Good evening.

The head-to-head battle to the literary death matches have taken place and the smoke has cleared. All that remains is naming who is joining the Jury, and who is going forth to take a shot at winning the crown.

Regardless of the outcome, we knew we would be losing some talented people. So it's not much of a surprise that seeing the names here is going to sting. But that's where we are, and where we will be for the rest of this mini season as it plays out. Every week is going to take us one step closer to the end, and one heartbreak after another.

From the main competition - leaving us is

[personal profile] codenamewanderlust

and from the Second Chance, it is

[personal profile] blue_velvet

Thank you so much to both of you for coming out this mini season. I've really been enjoying your writing, and I know a lot of others feel the same way. You certainly gave them a difficult choice.

***

This means that [personal profile] babydramatic_1950  is claiming the final spot and joining the main competition.  Congratulations!

It’s a Write-off poolza!

2 polls.  1 person will be eliminated from each of them.

The Second Chance poll will decide who gets a shot to be in the main competition.

The main competition poll decides who gets to survive another day.

Both of them are Contestants Only. Which means you will email me your votes.

The Second Chance poll is
https://babydramatic-1950.dreamwidth.org/2663.html
vs
https://blue-velvet.dreamwidth.org/1334.html

The main competition poll is

https://kimschlotwrites.dreamwidth.org/4001.html
https://murielle.dreamwidth.org/6533.html

The polls close Monday Jan 21st at 9pm EST.

Good luck to everyone!

There were two polls, but I'm only going to make one Results post. Because this is the big one. The one that everyone has been waiting to see how it was going to turn out.

And besides, this week had unexpected results in both polls. So we might as well just put all the "Wha..." responses all in one place.

We're start with the main competition, since that is also where we are going to end, and might as well make things circular.

Once again, I asked for the Jury for their picks for who would receive immunity this week, and once again, it was really close. This time it came down to *a single vote*. That's the theme of the mini season after all. Those close calls and the one vote that either came in, or didn't. In this case, that one vote gave someone immunity - and changed this week's results for a second week in a row.

Congratulations to kehlen- who received this week's immunity, who was actually on the chopping block this week. This means they survive another round.

Leaving us this week from the main competition and joining the jury is

the always great [personal profile] megatronix

who will definitely be missed.

Thanks to the immunity, we also have a 3-way tie for that second spot between [personal profile] codenamewanderlust , [personal profile] kimschlotwrites  and [personal profile] murielle . Which means there will be a Sudden Death Write-Off to determine who will be leaving us. More on that later.

Now for Second Chance, they had their own unexpected results. The people joining the Jury are:

[personal profile] alycewilson
[personal profile] oxymoron67
[personal profile] reidharriscooper
[personal profile] stellinas

I'm really sorry to be losing you, but I hope that we will be continuing to see you around with the Home Game, the Green Room and of course in your role as the Jury that is helping to shape how this all plays out.

Those joining the main competition, and in the hunt to win it all are

[personal profile] dmousey
[personal profile] itsjust_c
[personal profile] spilledink562 [personal profile] wolfden
[personal profile] yachiru

There are two names who are missing. Because they tied. Which means that the final spot, that last shot at getting into the main competition is coming down to a one-on-one literary slug fest between
[personal profile] babydramatic_1950  and [personal profile] blue_velvet ! It's another Sudden Death Write-Off!

***

For those in the Write-Offs, here are your instructions. It's Open Topic. Meaning you can write whatever you want.
You have until tomorrow, Sunday Jan 20th at 9pm EST to link your entries back to the dedicated thread below.

Have fun!

A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

I told our Second Chance contestants that this was an Open Topic - that they could write anything they wanted. I told them that this was their final shot at making it into the competition, and that they needed to “bring it”.

Yeah, they brought it.

I’m sad though that we are going to be losing so many in the process of making that final cut.

There are 11 contestants vying for 6 spots. 5 when you consider the use of the Golden Ticket. I told people those would be valuable, and sure enough, it’s proven to be so.

Which means, when you read the entries, keep in mind that 5 of these people are moving forward, and 5 are not. I’m glad that I vote for everyone, because I would hate to be the one making that choice.

(the 5 eliminated will become a part of the Jury, but I’m sure they would rather be continuing to fight for a shot.)

The poll closes Saturday Jan 19th at 8pm EST.

Good luck to everyone!

It's the FINAL week of Second Chance.

Just one more time to go to the well and come out with some magic before you are competing against the rest of the field, already in progress.

Which is why this is an

Open Topic.

There's no set topic, just bring your A-game and write whatever you want to write. Just make it awesome!

The deadline to link your entry back to this thread is Tuesday, Jan 15th at 7pm EST.

Have fun!

I knew coming in that Second Chance was going to be brutal.

It's living up to expectations, with difficult decisions being made every week.

This week was no different. The one "saving grace" of it is that everyone leaving us from this week on will be joining the Jury. Including members of Second Chance. So they might not be in the game, but they *will* be helping to shape the rest of this season.

If I don't already have your address - make sure to send it to me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com so that I can make sure you are on the Jury emails.

So instead of saying "leaving us", I will say "Joining the Jury".

It sounds better and makes it easier.

Our newest Jury members are:

[personal profile] adoptedwriter
[personal profile] flyingsockpuppet
[personal profile] tjoel2
[personal profile] zaichikarky

Thank you so much for coming out. I really appreciate it, and I hope that we will continue to be abe to read your work in the Home Game. (and I'll see you on the Jury!)

A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

There are “bad words” in the English language. Things you shouldn’t say in “polite company”.

But since circumstances call for them right now, and since you are hardly what would be considered “polite company”, I can say them -[personal profile] sorchawench has dropped out of Second Chance due to RL.

Those are very bad, and sad, words. I’m sorry that I had to use them. I hope you made sure there were no children in the room.

I hope we will see her in the Home Game.

As for the rest of you - you know the drill.

There’s a poll. You read the entries. You comment. You vote for as many of them as you feel like supporting.

There are 15 contestants who are still standing. We will be losing the bottom 4 contenders.

The poll closes Saturday Jan 12th at 9pm EST.

Good luck to everyone!

The results from Week 1 are now official, so the group trying to fight their way into the main competition gets a little smaller.

This week the topic is also kind of straight forward. But there are plenty of twists to be had, depending on how you choose to interpret the word.

What is it?

It's

Shade

There were 22 brave souls who wandered into this realm, hoping for a Second Chance.

Goodbye to our friends:

Thank you for coming out, and I hope that whatever hiccups you have experienced in the New Year quickly even themselves out. I hope you stick around to cheer on your favorites, both in Second Chances and in the main competition.

As for the rest of you - the there are 19 contestants remaining, each writing on “First Impressions”.
Read the entries. Comment on them. (Everyone loves feedback!) Vote for your favorites! You can cast votes for as many as you feel like supporting! Voting is open to everyone with a DW, LJ and/or Open Source account. One vote per physical body please. :)

The poll will close on Friday Jan 4th at 9pm EST.  We will be losing the bottom 3.

If you are signed up for Second Chance, it's time for your first topic!

Those in the regular competition, rest up another 24 hours or so!

***

They say you never another shot to make a first impression. But this time, you do!

It's Second Chance, so what better way to start things off than to have to topic be:

First Impression

***

For those who have never done this before. That bolded bit "First Impression" is your topic. That doesn't mean "When I read that the topic was first impression, I thought that..." ;)

It's your creative jumping off point. Use it and go in whatever direction your writing takes you in!

Come up with your idea, write it in your own DW/LJ/Open Source blog space - and then link that post back here!

Your deadline to complete this is Tuesday Jan 1st at 7pm EST. Start the New Year off right!

Have fun!

Most of the people seeing this post are going to already be familiar with Idol and what is going on here.

Just in case someone sent you this link and said "You should sign up!", here's a rundown of what's going on:

This is LJ Idol: Literary Prize Fight.  It's a "pop up" of the online writing competition that usually takes place over on Livejournal.

I will post a "topic" (it's basically a prompt to use as a launching pad to take it wherever you feel like taking it). You write something over at your own DW/LJ/Open Source blog.  Then you post it back to that topic post before announced deadline.

Then there is usually a poll (unless it's a special week, but let's get to that some other time) and people vote for their favorite entries. The ones with the fewest votes leaves and the rest fight it out another week.  Eventually there are only a couple contestants left and they fight it out to decide a winner!  In this specific mini season, there is a twist where there is actually prize money that is going to be split between the Final Four!

Which brings us to Second Chance.  Maybe you were one of those people who were previously eliminated.  Or had to drop out in a previous round.

Perhaps you are someone who, as I said, just received a link from a friend or acquaintance who suggested that you sign up! This is your Second Chance to correct that mistake of having missed your shot to sign up at the beginning!

This specific post is for one purpose only - for you to sign up to play!

Go to your space - your DW account/LJ/Open Source blog and post something about how you want to sign up for Second Chance Idol.  That's it. You can literally just post those words.
Then come back to this post and put a link to that post in the comments!

That's all you need to do.  The first topic won't be until Wednesday, December 26th.  There will be a thread marked "Topic 1 - Second Chance Idol".  It will also be tagged, if you are the sort who subscribe to tags. (If not, just show up on that day and look for the post)

If you have any questions - please go to the nearest Green Room - or email me directly at clauderainsrm@gmail.com

Sign-ups are open until the deadline of the first entry.  So if you want to jump back into the pool (or jump into it for the first time) - Welcome!

The race to enter the main competition will get tighter every week.

This week's topic is

Front Porch

The deadline to link your entries back to this thread is Tuesday, March 14th at 8pm EDT If you need a space to discuss ideas, feel free to use the current Work Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989672.html

Were you eliminated from Season 10 and wish you had one more shot?

Did you miss the original sign-up sheet and wish you could take part?

Are you literally just hearing about LJ Idol *right now* and think "I could do that!"

This is your shot.

If you know someone who you think would love competing this season - now is your chance to drag them in!

It's appropriate it being doing this now, because *I* just was given another shot at life long happiness - and what is Idol if not "lifelong happiness"? ;)

If you want to take part, just create a post in your LJ/Open Access blog/whatever you want to use to compete and post a link to it in the comments below. I will be answering any questions you have in the Work Room (or Green Rooms). Please only post your links here.

Second Chance will run alongside the main competition, eliminating folks as we go, until a certain number of them will survive the SCI experience and (re)enter the main competition, already in progress. It's shorter, it's deadlier, and there are no byes. But it's your last, and best shot at getting back into the fray!

So sign up today!!

Sign-ups are open until Tuesday, Feb 28th at 8pm EST
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

4 contestants have stepped up in this Week 1 (of 4), to fight for a chance to get back into the competition!

They had 24 hours to write, and about 48 to be judged!

The poll closes Thursday, Feb 18th at 9pm EST.

The 1 with the most votes will return to LJ Idol: Friends and Rivals, effective immediately.

The others who don’t - better luck next week!

Good luck to everyone!

[Poll #2037061]
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
If you have been eliminated this mini-season (or missed your chance to get involved), now is your chance!

Unlike in the past, this will be a week-to-week adventure for the next couple of weeks. You won't get "voted out", you can only get "voted in".

But once you are, then you will need to meet the current week's deadline.

It's an "Open Topic", which means that you can write anything you want!

The deadline to submit your entry, for the first Second Chance shot, is tomorrow, Feb 16th at 9pm EST

Have fun!

As you may know, one of the special powers in play was something called "Pandora's Box". It was selected by [livejournal.com profile] roina_arwen who was in a position where she needed to give it to someone else to use. She wasn't even allowed to know what was inside it before handing it over.

So, a box filled with some sort of power, that you hand over to someone else in the game.

The person she chose to put that responsibility on was [livejournal.com profile] theun4givables.

Once the box opened, she discovered that it was the power to bring 0-10 contestants into the game! This would become effective as of the end of Week 10. Meaning - as of the results post, the following contestants are now in LJ IDOL!!

Welcome to:

Congratulations! To those of you re-entering the game, welcome back! :)

The topic for the week is http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/744758.html and the Work Room (a space for you to bounce ideas on what to write with your fellow writers) is at: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/745010.html

Keep in mind that, entering the game, you are NOT given byes. If you miss a week, you will be eliminated. That said, I hope you are ready to have some fun!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It’s your Second Chance.

Which means there are no intersections, just that one more shot to make things right - and hopefully get back into the competition!

You do, on the other hand, have a choice of topics.

They are:

Look out
and
mistakes

Choose wisely, and more importantly, knock our socks off. We don’t really like these socks anyway. We won’t miss them!

The deadline to link your entries back here is Monday June 3rd at 9pm EDT
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
No one likes this time of week. As if Mondays weren’t bad enough on their own, having them also be eliminations just makes it that much worse.

There is a bit of good news, tucked into the darkness, but I’ll save that for the end.

First we have the bad news - the results for Second Chance. Leaving us our some old favorites, talented newbies and the love story of our mini-season!

Thank you to all of you for coming out and playing. I hope you stick around and Home Game!

As for the main competition, there are 8 contestants, in addition to the two who missed the submission deadline that will be joining the ranks of SCI.

They are:

[livejournal.com profile] alephz
[livejournal.com profile] baxaphobia
[livejournal.com profile] dreamsreflected
[livejournal.com profile] heeroluva
[livejournal.com profile] myrna_bird
[livejournal.com profile] rattsu
[livejournal.com profile] theun4givables
[livejournal.com profile] welf

[livejournal.com profile] rattsu has let me know that she will need to drop out, due to “real life” being, well real life.

Which means that she did not live to see what everyone else is about to see...

As of the moment that this is posted, Second Chance Idol is done. Over. Kaput. No more chances.

If you have survived Second Chance Idol, congratulations - you are now back in the game!

No more safety nets. From now on, it’s for keeps!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

There comes a point where it’s not longer apt to say that it “got real”. Because it was always real. And, if somehow it wasn’t, it would have become real long before now.

But this is a big week though. I think we can say that without any hesitation. Well, you can. I would probably have quite a bit hesitation if I were saying it! Thankfully though, I’m writing it. Which means that it will come out fluently!

We do have some business to handle. Both [livejournal.com profile] mc_lji and [livejournal.com profile] talonkarrde88 have succumb to the evil powers of the LJ Sisterhood, dropping from the ranks of the main competition into the thankless dregs of Second Chance Idol, never to be heard from again. Unless of course, you happen to check out that poll. In which case, there’s a chance you will see them!

Which means of course our 20 remaining contestants have now become 18, and 8 more contestants will be joining them when this poll closes!!

That’s taking out half of the field in one vote! So you had better make sure to get out and support your favorites by reading, commenting, voting - and telling others to do the same!

The poll will close Monday, March 11th at 10pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

We have some bad news in Second Chance Idol as well. I mean other than being the unforgiving dregs, which you already knew.

Two people missed the deadline: [livejournal.com profile] alien_writings and [livejournal.com profile] everywordiwrite. Two incredible writers, who will very much be missed.

There was also one person who emailed me to let me know that she was dropping out that I wanted to single-out in a mention: [livejournal.com profile] turnerwolf. I wanted to make sure to acknowledge her, not only as a talented newbie but also as someone that I hope will stick around as part of the Idol family. After all, once you are in, you’re in. :)

I was nervous that her entries weren’t going to get read, due to the font size and color scheme on her LJ. That sort of thing can definitely turn off some readers. But once she fixed those things, it felt like people were finally starting to see what I had noticed right off. It’s sad to see her go, but hopefully it’s a “see you later!” situation.

Anyway, before I get too sappy - there are still eliminations to handle. You look at the numbers, and it’s pretty easy to figure out how many are leaving us this time around... that’s right 10!

The poll closes Monday, March 11th at 10pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!
