Granted, you don't have to do a non-fiction entry... and the movie related topic can easily be made into talking about a book or any other piece of popular culture.

There's plenty of ways to twist and turn these things into whatever you want to make them. On the other hand, they are kind of specific.

But this is definitely a different kind of week. Or rather it's a different kind of week than most of the "new school" players have ever seen. Which makes it interesting to me.

How are you going to make yourself stand out?

Oh, thank God! *relieved sigh* I left my writing skills for non-fiction essays back in high school, especially on serious subjects. Yikes.

Of course, none of the characters in my head are piping up, so I may end up writing an essay anyway. TALK, PEOPLE. TALK!

Well, if we can do non-fiction that makes it a littttlle bit better. Still, ugh. Well, I need time to knead the the brain.....off to let my subconscious stew..

I'm an old timer and a non-fiction fan, but still, these topics pretty much suck. (no offense, fellow contestants who submitted them, but ugh.)

I have been generally leaning towards non fiction lately ... but these topics .. relevant maybe ...but scampering for inspiration ...

How becoming used to something can impact your outlook.

Yeah, I think that one could bend the other way, too. How the media throws the word "terrorist" around to amp the sensationalism. Then there's the whole gun violence thing and how a school shooting is or isn't labeled terrorism. And, more recently, the whole OR gunslingers who have taken over a bird sanctuary and how they're not terrorists, but would they be if they were Muslim? And how can you end up dying in jail over not using a blinker (if you drive while black) but you can go in armed at the bird place and the authorities are all, "So when do you think you'll be done in there?"

Am I allowed to comment even if I'm not in this game?

I'm really curious about why it changed from non-fiction to fiction. You mentioned in the topic post that you know why because you saw it happening, but the change was well underway by the time I participated.

I actually had fiction piece ideas come jumping in way more quickly for these twisty topics than I did for last week's batch. My prognostication (worth exactly what you're paying for it): well over half of the contestants write some type of fiction this week anyway.

(I kinda like the change in pace.)

Could be me. I have friends who could hold forth on these topics, but not me. Although it annoys me on principle when the price is something .96 and I lose four cents.

I have never written non- fiction for LJ except for Introduction that is..so this is an interesting challenge...but then since my mind always leans towards fiction by hook or crook, you never know.

I've written non-fiction quite often in past seasons of LJI, but that was always when the prompt reminded me of a specific incident from my past... but frequently, my mind would re-interpret the prompt in an unusual way.

My problem isn't so much that these prompts are all for non-fiction pieces, but rather that the prompts are all rather specific in nature; I feel like I've been shackled right now...

Oh man. Unless I'm 1) doing an intersection or 2) being held at gunpoint, I tend to not write fiction. Maybe it's because I just enjoy being a contrarian combo breaker, maybe it's because I've already got so much ridiculous nonfiction batshit in my life and brain I don't really feel inspired to make up more. Probably both, honestly. And I've so got an idea for one of these topics. Not necessarily a good idea, mind you! But an idea. We'll see how quickly it goes south in a handbasket.

Oh, I have a movie, and it's a doozy! I'm going to let this idea percolate a bit, though, to figure out how I want to approach this.
