is flipflop_diva

who blew the competition away.

Come get this necklace. You earned it.

You are immune at tribal council and have 1 in 3 chance of winning this game.

As for the rest of you - well, let's just say you aren't as fortunate.

The dreams of one of you of winning this game are about to come to a crashing end.

You have tonight to start figuring out who that is going to be. I'll see you in the morning.

Good night.

A few words from Gary:

Congratulations to our final four.
In this game, fire represents your life. When it is gone, so are you.

That’s true at tribal council, and it’s true now.

Read the entries. Comment. Vote for your favorites.

The contestant with the entry that has the most votes will win this crucial immunity, and advance to the Final 3!
The rest of you will have to face the uncertainty of tribal council.

The poll closes Thursday, March 11th at 9pm ET

You've made it to the Final Four. Congratulations.

The goal of winning this game is within reach.

Over the last couple seasons in US Survivor, Jeff Probst introduced a new wrinkle into the game (to keep the threats around, since they would normally get voted out. Instead of letting people vote, someone would win immunity and pick one person to go to the finale with them - and the other two would make fire.

Before became the final 4 vote though, it was often used to break ties.

But you aren't here for a Survivor history lesson. You want to know what the next topic is... and I've already told you that. :)

You are here to make fire.

Or rather, write an entry inspired by

"Making Fire"

You have until Tuesday, March 9th at 8pm ET to link your entry to this thread. I'm going to give you the option of sitting out again. If you can't write right now, or think "I don't need this immunity" you can sit out this challenge. Just let me know in advance.

Come on in and have a seat.

*waits until everyone is seated*

I'll bring in the Jury...   jenwithapen, bittyjane, megatronix, impoetry, n3m3sis43, minikin25, wolfden, lawchicky819, bsgsix, swirlsofpurple, eeyore_grrl, bleodswean, and the newest member, voted out last week, adoptedwriter.

*camera goes from them sitting down to the nervous contestants watching them*

Before we get started,  I just want to address the elephant in the room - last week the vote was 4-1-1, which means that 2 people were on the wrong side of that vote.  Obviously, one of them was adoptedwriter, who was voted out.   I know the answer to this - but the jury might not - does anyone want to own up to being the other one?

Also - that means that at this point, the 4 of you who voted together are about to have to turn on each other in the next couple of rounds.  Will you be surprised to find out that you were really 4th in the alliance the entire time?

[personal profile] murielle  - You have that immunity necklace around your neck and have said that you thought your head was on the block this week.  Is this a matter of you NEEDED to win in order to survive?   If you weren't immune this week, do you think you'd be packing your bags right now?   Is your only way to the end winning every immunity, or do you think there's a chance for you to stick around without it?

[personal profile] gunwithoutmusic  -  You mentioned that you would be upset to go out 4th or 5th... I think though that it needs to be pointed out that you are the only guy left.  Which means either you are Chris Daughtery,  who managed to survive, and win against long odds OR the remaining women just aren't interested in following in the footsteps of Kim Spradlin and Cirie Fields (Parvati usually gets credit for it by the fans, but the players say it was all Cirie) and taking all women to the final four to start off Women's History Month.    Is that something you worry about, or do you think your relationships are stronger than the urge to tick a box off on a "Survivor resume"?

[personal profile] flipflop_diva -  You played the idol last week, but didn't need to in order to survive. Were you expecting more votes or just feeling nervous?  Given that this is the last week to play a hidden immunity idol, do you wish you had held onto it one more week?  Does playing an idol one week make you even more of a target the following tribal council?

[personal profile] halfshellvenus  - You've mentioned how tough it is to make a decision on who to eliminate, is this week even harder knowing that whoever finishes in 5th place isn't going to get an Amazon gift card?  Is there anyone here that it would be easier to *not* give that money to...  I know murielle is saying she was nervous that her head was on the block, but if she wasn't immune right now - do you think people would vote her out, under those circumstances?

[personal profile] alycewilson  -  I know you've mentioned this before, but what would it mean to you, personally, to make it through this vote?  Murielle has immunity and there is at least one hidden immunity out there, and they expire after this week.  Which means, unless someone wants to use it as a coaster back home, it's going get played. So the number of potential targets is really small.   Is there anyone here who you think would be OK if they didn't get to the final 4?  Is there anything someone could say to you right now to that could change the outcome of how you plan on voting?

Second Round

alycewilson -  I love how specific this is, and the use of poetry as narrative.   With the "first two stanzas" conversation from the comments, I'm in the "keep it" column.
I've gone back and forth on it.  I can see where it might not fit for some, and how others might think it would work better with a wraparound.  But I think that a frame risks being too heavy handed.
IF you were going to add something, I'd put it in after the "maiden would finally fall for him"
and let the ending stand.  Which brings me to a question that I don't think I've asked anyone yet - when you receive contradictory editing advice, how do you process that?

flipflop_diva -  This had the feel of a slow moving horror movie.  You knew what was coming, but no matter how loudly you shouted at the screen, you couldn't stop it from coming.
Speaking of framing,
I think you did a good job surrounding the core of the story with the everyday/how things are. The "normal", whatever that means anymore...  when writing non-fiction, how do you pick which details to leave in?  (I've definitely seen people in non-fiction accounts where they throw in the kitchen sink, because it's there and therefore, somehow, relevant... and others were they gloss over the details to get to a more sensational version of the story.)

gunwithoutmusic -  When I declare an Open Topic, I'm always interested in seeing where people go with it.  You managed to grab the two elements you've been getting comments about over the past couple months, your hiking stories and your relationship stories and make them fit together seamlessly.   It was as if you'd found a way to boil the last few months done into a single entry.  How many other ideas did you toss aside before focusing in on this one, or was it just what came to you when the time was right, and it just worked?

halfshellvenus -  At this point, retelling myths has become an Idol staple.  I like this twist on it, actually reimaging the story itself.   You've covered a lot of the "whys" for the process in the comment section.  So I'll ask the "how", how did you move forward once you had those opening lines, and understood that it was going to be a poem?    How do you move the narrative through the form?  Is it step by step, finding your footing as you go, or do you have a map of where you want to go and figure out how to fit them into the format?

murielle -  'Grandpa"... you're leaving us on "Grandpa..."?  Yes, that's my question.  :)     This story has definitely taken some twists and turns along the way.  When you go back and finish it as a single piece, which I'm sure you'll be doing - is there anything from the earlier chapters you will change? Something you wished you'd introduced earlier?

The last question is for everyone - because for one of you this WILL  be your final chance to plead your case - Why should you be kept in this game?

OK. It's time to vote.  Send the name of who you want to vote out of this game to me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com by tomorrow, Saturday March 6th at 7pm ET.    If you have a hidden immunity idol, and you would like to play it for yourself, or someone else, that would be the time to let me know.   Note:

A few words from Gary:

So here we are, at the Final 5. Whoever doesn’t make it through this round not only has no shot at winning the game, they are cut-off within arm’s reach of the prizes.

That means winning immunity right now is even more important than it’s even been.

1 of you is about to have a 1 in 4 chance of winning this game, and 4 of you will be sharing in that Amazon gift card pot.

It’s all up to the voters now. Read. Comment and vote for your favorite to win immunity!

Given that this is the last challenge before the "prize cutoff", I'm going to take the literal and figurative handcuffs off you.

You can, if you are feeling safe - or just need to, decide to "sit out" the challenge.  Just post a note below before the deadline.

Back to the drawing board.

We are still at our Top 6.

There is another chance to sit out without penalty. If you aren't able to write/don't think you need immunity, you can hang out at the buffet table near the sit out bench and just hang out.

If you DO want to play though, the prompt is

You Shook Me

based on the challenge

A few words from Gary:

There were a few different things about this week’s challenge: a shorter deadline, a prompt based on a Jeff Probstism rather than a challenge and of course, I offered a chance for contestants to sit out.

Halfshellvenus took me up on the offer and is now enjoying the buffet all by herself for the duration of this challenge. She gets to sit back and watch as the rest of her tribemates fight it out for immunity.

For the rest you - the poll will close Thursday Feb 11th at 8pm ET. The contestant with the most votes will win immunity.

Worth playing for? Obviously, most of you think so.

It's the time time that the prompt isn't based on a Survivor challenge.  This time it's based on something that Jeff Probst loves to say!
It's also the first time you have the option to write or not... !

That's right - you can decide to sit out the challenge and enjoy a buffet, with all the fixins!  There is no penalty for sitting out.

OR you can compete for a chance at individual immunity by writing an entry based on the prompt

"ALL THE FIXINS"

The deadline to link your entry back to this post though is Tuesday, Feb 9th at 6pm ET.  So it's a tight turnaround.  Either post your entry, or your intent to sit out and enjoy the buffet, in the thread below!

A few words from Gary:

Come on in guys!

A 1 in 7 chance of winning this game. That is what is at stake right now. One of you will be walking away with immunity, and a guaranteed spot, getting you one step closer to that goal. Everyone else will have to sweat it out at an increasingly more difficult tribal council. As the numbers dwindle, the less room to maneuver you have… and the tougher these decisions are to make. Having that necklace around your neck is the only sure way of being around for another week.

I know that’s worth playing for - so let’s get started.

This week, you were asked to write an entry based on the Survivor challenge “Uncomfortably Numb” - now the audience is going to read, comment and vote for their favorites.

The contestant with the highest number of votes wins immunity.

The poll will be open until Monday, Feb 1st at 8pm ET.

For those looking for a bsgsix update, there's some good news from our medical team-  https://manofmanycats.dreamwidth.org/1201.html
clauderainsrm: (Default)
[personal profile] clauderainsrm
A few words from Gary:

She’s played multiple seasons, and has never been voted out. Every time, she has had to leave due to a medical emergency.

[personal profile] bsgsix said that this time she would have to be carried out of the game.

That is what happened.

Per her friend who contacted me, she has been in a coma in the ICU at UMMC since Saturday fighting the post-COVID syndrome that she’s been fighting for awhile now. Her husband was cleared to be at her side. So at least she’s not alone.

We all know what a fighter she is - so I’m sure if anyone can come back from this, it’s her. But in the meantime, please send any good vibes, thoughts, prayers, hippie-kicks (for strength) in the direction of her and her family.

From a game perspective, picture the helicopter taking her to a medical facility off the island. If she is able to be a part of the Jury when the time comes, that spot is open for her. I will continue to update you as I find out more.

***
In the meantime… It’s a lousy transition, but I don’t think there’s anyone here who thinks for a moment that she wouldn’t want us to continue to fight this out to the finish… we have a challenge to complete and a poll to vote on!

With bsgsix no longer in the competition, that means someone new is about to become the first person to win individual immunity!

Read. Comment and vote for your favorite(s) to advance one step further with an 1 in 8 chance of winning Survivor: LJ Idol!

The poll closes Thursday, Jan 21st at 8pm ET.

Come on in guys!!

It's the first of two individual immunity challenges for this round.  The winner of this will receive an immunity idol, making them safe at the next tribal council.

This is pretty straight forward.  I asked each of you a series of questions.  You answered them.   Then I asked for your guesses on what the tribe said.

This is all about how aware you actually are in this game, and the social dynamics within the tribe.

I'll post the question - the correct answer - and who got it right.

Then I will take the order listed on your "chop list"...

Each contestant has 3 ropes each, attached to a ceramic doll with your name on it.  Once all 3 of your ropes are chopped, the doll is smashed and you are out.     If, at the end of the 10 questions, there are still multiple contestants left - we will then go with correct answers, and "nearly correct" guesses (the second place in each category), continuing until we are down to one person.

Ready to get going?  Let's get to it.

The first question is:
Who would you trust with your life?

There was a 3 way tie.  Acceptable answers are  adoptedwriter, bleodswean  and bsgsix

Oddly enough, only 1 of you got this right.   halfshellvenus gets the first chop.

*camera pans to her as she picks up the machete and walks over where the dolls are hanging*

swirlsofpurple's 1st rope has been chopped.

Next question

Who would never survive on their own on an island?

Correct answer -  bsgsix

Adoptedwriter, eeyore_grrl and halfshellvenus all got it right.

*camera follows each of them*

adoptedwriter chops bsgsix's first rope.
eeyore_grrl chops bsgsix's second rope
halfshellvenus goes back to swirlsofpurple and chops her second rope.

2 rounds into this and 2 contestants are hanging on by a thread, with everyone else yet to take any damage.

Third question -

Who would you most like to hang out with in person once this game, and pandemic, is over?

The correct answer was bleodswean

Remarkably, no one got that right.

Fourth question -

Who mistakenly thinks they are running this game?

The correct answer is bsgsix

Everyone EXCEPT bsgsix and swirlsofpurple got this right.

Adoptedwriter chops bsgsix - taking her out of the game.
alycewilson getting her first chance to take a swing gives eeyore_grrl her first taste
Everyone's post-pandemic buddy bleodswean is up and she chops eeyore_grrl as well
eeyore_grrl getting into this, but who will she strike?  She heads over and hits halfshellvenus
flipflop_diva gets a turn - and she goes for eeyore_grrl, taking her out of the game!
gunwithoutmusic is up - where will he go?   Looks like he's headed over to say hello to swirlsofpurple - removing her as well!
halfshellvenus is back at bat - and this time she goes for adoptedwriter
murielle gets the last shot this round, and she heads on over to halfshellvenus!

That round was brutal!  halfshellvenus with 1 rope left.  adoptedwriter with 2 of hers intact, and everyone else remaining in the game still holding on with 3.

Fifth question,
Who is the best writer?

The group's answer was bleodswean

Of the people still in the game - adoptedwriter, halfshellvenus, flipflop_diva, gunwithoutmusic and murielle got it right

adoptedwriter heads on over to her choice as "best writer" and gives bleodswean a warm welcome to this game
halfshellvenus goes back to give adoptedwriter her second hit
flipflop_diva grabs the machete, but where is she heading?  she takes halfshellvenus' third and final rope.
gunwithoutmusic is up - he chops adoptedwriter's third and final rope.
Last hit of this round goes to murielle, who goes over to flipflop_diva's rope to say "hello"

At the end of that round, both bleodswean and flipflop_diva have 2 ropes left - alycewilson, gunwithoutmusic and murielle have all 3 of their ropes intact.  Halfway through the questions and half the field is already gone!

Sixth question -

Who does the most for the tribe?
Correct answer - murielle

Of those still in the game - alycewilson, flipflop_diva and gunwithoutmusic got it right

alycewilson starts the second half of this competition off by giving a little something back to murielle
flipflop_diva sends a little chop action over to gunwithoutmusic, getting him into the action.
gunwithoutmusic heads over to give a little more love and appreciation to murielle - who is suddenly down to a single rope left.

alycewilson is the only one with all 3 ropes left. bleodswean, flipflop_diva and gunwithoutmusic all have 2 left.

Seventh question -

Who is the most honest in the context of this game?

I'm sure, outside of Survivor, the answer is "everyone here" - but we didn't poll anyone outside the game.  It was just the current contestants - and they came up with another tie.
The correct answer is bsgsix and murielle

bleodswean, flipflop_diva and gunwithoutmusic all got it right

bleodswean is up first and heads on over to introduce flipflop_diva to her machete.
flipflop_diva has some plans of her own and knocks another notch out of gunwithoutmusic
gunwithoutmusic ends murilelle's chances at immunity with one final chop of honesty.

alycewilson still sitting untouched. bleodswean has 2 ropes and flipflop_diva and gunwithoutmusic hoping that no one gets these last couple of questions correct.

Question number eight -
Who is the most likely to stab you in the back in this game?
The correct answer is flipflop_diva
None of the remaining contestants got that answer right.

The next to last question - Number 9:

Who is playing the most like this was “LJ Idol”?

The correct answer is bleodswean

The only remaining contestant to get that correct was flipflop_diva

She heads on over and takes gunwithoutmusic out of the running for immunity

Tenth, and final question of this round:

Who is playing the most like this was “Survivor”?

It's a tie.  The correct answer is bsgsix and flipflop_diva
Both alycewilson and bleodswean got that right

alycewilson goes over and hits bleodswean, knocking her down to a single remaining hit.
bleodswean takes flipflop_diva out of the game.

Now it's down to 2.   We head on back up to Question 1, and see what the guesses are.  bleodswean only can take one more hit - and alycewilson is untouched.

Neither of them got the correct answer to the first question, so I will now look to see if they guessed the second highest choice...
Oh, it was 4-way tie...
bloedswean got it right...and so did alycewilson, which means this is over...

*camera follows alycewilson over to cut bleodswean's final rope*

[personal profile] alycewilson wins immunity, and is safe from the vote!!!
