Green Room - Week 27 - Day 13

Public service announcement: A bus is bigger than your car. Unless you are driving a semi or an assault vehicle of some kind, if you attempt to merge into the lane currently occupied by the bus - you are going to lose.

Take this as an analogy for life - or as something that happened to me this morning while riding the bus. (Note: it's the latter. Although messing with people much bigger than you because "you can" probably holds some dangers as well)

The woman who hit the bus was fine. Her side mirror was left hanging - and everyone on the bus was annoyed, but OK.

The lug nut rule: Never go up against a vehicle with more lug nuts than yours. I was on a bus that was hit by an SUV once, I watched the driver on her phone, looking the other way, slide into traffic and into the bus just ahead of me. Nobody was hurt, but it was still really bizarre. I'm glad you're okay.

Wow - an SUV! I'm glad everyone was OK.

I was on the other side of the bus, so I didn't see what was going on. But everyone on the other side did.

She pulled over (into a construction area on the side of the on-ramp) and got out her car and started angrily banging on the door of the bus (who had pulled behind her) as he spoke to dispatch so they could call the police. It was more weird than anything else.

I can't believe the woman in that car survived unharmed. She was really lucky!

I'm trying to catch up with reading, since I've been up late for days on work stuff and wall-to-wall while AT work. Argh... :(

(I was supposed to go to something at school, but I ended up missing it because I holed up in the computer lab watching the livestream. Probably freaking people out because I spent hours sitting there staring intently at a silent video feed of people milling around their office.)

The woman who hit the bus was fine.

I've lost count of the number of instances where I've been on a NYC bus that some idiot side-swiped. MTA regulations requires the bus to immediately stop and go out of service for even a minor incident... and more often than not, the other vehicle just keeps going and never stops to exchange info with the bus driver!

I had a pretty awful day today, but not as awful as the lady who drove under the bus, I bet. That's some consolation. I did get all the reading done! I also got none of the commenting done. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Sigh. I feel like it's getting harder as time goes on, and I'm not entirely sure why that is. I'm pretty sure it's entirely a me-thing, but dang, I need to get over it. But first, I need sleep.
