We watched Poltergeist last night. It was the first time in years that I'd seen it (and the 9-year old had never seen it), and I had forgotten that it all boils down to one important lesson: Demons want friends too. Why couldn't they have just let that little girl hang out with her friend the demon, and all of those spirits?

Some parents are just greedy!

It got pretty creepy when I went on Wikipedia to find out what happened with the sequels, and found out what happened to the two girls!

Oh, and Happy Mother's Day! Idol appreciates all the Mothers out there who messed their kids up to the point that they decided "I'm going to do that Idol thing!"

I literally laughed out loud at that last line and will be sharing it with my mother who would love to play idol if she could just learn how he internet works.

I'm spending the day cleaning things up and pretending it's just another Sunday. My mom passed away four years ago and today's kind of hard. At least tonight I'm going out for dinner with my dad, which I'm excited about. Little things! Also, reccing reckless_blues' entry; it's amazingly gorgeous.

Hope everyone else is having a wonderful day!

Also *hugs*. My husband is the oldest of five, and their mother died a few months before I met him, so it's a heavy day around here too. *more hugs*

Hahahaha, your Mother's Day comment. That is so true for me it's not even funny. But I'm laughing anyway.

Anyway, trying to make myself work on my book chapter (this rewrite is going soooooo slowly) and adjust to my meds increase and All The Feels and not have a pity party because It All Feels So Real and Everything Hurts.

Oh, and I should probably stay away from the GR right now because that would be much more conducive to writing. Although most people are probably out with their moms now, so fewer distractions?

I love my mother, but I don't know that I'm ready for her to read anything I've written about her, my family, or, indeed, myself on Idol. I need to think about that.

I am enjoying a lazy Mother's Day and my first day of the end of the academic year. I work year round, but the absence of students and grading makes for a much different sort of experience.

I fought the cold and the cold won, so we're going to the grocery store (the fancy one, with good bread and a cheese shop) and buying treats and then taking the kids to the pool instead of trying to do a Big Mother's day Thing.

Also! I'm taking over the actual office in our house, the one with a DOOR. Hopefully, this will translate into increased productivity since I've got a novel to finish and another one to start before the end of the year. I've already moved my chairs down and put my inspirational poster on the wall, I just need to get all my husband's junk cleaned out and claim the space as MINE. :)

I suppose I'll call my mother later today.

I took my PPI about 15 minutes or so ago? So I'll eating soon, and then taking a shower, and then...

I meant to get started on the new Sims story yesterday, but then the spousal person told me a library book was due really soon so I spent the day finishing it instead. And now - I still want to write, but I also want to research some stuff.

Do you guys ever make acquaintances on the internet with people who like your writing, and you get along for a bit and they seem pretty cool, but then they reveal something that makes you step back and go "Whoa"?

So then you're confronted with all kinds of issues, like if you're stereotyping people and prejudiced, or if they really are bad people who somehow got past your initial bad person radar sweep, or whatever. Also you're kind of surprised that they liked your work in the first place.

I don't know. In the current situation of that sort, I wonder if maybe it's just ignorance and lack of thought?

Date: 2013-05-12 04:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kathrynrose.livejournal.com
That happens off the internet, too. I mean, we're all complex people and we all put our best face forward for people, and we tend to assume that when people like some of the things we like, then of course they like all of the things we like. And sometimes the differences are no big deal, and sometimes they're, "Wait. What?"

I vividly remember in college, while (let's call it) snuggling with my (person who would nine years later become my first ex), finding out in pillow talk that she voted for Reagan.

I remember getting out of bed and not being able to think straight for several minutes. I mean, I knew she was a business major, but...

I very nearly said, "Get out of my bed." I talked myself out of doing that, but honestly, the next nine years of my life would probably have been a lot nicer if I had listened to myself that day.

Tangents. I haz them.

Poultrygeist is oddly in keeping with what's going on in my house right now. My husband and I are getting in a little computer time before we head for the park as a family. With our spare hands, we are each playing with a plastic Fisher Price farm animal that KFP handed us, asking us to join his "Farm Party."

My spousebeast gave me a very sweet card and 2 handwritten (highlighter on 3x5 cards) coupons: one to have my Sarah Brightman cds put into the Rock N Roll Dice, and one for unlimited shenanigans today.

To explain, when we roll to see what cd we're listening to, each person gets to call shenanigans once a day. If Beastie Boys gets rolled at 7am (and it has happened), I can call shenanigans and get to roll again.

Of course, today would be the day we've been getting good rolls. Go figure. ;)

Talking to mom today was...yeah. Mom on her 3rd glass of chardonnay (after chauferring my grandparents to Mass, brunch, the grocery store and Walmart, I'm surprised it wasn't quaaludes) is hysterical. And she was watching 'Gypsy.' *shakes head* She played Mama Rose and I was--surprise, surprise--Gypsy Rose Lee in a community theatre production back when I was in high school. She COMPLETELY misses the irony of this.

But I still love her. Happy Mother's Day.

Poltergeist--ugh. I saw that when I was little (like 7 or something) while I was spending the night at my aunt's neighbor's town because she had to work the night shift and my parents were away for the weekend for their anniversary. I had no idea what the movie was and didn't want to be the "baby" while we watched (the neighbors had like 5 kids plus my younger brother and older cousin were there) so I made it through the whole thing.

I blame that movie for my clown aversion. Every time I see a clown I flashback to that scene in the movie with the clown under the bed. *shivers*

I did not sleep for days after that. Even as an adult I leave the room during the clown scene.

My Mother's Day is actually going well. Normally my family doesn't celebrate because that means my husband and kids have to do something for someone else instead of me doing everything for them but this year they made me breakfast in bed (first time ever in my life for me), got me flowers (only the 3rd time my husband has gotten me flowers in the 14 years we've been together), cleaned up the house, did laundry and my husband is cooking steak for dinner. Normally I end up having to cook anyway but he's taking care of it this time.

And yesterday we went on a family outing and all 5 of my kids actually behaved and allowed me to take a million pictures including family portraits. That hasn't happened since they were little. It's all kind of making my head swirl, lol.

(I'll repost this thread tomorrow if the GR is up before I leave. It'd be cool to see more Home Game entries.)
