I'd like to thank Idol's Patron's - this week your continued support had a *direct* impact on this competition!

The money generated from our Patron group https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027&ty=h tends to go toward things like "paying for internet", and other indirect things that make things a lot easier to justify the time and effort that I'm not putting toward my family. ;)

This week though, something came up and being "in-between checks" it could have been *bad*. Not especially expensive, but more than I would have had on hand. (Which, regardless of the amount, "more than you have on hand" is "too much".)

It was when I was sick. I set my laptop down on the bed to go out of the room for a moment. I hadn't reached the door when I heard that dreaded BOOM sound and saw the laptop on the floor and one of my cats looking startled (and/or "I didn't do that! I'm just sitting here, in this spot, where I wasn't a few minutes ago. But I totally didn't do anything")

I checked out the laptop itself, and it was still working fine. (Whew!)

But it had been plugged in to the charger. The charger plug was completely bent, to the point that the act of pulling it out of the computer caused it to snap off.

The upshot being that I haven't had a way to charge my computer in a couple days, while I was waiting for a replacement to arrive. Again, thanks to our wonderful Patrons, I was able to order that replacement as well as get it shipped extra quickly.

Which is why I'll be able to post a poll tonight instead of having a paperweight and seeing if I could borrow a computer! A working charger is a "small thing", but knowing that Idol has the support that it does means everything.

So, while it was on my mind, I wanted to take a moment to say "Thank You".

I slept allll night, which, for reasons I won't go into, is kind of a miracle, actually.

Though I haven't gotten done the things I thought I'd do in the wee hours, like finish my entry.

And since I'm first, I brought the bacon, and hit "start" on the coffee pot.

Cats never do it. They are born with a "what, why are you looking at me?" expression that they know exactly when to use. It's uncanny. Dogs just sit there, scratch themselves, and look guilty.

I'm grateful that the week is basically over. Oh, and that I had a bye to use.

Like, I should find something else, but...

-Dad's in the hospital, he's not responding to the medication they put him on, and so they're keeping him til Sunday at least
-partner has some weird mystery illness (and pink eye)
-roommate has an pneumonia (found out last night)
-my sister has a massive heart defect and will be going in for surgery ASAP. She's also being sexually harassed on campus
-I feel pathetic even mentioning this but I'm still sick. not feverish anymore, but MAN have I got a good cough going :(

if anyone knows a wizard specializing in curse removal, send 'em my way. or, Hell, a witch or anyone. I'm pretty sure that's what I'm up against now. Only sort of half-kidding, because damn, what a run of bad luck.

I'm thankful for avocados, and for my team hauling me back into this craziness because it means I'm writing, and I'm thankful I ran into that weirdo in high school who started this whole thing!

This year is the first year in a decade where I've been put on the same calendar as the teachers at my school which means I've been off for two weeks. Before, I had vacation days, which I almost never used, which meant I basically worked 12 straight months for at least five years (I took week long vacations in December, setting aside hyperbole). This year, I had to take vacation time. I am so grateful for that.

What am I grateful for?

If I take a good, hard look at my life, I can only conclude that all along the way I've been surrounded by the best of the best, and it is my own shortcoming that I have not realized this all along the way.

In less than grateful news, I managed to completely delete my entry and spent the last few hour recreating it.

What happened was I wrote it all on Livejournal and hit post. It was then I realized that I'd lost my internet connection. When I hit "back" (figuring my entry would still exist there), my edit screen was totally blank. Apparently, I'd lost connection shortly after I started the piece.

So, let this be a cautionary tale for all of you. Don't do as I have done. Edit offline, paste online. Sigh.

We haven't had a cat kill a charger, but years ago our six-pound cat managed to leap for a garage shelf and mostly miss, which resulted in an empty steamer trunk hitting the hood of our brand new car. I'm glad the trunk was empty, but that dent has now been on the hood for 20 years! Thanks, kitty, you incompetent little n00b!
