Good evening.

The head-to-head battle to the literary death matches have taken place and the smoke has cleared. All that remains is naming who is joining the Jury, and who is going forth to take a shot at winning the crown.

Regardless of the outcome, we knew we would be losing some talented people. So it's not much of a surprise that seeing the names here is going to sting. But that's where we are, and where we will be for the rest of this mini season as it plays out. Every week is going to take us one step closer to the end, and one heartbreak after another.

There were two polls, but I'm only going to make one Results post. Because this is the big one. The one that everyone has been waiting to see how it was going to turn out.

And besides, this week had unexpected results in both polls. So we might as well just put all the "Wha..." responses all in one place.

We're start with the main competition, since that is also where we are going to end, and might as well make things circular.

Once again, I asked for the Jury for their picks for who would receive immunity this week, and once again, it was really close. This time it came down to *a single vote*. That's the theme of the mini season after all. Those close calls and the one vote that either came in, or didn't. In this case, that one vote gave someone immunity - and changed this week's results for a second week in a row.

Congratulations to kehlen- who received this week's immunity, who was actually on the chopping block this week. This means they survive another round.

I told our Second Chance contestants that this was an Open Topic - that they could write anything they wanted. I told them that this was their final shot at making it into the competition, and that they needed to “bring it”.

Yeah, they brought it.

I’m sad though that we are going to be losing so many in the process of making that final cut.

There are 11 contestants vying for 6 spots. 5 when you consider the use of the Golden Ticket. I told people those would be valuable, and sure enough, it’s proven to be so.

Which means, when you read the entries, keep in mind that 5 of these people are moving forward, and 5 are not. I’m glad that I vote for everyone, because I would hate to be the one making that choice.

(the 5 eliminated will become a part of the Jury, but I’m sure they would rather be continuing to fight for a shot.)

I knew coming in that Second Chance was going to be brutal.

It's living up to expectations, with difficult decisions being made every week.

This week was no different. The one "saving grace" of it is that everyone leaving us from this week on will be joining the Jury. Including members of Second Chance. So they might not be in the game, but they *will* be helping to shape the rest of this season.

If I don't already have your address - make sure to send it to me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com so that I can make sure you are on the Jury emails.

So instead of saying "leaving us", I will say "Joining the Jury".

But since circumstances call for them right now, and since you are hardly what would be considered “polite company”, I can say them -sorchawench has dropped out of Second Chance due to RL.

Those are very bad, and sad, words. I’m sorry that I had to use them. I hope you made sure there were no children in the room.

Most of the people seeing this post are going to already be familiar with Idol and what is going on here.

Just in case someone sent you this link and said "You should sign up!", here's a rundown of what's going on:

This is LJ Idol: Literary Prize Fight. It's a "pop up" of the online writing competition that usually takes place over on Livejournal.

I will post a "topic" (it's basically a prompt to use as a launching pad to take it wherever you feel like taking it). You write something over at your own DW/LJ/Open Source blog. Then you post it back to that topic post before announced deadline.

Then there is usually a poll (unless it's a special week, but let's get to that some other time) and people vote for their favorite entries. The ones with the fewest votes leaves and the rest fight it out another week. Eventually there are only a couple contestants left and they fight it out to decide a winner! In this specific mini season, there is a twist where there is actually prize money that is going to be split between the Final Four!

Which brings us to Second Chance. Maybe you were one of those people who were previously eliminated. Or had to drop out in a previous round.

Perhaps you are someone who, as I said, just received a link from a friend or acquaintance who suggested that you sign up! This is your Second Chance to correct that mistake of having missed your shot to sign up at the beginning!

This specific post is for one purpose only - for you to sign up to play!

Go to your space - your DW account/LJ/Open Source blog and post something about how you want to sign up for Second Chance Idol. That's it. You can literally just post those words.
Then come back to this post and put a link to that post in the comments!

That's all you need to do. The first topic won't be until Wednesday, December 26th. There will be a thread marked "Topic 1 - Second Chance Idol". It will also be tagged, if you are the sort who subscribe to tags. (If not, just show up on that day and look for the post)

As you may know, one of the special powers in play was something called "Pandora's Box". It was selected by

roina_arwen who was in a position where she needed to give it to someone else to use. She wasn't even allowed to know what was inside it before handing it over.

So, a box filled with some sort of power, that you hand over to someone else in the game.

The person she chose to put that responsibility on was

Once the box opened, she discovered that it was the power to bring 0-10 contestants into the game! This would become effective as of the end of Week 10. Meaning - as of the results post, the following contestants are now in LJ IDOL!!

There comes a point where it’s not longer apt to say that it “got real”. Because it was always real. And, if somehow it wasn’t, it would have become real long before now.

But this is a big week though. I think we can say that without any hesitation. Well, you can. I would probably have quite a bit hesitation if I were saying it! Thankfully though, I’m writing it. Which means that it will come out fluently!

We do have some business to handle. Both mc_lji and talonkarrde88 have succumb to the evil powers of the LJ Sisterhood, dropping from the ranks of the main competition into the thankless dregs of Second Chance Idol, never to be heard from again. Unless of course, you happen to check out that poll. In which case, there’s a chance you will see them!

Which means of course our 20 remaining contestants have now become 18, and 8 more contestants will be joining them when this poll closes!!

That’s taking out half of the field in one vote! So you had better make sure to get out and support your favorites by reading, commenting, voting - and telling others to do the same!

We have some bad news in Second Chance Idol as well. I mean other than being the unforgiving dregs, which you already knew.

Two people missed the deadline: alien_writings and everywordiwrite. Two incredible writers, who will very much be missed.

There was also one person who emailed me to let me know that she was dropping out that I wanted to single-out in a mention: turnerwolf. I wanted to make sure to acknowledge her, not only as a talented newbie but also as someone that I hope will stick around as part of the Idol family. After all, once you are in, you’re in. :)

I was nervous that her entries weren’t going to get read, due to the font size and color scheme on her LJ. That sort of thing can definitely turn off some readers. But once she fixed those things, it felt like people were finally starting to see what I had noticed right off. It’s sad to see her go, but hopefully it’s a “see you later!” situation.

Anyway, before I get too sappy - there are still eliminations to handle. You look at the numbers, and it’s pretty easy to figure out how many are leaving us this time around... that’s right 10!
