Work Room - Week 27
Oct. 30th, 2014 11:12 pmThe new topic is up. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/800348.html
For those just coming out of Last Chance Idol, it's a familiar feeling of "What do I write now?"
For the rest of you, there hasn't been an Open Topic since (*looks*) Week 13. Which means you've had plenty of time to think of something good.
And, under these circumstances - it had better be! ;)
No pressure or anything - but the group is now completely together. No more additions - only subtractions. One of you *is* going to win this thing.
What are some of the ideas that you have been holding in reserve, just in case - and how are you going to break out of this tight pack to showcase your work, while at the same time, trying to hold yourself together?

Didn't you get the memo?

Date: 2014-10-31 03:35 am (UTC)I DO keep a spreadsheet of ideas for stories I want to write, both from my life and family, as well as fiction, but, whether or not I write any of them often depends on whether or not I'm "feeling it." If I've got a notion, and a head to continue with, I'm guessing I should just push into that full steam ahead, and maybe for once not be pressing too hard against the deadline.
a couple additional questions
Date: 2014-10-31 03:41 am (UTC)- What trends do you see in writing, and what do you think about them? (the one that popped immediately to mind was how Gonzo Journalism/personality-based writing became blogging and how that has exploded into "new journalism". But I'm sure there are others - drabs, etc)
- Who inspires you?

Date: 2014-10-31 03:45 am (UTC)However, since I've been doing this (off and on) since Week 1 of Season 4, with the occasional tiebreaker thrown in... according to my spreadsheet (not including HG topics or "Week 0" topics) I've written a total of 147 entries. (If you include Home Game entries, that would make six more)
THAT'S A LOT, DUDE.

Date: 2014-10-31 05:08 am (UTC)- Memoirs. All the fucking memoirs. Some of them are really good, but does everyone need to have a memoir?
- Books based on blogs, but I guess that's not so much different from how all the funny-columnist writers had their own books in the 80s (maybe before, too, but that's when I was alive to remember it). If I like blog, and you're not just compiling the same stuff you already put on your blog, I'm cool with it. But I rarely buy the blog-books.
- I was wondering the other day how certain literary authors of the recent past would do today if they were just starting out. I mean, in a world where 50 Shades is a thing...
Inspiration:
In real life? My friends - the ones who take the time to read and tell me what they love and what they don't and why and remind me to get over myself when I get all "tortured artist." Because seriously. Also the ones who write and are a million times more motivated than I am or have harder/busier lives than me and write amazing stuff anyway.
In what I read? Everything. Even the bad stuff inspires me.

Date: 2014-10-31 05:34 am (UTC)Just sayin.
2. Topics off the top of my head because I don't have to think of them anymore:
Get off my lawn
Electric lemonade
Just doing it for the money
Olly Olly Oxen Free
When the pressure's off
3. Trends - People farming wikipedia for random facts and then posting "WOW AMAZING!" articles on click bait sites.
People "publishing" really really really bad "novels" on Amazon for four bucks because they can.
4. ::grumbles at
5. I need a novel idea before Saturday.
6. Why doesn't memoir end in an e?
