Green Room - Week 30 - Day 6
Dec. 8th, 2014 10:03 amThe topic is due today: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/811500.html
along with the Home Game/Killing Floor entry: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/811580.html
So make sure you have those in?
If you haven't - you are on the LIST OF SHAME!!http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/812992.html
The Internet says that you can't shame people anymore - but we're doing it anyway!! TAKE YOUR SHAME!!!!
***
There was a really good idea that came up out of the shame, for people to act as each other's resources: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/812992.html?thread=78115008#t78115008 You should definitely check that out and add your own areas of expertise!
Now, I have a surprise for you - because I don't usually go around saying "Go check out this group" - and really, when you do, just make sure you come right back here to hang out again. :)
But if you get the chance, you might want to pop your head over to the LJ group
little_details. Consider it "In the spirit of Livejournal harmony" gesture. :) Some of you already know about it. But for those who don't - tell them LJ Idol sent you! :)

What was your biggest accomplishment this weekend?

What was your biggest accomplishment this weekend?

Date: 2014-12-08 03:07 pm (UTC)Biggest accomplishment? Getting most of my stuff together for Fancy Cocktail Office Party Type Thing is weekend (it's my husband's work, not mine, believe me!)
However, I have discovered that long half slips seem to be an obscure item now. I need one for my skirt and I cannot find one in my size anywhere.
THE CAST IS REMOVED ON THURSDAY!!!! They're also going to be making the determination if I need surgery. If I do, I think my coworkers will be seeking me out with pitchforks...

Date: 2014-12-08 04:35 pm (UTC)- Huge changes in personal life
- Finding a way to do this while paying some bills (not a huge amount - but it's definitely something that makes me smile) http://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027
- Livejournal coming forward and asking me to "please not leave"
and more.
Now it's just a matter of figuring out *what* to do... and if anyone (old friends and new faces) will be around for whatever the "next act" of an LJ Idol will look like.
no subject
Date: 2014-12-08 04:41 pm (UTC)Idol *does* have to end at some point. (I'm only going to be around for so long, and who knows what the future of LJ is)... the question that I have been struggling all season long with (and I hope that I've been upfront enough about it - even including it in the FAQs) is "when"?
I know there are people planning on jumping off and doing their own thing. As much as I'll miss them, that is what happens. People do that. Hopefully, they are successful in whatever they end up doing. But then the question becomes - are there enough people getting on for the future?
There's still some room in this season, and a small project that will last a couple weeks immediately after the finale - for me to make a decision. But I want to keep people updated about what is going on in *my* head, so that they can let me know what's going on in theirs!

Date: 2014-12-08 04:38 pm (UTC)Also, that is a BRILLIANT idea over on the list of shame. It really thrills me to see stuff like that, where we help each other out with writerly stuff. :D
My in-person writer's group met last night, and getting all the reading done for that and playing hostess and generally being social was probably my biggest accomplishment of the weekend. That, and I got some holiday decorations up. With the kittens still being awfully rompy, I didn't feel comfortable putting up a tree this year, so instead I just hung things on the halloween decorations (I tend to leave those up and have a spooky holiday anyway). So now there's bacon ornaments and dancing frogs and santas and katamaris hanging from the big spider web in the living room and the brains-and-bones decorations between the kitchen and dining room. It's ridiculous and I love it.

Date: 2014-12-08 04:43 pm (UTC)It's an idea that *has* popped up before - but it's usually been someone saying "Hey Gary - you should make a list..." Which - no, that isn't going to happen. That's something that needs to come *from you* for it to really work!
I can provide the structure for it, but you guys actually working to help each other is something you need to be motivated to do!

Date: 2014-12-08 04:55 pm (UTC)I need to begin my yearly viewing of all "A Christmas Carol" adaptations! There are so many and I love them all. Madly. This will cheer me up. Anyone have a particular favourite of their own?
I cannot seem to commit to an Idol entry to post onto the Killing Floor. :( ....leading the lambs to slaughter....

Date: 2014-12-08 07:06 pm (UTC)I've made a few comments in the Killing Floor / Home Game thread, but I'm not sure how many more I'll have time for today. I'm starting with folks who have fewer comments, to make sure they get some feedback (with the exception of Ro's thread, where I was summoned by name. Heh). I hope I'll have time to get to bunches of pieces, but there's yet stuff to do that doesn't involve me sitting and thinking and having Opinions at a keyboard, alas.

Date: 2014-12-08 11:40 pm (UTC)And the people left in the game don't need much help with spelling and grammar!

Date: 2014-12-08 07:51 pm (UTC)I also did some Xmas shopping (but failed on my trouble people, who are still challenging- and that includes both kids!), and I put up probably all the outside lights I'll get to this year. Which leaves the INSIDE lights, the inside decorations, decorating the tree, and the baking explosion that will probably start next weekend.
This is where I wish Idol would slow down even more for a bit, until after Xmas. Yikes.
Have a penguin.

Date: 2014-12-08 08:26 pm (UTC)Achievement unlocked: Idol entry written. (This one took forever, and I still scaled back five times.)
I did post my areas of expertise, then decided it constituted "too much information." I'll post a revised edition at some point. (But then, I'm not sure there's much on there that the rest of the community doesn't already have covered in some capacity. I'm generally a "master of none" sort.)

Date: 2014-12-08 11:02 pm (UTC)The biggest accomplishment of my weekend was accidental. I came across the AO3 (archive of our own for works of fanfiction) account of someone who is writing an absolutely adorable anonymous fic for a kinkmeme, and I am now reading their other works. <3
(A kinkmeme, well, from what I have seen it's an LJ community or a tumblr where people come up with all sorts of twisted and kinky or just plain fluffy and impossible alternate universe ideas to their favourite books and movies, post requests that someone please write on the prompt, and sometimes someone does.
Well, over 50% of those writings is rubbish, another 20% mediocre childish attempts, but about 10 "fills" out of 100 are super awesome stories you can not stop reading and hoping that they were or are going to be finished. Which also does not happen that often on the kinkmeme journals.)
no subject
Date: 2014-12-08 11:23 pm (UTC)I am so fond of them (you can find more active ones at dreamwidth, in my experience), I have determined that I have "made" it as an author if a kinkmeme is created for any one of my universes.
Well, that, and a tvtropes page. :D

Date: 2014-12-08 11:34 pm (UTC)He ran away at (local big store) and I had 25 minutes of increasingly frantic searching and loudspeaker announcements until I found him hiding in a clothes rack.
I was pretty sure he hadn't left, because we got to the door pretty quick and I left my 10-year-old there while I looked. But it was scary and maddening.
Oh, he ran away because when you're Christmas shopping you don't buy something for yourself.
Also, I found a major security vulnerability in my second week at work. I am honestly surprised at how much I remember after 4.5 years, and how much easier it is than last time I did web work (which was two jobs ago). I think my mental models have improved or something.

Date: 2014-12-09 12:07 am (UTC)As for your work having improved, I have also found that after some knowledge marinates for sometime in your head, and you don't use it at all, you often improves in leaps and bounds after you access it again. I don't know why that is. Probably you are still learning subconsciously.
