First? I’m working on a short story that needs to be 5000-8000 words, which is LONG for me, lol! I’m around 2200 words, and stuck on where to go with it. Deadline is in one week. Argh.

I’m also reading entries. Lots of good stuff so far!

That can feel like a marathon if you're used to writing shorter. It helps to storyboard that length. And to write the last paragraph, even if you don't use it. Good luck!

I’ve never tried story boarding, but I’ll give it a shot. I often just sort of wing it, see where the story takes me. Thanks!

Good luck on the story... add superflous words and unneeded scenes of filler if need be. They do it all the time. "They" are writers.

I’m also having a feline issue. My cat keeps trying to lay on my laptop… she doesn’t like it taking up my lap!

That's fine for a school paper but if one is writing a story they hope will showcase the quality of their writing this sounds like a terrible idea. I'd rather suggest adding in scenes that add depth to characters or even better more nuance and added levels to the story.

We are experiencing an utterly horrific heat wave. Today is the peak. We don't have A/C, so we've been up since five trying to get cool air into the house. Now it's closed up and we're laying low. My deck is covered with flat cats. I may try a Harry Potter marathon to keep my mind from fixating on sweating.

It is sweltering here. I also do not have A/C as they charge monthly for it outside of rent used or not. I have many fans but that's still not enough. Hell A/C might not even be enough. I'm in 5th floor elevated off a highway, so I feel ya.

OMG. I'm so sorry to hear this! And the library is a good choice during the day, but how on earth do you sleep? Hang in there! Soaking wet t-shirt and fan is a good combo.

So, when you sleep you don't feel heat or cold! So I just wait till the sweat has knocked me out. Overhead fan and two others and a $250 cooling pillow too.

I just posted mine. I had originally written a rough draft of something else but changed my mind last night. This entry made me cry to write, but I think I needed to write it. I’m trying not to play it safe this season and really dig in and write things that aren’t easy for me.

So this weekend we have voting round two here in France. We’re going to have lunch with my MIL and then my husband will vote (I can’t yet). It’s pretty scary right now, I hope we don’t go fascist.

On Friday, I went to a nearby town and hung out with a friend and my dog. We walked the forests near a chateau. It was lovely.

dogs and forests... the dream. Although less a dream in fascism but hey, take the good with the bad, right?

Hopefully we don’t go fascist tomorrow, that’s the dream! But I am glad that I got to explore the forests with my pup, he really seemed to enjoy it too.

Working and watching my co-worker do crossword puzzles while I handle everything else. (Love this for me!)

Luckily we got to go to the Farmer's Market and help paint the town mural yesterday so it doesn't feel so bad.

Also there are worse places to be stuck on a Saturday than the library.

Especially if the library is air conditioned and/or is cool and comfortable. That'd be the dream... plus to get paid? I mean I'm sure library work gets laborious, but man, if there was an easier way to become one in NYC and also land in the section that fit my brain and skills ... but yeah.

I submitted my entry with hours to spare, so I feel like I'm starting the season off right!

Our dryer suddenly stopped working, in the middle of a marathon laundry run as we wash and donate a whole bunch of clothes we don't need to keep around. Duct is clogged, which caused the thermal fuse to pop. The duct is in crap shape so decided to just replace the whole length, which is easy to access and shouldn't be hard. Thermal fuse was cheap, and something that can be replaced "easily". Which in theory is correct, except in this model dryer the only way to access it is complete disassembly of the dryer, including taking the drum out. WHEEEEE! It's working again, but I still have to do the duct.

Nothing. I'm doing nothing. Between thursday mosh pittng and deathmatch wrestling and Friday pushing mom in wheelchair to MRI consultation/follow up in sweltering heat... that is all I want. NOTHING!

(I binged Presumed Innocent so far)

I don't know whether you'd count this as interesting, unless of course you subscribe to that old Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times," but I returned from vacation to discover that the mother board on one of our home's air conditioning units had burned out. The repair person didn't have one on his truck, but promised to return Monday with the required part. (shrug) It is what it is.
