Here we are, at the end of "The Week that would not end", staring down over the cliff of the Top 100, when Idol becomes a slalom on triple black diamond EX course. Or at least gets closer to that point.

We still have until tonight though to decide who it is that will be joining us in that Promised Land: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/763043.html

Based on what you've seen, who isn't getting the love that you feel their entry this week warrants?

Who are the "sleepers" of the competition? The gems that just haven't broken through the permafrost quite yet, but deserve the chance to grow into a gem tree?

I think we were at 107 when the vote opened this week, and 4 will be eliminated tonight.

I always worry when Gary says that shit's about to get real...

We're actually at 106 since Ohelectricshock sacrificed last week. Just FYI.

If we lose 4, we will be at 102. :)

A gem tree? …

I believe there is HUGE potential for injury in singling out names and entries and I hesitate to do it. However, looking over the polls, there is a writer who seems as though they could use a shout-out. Although I feel ridiculous in even assuming that someone may be in need of me shaking pom-poms, and who knows if my doing so may be wildly insulting, but

[livejournal.com profile] reckless_blues

is one of the finest writers I have ever read outside of published work. She possesses a scary dangerous intelligence, a subtle and brilliant imagination, and prose skills that are oftentimes breath-taking. She is consistently crafting new work each prompt. Her writing requires something from the reader and then delivers in bucket loads.

As the sage, Dita Von Teese, reminds us – “You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches.”

Seconding reckless_blues. Their work continually staggers me, and has for a long time.

He's one of my favorites, too -- thoughtful, but without losing the sense of movement.

Always a misstep. Is reckless_blues a guy then?

Now that I think of it, I'm not actually sure I've seen them say; it's just that some of their pieces (in prior LJIs) have felt like nonfiction and had a male protagonist.

I asked. (http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/764710.html?thread=75284774#t75284774)

Oh noes! We have to stop giving them away a week before I find out if need all of mine or not?

I'm sort of surprised [livejournal.com profile] malinaldarose isn't doing better in Tribe 2. I thought her piece was adorable! :)

I liked [livejournal.com profile] crimsonplum's, and they're doing pretty low in the poll.

Aww, thanks. And thanks for the mention...I checked the poll this morning and it kind of bummed me out. I know the piece is "sweet," but it's also really personal. Oh well...some weeks are like that!

"Sleepers"...[livejournal.com profile] icaruslived has consistently impressed me with his output. He's a solid writer who could usually use more love in the poll, and a stand-up friend. :)

Gearing up for another round of chemo so we were out all day getting blood work done. So far, I'm happy with my participation. The last few LJI seasons I've ended up leaving early because of health issues. I don't intend to do that no matter what happens this time.

Not to practice nepotism, but I think [livejournal.com profile] diagenou is one of the most improved writers here. When first I dragged him into this, his only goal was to be as snotty and obnoxious as possible. If he wasn't offending someone, he didn't think he'd done things right. This is his third time participating, I think (not including LJI Exhibit 1). I've watched him grow from a misanthropic ass into a man with a talent for telling stories which, while the may well be offensive, also display warmth, sympathy, and compassion.

It takes a lot for my man to open himself to strangers. LJI did that.
