For those just coming out of Last Chance Idol, it's a familiar feeling of "What do I write now?"

For the rest of you, there hasn't been an Open Topic since (*looks*) Week 13. Which means you've had plenty of time to think of something good.

And, under these circumstances - it had better be! ;)

No pressure or anything - but the group is now completely together. No more additions - only subtractions. One of you *is* going to win this thing.

What are some of the ideas that you have been holding in reserve, just in case - and how are you going to break out of this tight pack to showcase your work, while at the same time, trying to hold yourself together?

Hmmmm.... I'm usually not certain what I'm going to do with an open topic, but this week I wrote part one of a fantasy story that's been in my head for a few years... the response from people who commented seemed to suggest that I should go forward, though it was a nailbiter in the polls... maybe I shouldn't let that stop me, though... we might have just reached that point, and that's what to be expected from now on. Because, if I do that, it would be easy to continue the momentum I had this week with that story forward... this is very convenient timing. And, it would leave me not wondering what to do.

I DO keep a spreadsheet of ideas for stories I want to write, both from my life and family, as well as fiction, but, whether or not I write any of them often depends on whether or not I'm "feeling it." If I've got a notion, and a head to continue with, I'm guessing I should just push into that full steam ahead, and maybe for once not be pressing too hard against the deadline.

- What trends do you see in writing, and what do you think about them? (the one that popped immediately to mind was how Gonzo Journalism/personality-based writing became blogging and how that has exploded into "new journalism". But I'm sure there are others - drabs, etc)

- Who inspires you?

1. I doubt I'll write a HG entry, but if I did, the thing that's on my mind right now is - we can't trick or treat safely anymore, it's all "have a safe thing at church or the school." And you can't jump on your bike and roll without protective gear, and there are all kinds of toys and things that aren't safe anymore that we all survived just fine (mostly) - so my question is - Why do we still have The Ice Cream Man? I mean, watch some tv or movies or read some scary books (Mr. Mercedes). The Ice Cream Man is probably a serial killer, or a pedophile, or a drug dealer, or a demon trapping kids into an alternate reality (Charmed), yet one drives past my house every day playing that creepy song.

Just sayin.

3. Trends - People farming wikipedia for random facts and then posting "WOW AMAZING!" articles on click bait sites.

Hmm.. I gave my brat some ideas,

1) being held in an insane asylum, because you are sane and the 'management' isn't

2) fluffy pomeranians hatch an evil plan to take over the world with their cuteness one lap at a time... the goal to enslave humans and have all cats turned into rugs.

3) suddenly finding yourself inside your favorite painting

4) you're the devil and want to stop your evil ways

I'm not doing NaNo although SO and I had talked about it earlier in the year. Given that November is his really busy time for work and November also means PIE HELL WEEK for me, we both figured neither of us is going to have brainpower nor energy for it :p

If I were still playing I'd probably take the characters of one of my previous entries and put them in another scenario. Like maybe Coyote actually sticking around long enough to converse with a human. Or somehow running into one of my real life character inspirations recently and realizing that, sadly, some things never change.

Open topics are evil.

They are evil to write because there are so many things you can choose from that it is difficult to narrow them down.

And they are evil to read, the absence of a topic removes one of the criteria of 'evaluation', even if it is an easy one of "this is the topic's cousin seven times removed' vs 'but they are not related at all!'

I have been contemplating some things for a while, and I guess tonight I will get started on writing them out in an entry. If I don't think it works for Idol, I'll just make it a regular LJ entry and then go write something else.

Probably more Surreal Darkness.

I know, I know, it's a sort of serial and it's sort of the same thing again, but I want to write more Surreal Darkness today for Halloween for my Sims friends.

Of course who knows, maybe I will find the mental energy and time to write the contemplative LJ post, some Surreal Darkness for Halloween, AND a totally new story for Idol!

Or, you know, probably not. Especially with work being what it is lately and taking so much mental energy.

I hear you with this :nodding: I'll add "physical" to it as well. I've slowly realizing that one simply cannot accomplish All The Things without something faltering, no matter how much one believes in superhuman prowness. It just doesn't work that way. I'm living proof.
