You are sitting in a restaurant, having a nice meal. Hopefully, some good conversation as well.

There is a crashing noise and everyone in the place turns to see the server who dropped something that shattered against the floor, and your concentration.

You heard something, you look up to see what's going on. Maybe you watch for a bit, trying to figure out what happened. Heck, maybe you saw the whole thing go down.

Or maybe you go back to your meal, and to your conversation, once you realize that it wasn't anything major.

Or you slow down to see just how bad the accident was, saying to yourself maybe it was someone you know. . . or you let yourself to by it, wishing them the best and hoping that the professionals on the scene are able to help them.

Maybe someone yells "Fire" in a crowded chat room. You look around, trying to find it, before realizing "Oh yeah, I'm on the internet!"

Because that gets your attention right away. Something with noise and a dramatic flair to it. The red sports car of every day life.

You look at them, you take them in. Why? I don't know. Maybe it makes folks feel better about their own lot. Maybe it makes them feel alive, or real, or whatever the latest thing to feel is these days!

But while you are doing that, there's a good meal on the table in front of you, and plenty of other servers who aren't dropping things.

There are people ahead of you driving just fine, and so are the ones behind you - although they really wish you wouldn't gawk, they have places to go after all.

There are 99 other things that have been said in that chatroom, and some of them were quite complimentary.

So, with the deadline to poll to close happening this evening http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/517954.html who is pulling out the stops, but not (yet) hearing the roar of the crowd?

What an interesting week.

No, make that "interesting", as in the Chinese curse.

But now it's over, and we can get onto a new topic, and a new week!

First though, we have our usual "good news, bad news" segment. Easily the worst part of the week, and given that the two people leaving us this week are both beloved veterans, there's a little bit of extra sting that you have when you have had a chance to know folks a little better.

Did I say "two"? Yes, I did.

I'll explain that in a minute.

First, the good news - which partially explains the situation now that I think about it. The announcement of who received a "Bouncing Immunity" this week:

rattsu and alephz both gave their immunities to [livejournal.com profile] sonophax
everywordiwrite had two immunities to give away, and they went to [livejournal.com profile] banyangirl1832 and [livejournal.com profile] dblicher (which saved them from a tie-breaker)
similiesslip gave hers to [livejournal.com profile] marjory
autumn_writing to [livejournal.com profile] seratonation (which saved them from elimination)
basric gave immunity to [livejournal.com profile] diagenou
tough_doll did it for [livejournal.com profile] createdestiny
and spydielives decided to give immunity to [livejournal.com profile] superhappytime

Congratulations all of you.

I said there were two individuals going, and that was because there ended up being two sets of ties in Tribes 3 and 4, this week. Which means there is a new Redemption Tribe forming next week, consisting of: annaonthemoon, kehlen_crow, crimsonplum, lynxypoo, mymisguided, sikander7 and yuniebaby - where they will have another shot to save themselves, and stay in the hunt.

Unfortunately, there are two who will not have that chance. They have been eliminated this week.

Goodbye to

I'm really glad that both of them came out again this season, and I hope that we will continue to see them around. I don't need to say it, but I feel funny not reminding them (so I totally will) that you never know what is going to happen, and they just might get another shot to get back into the competition!

Open Topic.

Oh yes. I just said that. ;)

For those who of you who don't know what that it, it's exactly what you think it is - in the world of Idol there really aren't any restrictions on how you approach a given topic. But this time, there isn't even a topic. Go where you want. Explore what you need to explore.

I want to see what you are capable of once you are let off the leash and told to run.

I want to see your A-game. Bring it.

The deadline to link your entries back to this thread is Monday Jan 23rd at 9pm EST

Have fun!

It's an Open Topic week. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/519270.html

Are you approaching this in any differently you approach every other week? Why or why not?

What comes to mind?

When it's a normal topic week, you often see several people going at it from the same angle. How are you going to make sure that you don't end up doing that in Open Topic?

What are you going to do to stand out in the crowd, and make sure you are heard over the noise of whatever nonsense might try to get in the way?
