15 weeks into the mini-competition, and the final week of the Teams.

That's where we are.

Which of course means that it's going to be brutal to say goodbye to people. I knew that. I know that. But every week still ends up surprising me.

I said we were going to be losing 2 from the Friends and 1 from the Rivals. Oddly enough, the bottom two (of the three) teams ended up with the same overall score. That doesn't mean anything as far as who is leaving us, but it (once more) just shows how close things have been all season long!

From the Friends, we are losing
Gossamer Steamroller's [livejournal.com profile] adoptedwriter
and
Team Norbert's [livejournal.com profile] ellakite

From the Rivals, it came down to a single vote. Unfortunately though, the return of [livejournal.com profile] reckless_blues was far too short-lived.

It's kind of fitting that the Friends part is coming to an end, and we are eliminating three people who are very much at the heart of our community. I hope they will continue to Home Game (because they definitely will be missed), and stick around to hang out and cheer on their favorites!

How was your Easter weekday? Did you help any hippies who had gotten stuck in a cave?

According to my "Facebook Memories on this day" - last year at this time I was posting about the last day of Season 9!

In some ways, that feels like a long time ago, and in a lot of ways it still feels like Season 9 is still playing out in this mini-season! (which tends to happen, even with a break)

I don't have anything quite as exciting as a finale vote for you today, but I do have a bunch of really good entries that you can read! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/912394.html

Help determine who will be going to the finale of Friends and Rivals!! (Well, at least taking one step closer to it)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

This is the last round of the Teams. I hope that you have enjoyed this particular twist. I know that I learned a lot about what I would, and wouldn’t do with idea in the future. There is definitely some potential there, but who knows if this was a one-off or something that could pop up again.

That’s what is kind of exciting about it.

This stretch of Idol is about transitioning into a solo game, one that the Rivals have been playing the entire time. It is going to be fun to see how it all plays out!

Unfortunately, there are two people who will not be making that journey with us:

[livejournal.com profile] lawchicky and [livejournal.com profile] tijuanagringo

Two very talented, and good, people that I’m really happy to have seen come this far in the mini-season. I wish we could have seen more from them. (Hopefully they will play the Home Game and we can!)

As for the rest, the ones still in the competition: we will be losing some more this week.

2 from the Friends and 1 from the Rivals.

Our time together is rapidly growing shorter. I hope you take the time to read, comment and vote for your favorites - to help us get one step closer!

The poll closes Monday, March 28th at 9pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

I'd like to thank Idol's Patron's - this week your continued support had a *direct* impact on this competition!

The money generated from our Patron group https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027&ty=h tends to go toward things like "paying for internet", and other indirect things that make things a lot easier to justify the time and effort that I'm not putting toward my family. ;)

This week though, something came up and being "in-between checks" it could have been *bad*. Not especially expensive, but more than I would have had on hand. (Which, regardless of the amount, "more than you have on hand" is "too much".)

It was when I was sick. I set my laptop down on the bed to go out of the room for a moment. I hadn't reached the door when I heard that dreaded BOOM sound and saw the laptop on the floor and one of my cats looking startled (and/or "I didn't do that! I'm just sitting here, in this spot, where I wasn't a few minutes ago. But I totally didn't do anything")

I checked out the laptop itself, and it was still working fine. (Whew!)

But it had been plugged in to the charger. The charger plug was completely bent, to the point that the act of pulling it out of the computer caused it to snap off.

The upshot being that I haven't had a way to charge my computer in a couple days, while I was waiting for a replacement to arrive. Again, thanks to our wonderful Patrons, I was able to order that replacement as well as get it shipped extra quickly.

Which is why I'll be able to post a poll tonight instead of having a paperweight and seeing if I could borrow a computer! A working charger is a "small thing", but knowing that Idol has the support that it does means everything.

So, while it was on my mind, I wanted to take a moment to say "Thank You".

I'm home sick today. My fingers typed "home suck" three times there. They are correct, it does really suck! :)

Another thing that sucks is saying goodbye to people, like we had to do last night: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/878572.html

We also had a new set of choices for a topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/910933.html
and a Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/911244.html

It's an old conversation - but how much of the "instant communication" of online interaction do you think has played into a feeling of wanting/expecting social change at an increased pace?

I keep seeing people from "an older generation" express how slowly change comes, if it comes at all. Sort of the river running through a mountain approach.

But the younger someone is, the more it *seems* (to me, your mileage may vary) that they want to go after all the things at once, take them all down and move forward ASAP. Granted, I do recall having a bit of that when I was younger, but it feels like it's amped up to 11.

I only wish those damn kids were as quick about getting off my lawn!!

The new topics are up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/910933.html

and by now, I'm sure you have a method to your madness of how to deal with it.

So I'll let you get to it.

But I will let you know that last week was the end of the immunities. Neither of the two that were awarded at the start of the season ended up being used to protect their owners.

Also, Teams will be going away with the Top 25 or whenever there is only 1 team left (whatever comes first). So if you want to form, reform or change teams, the time is growing very short to do so!

You can use byes until the Top 20. But even that is coming soon... after that point, it's writing non-stop until we get to the end of this!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's time for the worst part of the week - saying goodbye.

[livejournal.com profile] diagenou
[livejournal.com profile] minikin

are leaving us from Tribe 1. Two well respected veterans leaving us far earlier than I would have predicted.

From Tribe 2 we have something slightly different:

Because [livejournal.com profile] dreamsreflected was one of the people who would have been eliminated. Except that she was the one who received BOUNCING IMMUNITY from [livejournal.com profile] roina_arwen this week! Which means that she is safe, and now that has been used, that immunity is gone from the game.

Which means that leaving us this week is our favorite time traveling T-Rex [livejournal.com profile] octavian_trex

and that [livejournal.com profile] crimsonplum and Heather Hambel Curley will be forming a new Redemption Tribe where they will be facing off next week.

Thank you to everyone who is leaving us this week. I hope to see you in the Home Game, and that you will be throwing your hat into the ring for a Second Chance!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Here we are, at the end of "The Week that would not end", staring down over the cliff of the Top 100, when Idol becomes a slalom on triple black diamond EX course. Or at least gets closer to that point.

We still have until tonight though to decide who it is that will be joining us in that Promised Land: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/763043.html

Based on what you've seen, who isn't getting the love that you feel their entry this week warrants?

Who are the "sleepers" of the competition? The gems that just haven't broken through the permafrost quite yet, but deserve the chance to grow into a gem tree?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The creatures that I have summoned from the depths of the Earth are on their way from Siberia. http://time.com/3051402/siberia-holes/

They should be at your homes soon.

So I'd suggest that you get your votes in for this week as soon as possible http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/763043.html before you are destroyed.

Unless of course you can come up with a good reason why I SHOULDN'T have them destroy you. Can you?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Trying to catch up with the news over the last couple of weeks.

I saw bits and pieces from facebook. But if that is to be believed, the only things that happened were the NFL suspending Ray Rice for only two days, Tony Dungy saying he wouldn't draft Michael Sam and the situation in Gaza. Well, and people talking about Darlena. :)

Other than that, I really didn't see much.

So fill me in - what interesting stories have I missed over the last week?

***

The BIGGEST STORY of the week, of course, is the one unfolding right now: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/763043.html

Idol contestants locked in a battle to the death!!!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

It’s strange to be happy to be losing “only” two people. Especially the two in question.

But given some of the other weeks, yeah, it’s a good thing. :)

[livejournal.com profile] banyangirl1832 has dropped and [livejournal.com profile] impoetry has byed out of the competition.

Both of them will definitely be missed, and hopefully they will be able to take advantage of Second Chance when it comes around.

As for the rest of you, we are losing the bottom two from each tribe!

So make sure to get out there, read, comment and vote for your favorites to keep them in the competition!

The poll closes Thursday, July 31st at 9pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

I'm back!

You can come out of your self-imposed exile, hiding from the terror of [livejournal.com profile] kithan. Now it's OK to come out and bask in the warmth and happiness that is me!

Or is that flee from the terror? It's one of those things!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kithan for only banning half of you. That was very generous of her.

The deadline IS TONIGHT, so all of you people dragging your feet to the point that if I hadn't extended the deadline, you would be in trouble, you had better get into gear! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/759800.html

(Granted, I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of those missing *would* have posted by the deadline, if I hadn't extended it. But some of those people are known for getting in just under the gun anyway, so I'm betting that they are just taking a little more time with their entries with that extra time.)

Vacation was great. Or rather, it was like three or four different vacations - since we went from the capitol of Ohio and city life to theme park life of Cedar Point, followed by a day trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to the middle of nowhere (where I am from) where we ended up behind/passing horses and buggies on the road.

How was YOUR week?

All you have to do is run through this brick wall....

Happy Saturday!

I regret to inform you that I had to lock up the cookies again.  He'll be back soon and we don't want him to suspect.  Cleaning crews will be in later to vacuum all the crumbs up.

Deadline is just over 24 hours away.  Write! Write! Write!

It's humid as all get out in WI today.  Yuck.  I just got back from the grocery store and feel like I need another shower.  Maybe after lunch.  I've set up an appetizer bar over there...  and a drink station of there... and video games and a library in the corner.

For those who are done.  Or procrastinating.  I'm an enabler.

I'm off to the couch to do some reading of my own.  Here are your handy links:

TGIF! TGIF!

Ok, that was too loud for someone with a headache 2 days running.  I really should call in sick but ... I have problems doing that.  Instead I procrastinate until I'm sure to be late.  Ha.

Your week of putting up with me is almost over.  I see you cheering.  You.  Over there.  In the corner.

Hurry!  Get your cookies now before it's too late!

Thursday!  We made it to Thursday!

That said...  your entries are due in 3 days!  Which is nice because it means [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm will have returned and I will have a few extra minutes in the morning that don't end up with me saying "Oh grap!  Green Room!"

Or attempting to be witty at ungodly hours.

However, I feel somewhat invested in you all now so this may mean I pay more attention than I have.

Hey, if you ever want entertainment, go into the archives and start at the beginning.  Seeing what this community and contest were in 2006 compared to what it is now....  amazing.  You will also see the evolution of me as tech support.  And all the times I screwed up the polls.  Good stuff.

Hump Day!  This is already the longest week ever.  No nightmare last night so that's a step in the right direction.

Which is good because I think the nightmare the other night caused me to sprain my pinky.  (If [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm reads this, he will do a little dance of joy.)

Department meeting today followed by work that will hopefully lead me to a promotion.  Yesterday I was pretending that I have money and looking at homes for sale in my town.  I should not have done this.

In other news, our fearless (?) leader lost a fight with Sandusky, OH yesterday.  Way to go Sandusky!  (He's OK...)

With that...  I am off to prepare for another day.  Keep crackin' on those entries!
