for Second Chance: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/988636.html

There is also a couple more joining the 100 Weeks club: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/988997.html

This is the start of that period where there is a lot going on.

Which is when it's always a good time to ask - How are you planning on standing out from the crowd? It's a question for every week really, because there are *always* things going!

Or, to turn this around to address you as the reader - What can the rest of the crowd be doing to get, and keep, YOUR attention?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Cleavage: the tendency of crystals, certain minerals, rocks, etc., to break in preferred directions so as to yield more or less smooth surfaces (cleavage planes)

That is what I am looking for when I am taking a look at the vote totals, that perfect place for them to break - to let me know who is in and who is out. That's what happens for contestants when they cast their votes during a Contestant Only vote like this, and it's what happens when I have to sit down and examine what instructions the group has given me and decipher it.

I promised that there would be at least 5 and less than 10. The sacrifice of [livejournal.com profile] inteus_mika introduced a bit of a wrinkle into where that line was going to be. For awhile, I thought that it was going to mean fewer people were going to leaving. But as the last few votes came in, it revealed that there were going to be more. (the sacrifice itself didn't have a huge impact on the result this time, it was more from a "watching things unfold")

Ultimately though, being "close" and "out" came down to a single vote.

In the end, that break ended up taking out 9 more - for a total of the maximum of 10.

There are some extremely talented people on this list, and I hope that we will see all of them competing for spots in the Second Chance Gauntlet to get back into the competition! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/901587.html

For now though, it's goodbye and thank you for 11 weeks of awesome entries! I hope that you will come back via Second Chance, but if you are not able to do so, please stick around and Home Game!

Goodbye to

For me, it's the next stage of dental work.

For the first time ever, I wish I was you! ;)

Unless of course, you have something worse than dental work on your plate today. In which case, I'm back to being glad that I'm not you!

(and as always - thanks for the pain you are putting me through! This mini-season contributed to the total of what I was able to put together to get this bridge. Stage two, that will be today, is prepping for the actual bridge to be put in!)

Also of significance, it's LEAP DAY! So Happy Leap Day! What are you doing to do with this "extra day" of the year?

My dog was just going crazy, scribble-scrabbling around, trying to get her ball.

It had rolled under the small bookcase, and she just couldn't get to it.

She has plenty of other balls, almost identical to that one. (different colors). But that was the one she wanted in that moment. So she scrambled around and barked for someone to help her.

In doing so, she ran past another ball and several toys that just weren't what she wanted.

So I came from the other room, and once I figured out what was going on, I got down and I reached under the bookcase to get the ball.

This is something that happens a couple times a day. She will roll the ball under, and I will go get it. She has me trained.

It got me thinking - what in my own life did I insist upon - when there were plenty of other options that would have been just as good - but *that's* the one I wanted, and I was going to have it regardless of what I would need to do to get it? Who were the people that I knew I could count on to help me out?

How about you? Is there anything you are constantly rolling under the bookcase and who is it that you can count on to help you get them out?

Voting is happening right now: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/900783.html so make sure you get your votes in! Take the time to read, comment and vote for your favorites - but, of course, the earlier you get your votes in, the less time it will take to post the results! :)

Good evening Idolers.

You can stop looking for the poll now.

There's nothing to click. But plenty to read.

Unfortunately, we are losing someone before the vote, due to a bye-out:

Thank you so much for coming out this mini-season. I hope that you will be trying to get back into the competition via Second Chance.

Speaking of Second Chance, it could get a lot more interesting in the next two cycles - because we are about to have another purge.

It's a CONTESTANT ONLY poll. Which means that only current contestants can cast a ballot - by sending their votes, via email, to clauderainsrm@gmail.com .

This time around, there is NO LIMIT on how many names you can send me. If you want to vote for all of them, you can. (but that would be counterproductive). If you want to vote for just a couple people, that's OK as well. Although I'm pretty damn sure there are many more than a couple you will end up loving!

How many contestants will be eliminated? Between 5 to 10. (Depending on where the vote-break ends up being)

The entries can be found over here: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/898794.html - so read, comment and send me your votes!

Voting ends Monday, Feb 29th at 8pm EST

Good luck to everyone!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Today is the deadline to get your entry in: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/898794.html so do it!

I know that you are in the pool playing "Marco!" "Ruuuubio!!"

But take the time to actually write your entry and post the link. There will be plenty of time for political-based pool games later.

I almost said "water games". But political-based water sports are something *completely* different!

We had two more people join the fray last night: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/900104.html There will be two more changes for someone to do that. So if you are out there, considering your options, I wouldn't wait for the last one. I'd make sure I got into it as early as possible so that I'd have more of a shot! (insert "I'm not throwing away my shot" here)

So, how are you doing today?

What do you have on your mind? (other than Georgia)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Tonight is the last chance to vote on who you want to see come into the main competition: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/899509.html

Tomorrow is the last chance to submit something for said main competition in Week 11: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/898794.html

and right now is my first chance to mention that a band I really like is changing their name.

The band is Andrew Jackson Jihad. Or, more to the point, they *were* Andrew Jackson Jihad.

Sometime yesterday, they released a new song from their upcoming album - and their name change.

(Part of their statement, the rest was about their album and tour)

"Hi Gang! Big news today.

We are officially changing our name from Andrew Jackson Jihad to the simple, familiar abbreviation that most of you already call us: AJJ.
The two biggest reasons for this are:

1.) We are not Muslims, and as such, it is disrespectful and irresponsible for us to use the word jihad in our band's name.

2.) We no longer wish to be a living reminder of president Andrew Jackson. Interesting historical figure as he was, he was an odious person and our fascination with him has grown stale.

We are very sorry to any people the name has offended. We would like to thank those who have reached out over the years to let us know that the name is problematic, especially those who reached out with kindness. Had we known in 2004 that we would still be making music together 12 years later, we most certainly would have chosen a more thoughtful name from the start."

It got me thinking of Two Cow Garage, who I'm pretty sure *are not* offending anyone with their name - but they really don't like it. They opted to keep it though, because they've been recording/touring and don't really want to have to build back up the audience they've established with name recognition.

I'm also thinking of Ian Graham's "Cheap Girls". I love their music - but the name tends to make me uncomfortable.

Granted, with AJJ - that tended to be what fans called them anyway. So they have an advantage those other two bands didn't.

Of course - the reaction has been divided between those who like the name change and those who don't, with quite a bit of name-calling back and forth between those groups. Because, you know: internet.

It got me thinking though about name-changing your brand. If you had an user name that you really liked for years, but it was pointed out "that's problematic", would you consider changing it? How long and hard would you have to think about that?

(Granted, usernames may not be the *best* example - since very few people are making money on LJ user names - but taking that into Youtube and other social media outlets, that's definitely the case where they do!)

Now that I think of it, "Problematic" would be a good band name - I'm sure someone has already claimed it long ago though!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
There is a Second Chance poll happening right now: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/899509.html so make sure to check it out and help 2 of the 3 of them get back into the competition!

We also have the Topic for the main competition: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/898794.html and a Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/898968.html

and of course, another Trump victory. (this time in Nevada)

I'm starting to think that the GOP isn't going to stop this guy. Not sure if anyone can...

The gold plated bathroom fixture supply companies are going to be sending bids in to redo the White House any time now!!
