I know there has been some concern about if the US Government shutdown was going to impact Idol.

I just want to reassure you that "America" isn't the same as "'Merica". Our government (me) is still fully operational, and still deeply committed to eliminating all but one of you.

Also - the US system of justice don't come into play when it comes to backstreet, no-holds-barred Literary Prize Fights. I realize that there is a lot of confusion about that, since if you glance at it, a lot of white people end up winning, and it's run by an older white guy. So you might think it's the US justice system. But if you take a step back, you'll realize that it's mostly women who get ahead/have the advantage in this system, so you'd realize that no, they most certainly aren't the same.

Since it's looking like the IRS might not be open for the start of tax season, you can now pay what you owe the US government to 'Merica instead. As I understand it, it's totally OK with them. Or, if it's not, they are too busy being shutdown to be able to refute it.

Here are some links

Second Chance has a topic due tomorrow: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1028072.html

the main competition has one due on Wednesday: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1028498.html

There is a Home Game thread for people who want to write for either of those, who isn't in that group of contestants: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1028659.html

We had someone hit 100 weeks https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1029195.html (and I revealed that we have 2 contestants going for breaking the record of the most weeks survived!) Not sure that either of them are going to break this mini season, but next time they show up they definitely both will!)

The Write-off result was posted - https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1029604.html

It's not a link, but I was going to say (above) that I was an older cisgendered white guy. But I couldn't recall if it's properly "cisgendered" or "cis-gendered", so I looked it up - and learned that apparently it's now a problematic term and "non trans" is the term. Or "a term" at least. I thought I was keeping up, but apparently I'm way behind. This is why I just call everyone a bunch of damn hippies and kick you instead of trying to relate to anyone.

I'm glad to see that the shutdown won't be affecting Idol. I was so worried! But now I can worry about my entry. Still no idea. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing for the shutdown to extend to Idol after all.

Grrrrr, Monday, first day back at school for the girls with the early alarm for all of us and I awoke with a killer sinus headache. And I forgot my Bluetooth keyboard for snatched moments of Idol writing throughout the day. Can I get a do-over starting at around 10:30 PM last night? ‘Merica may not be shut down, but I feel like I’m running at half speed.

Well, I have vague ideas for the prompt, but they haven't written themselves, so...

I did almost entirely finish de-Christmasing the inside of the house this weekend, and got the post-Xmas cards out, and finished up a bunch of other stuff-- even balanced a checkbook!

Because I'm back at the office today after a nice 3-week break, so... all the at-home stuff will start to slide now. :(

We're entering a long storm cycle here, and last night involved a lot of nervously listening to roaring winds and hoping they didn't take down any trees (or huge parts of trees), or any of the fences. /o\

I did a lot of "nervous listening" last night as well! Kid's first day back at school after break and when we went to bed it was snowing like crazing, which meant that if it continued, I wasn't quite sure if I'd be able to make it down the driveway to get the kid to the bus stop. Luckily, I heard rain a couple of times during the night. Still didn't get much sleep.....

This brings back the years I lived in Portland (Oregon), where the snow (and occasional ice) mean you DO have to worry about getting down your driveway-- or your hill-- during the winter.

A friend who lives in Portland now mentioned this neat invention for walking: they're like braces you slip on over the bottoms of your shoes, and they add traction-- kind of like snow tires. And they're super lightweight, so you can carry them with you and put them on when you need them.

It won't help if you have to drive, but it can make walking down your own driveway or hill a lot less scary!

Well that's cool! I'm in Washington and am going to look into these, because yeah, walking on ice is super scary. I've fallen more than once in my parking lot when it was icy!

Whereabouts do you live now?

We had a crazy windstorm night before last that downed a LOT of trees, it was nuts!
