In the spirit of "what people want to talk about": Two truths and a lie.

- This week we have a regular poll *and* a contestant only poll going on at the same time: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/809247.html

- There is also a Home Game/Killing Floor happening, where your participation means you get a say in who receives immunity (which could be HUGE this week) http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/808357.html

- You will make it out of December unscathed

***

So what are two things and a lie about what you are doing this weekend?

Frist?

This weekend, I am:

- Working on my NaNo
- Hanging out with my kid
aaaaaand
- Not eating any Thanksgiving leftovers.

Okay, that was weak.

- I just finished Outlast, and I'm miserable, and my friends are cackling and drinking my tears, so they're going to be making me play the DLC. Why do I always play the most depressing goddamn video games, seriously.

- I have some kratom samples coming in tomorrow. Hella.

- Something productive

...I unfortunately just did something productive, ruining the lie. *hangs head in shame* (But now that I've prepared flashcards and studying materials it's slightly less likely I'll fail my next exam. But only slightly. Oh God there are so many antibiotics and I have to memorize them all)

An impressive start! You got most of what I have to memorize. (Though, you missed artemisinin and quinine, off the top of my head.)

Now discuss the chemical structures, mechanism of action, and target organisms for each.

Also if I ever do drag it'll be under the name Roxi Thromycin. Mostly because I want everybody who isn't in medicine or biology to go home and stay up that night thinking "Throw...mice...in? Rocks ... the ... ? I don't get it. I'm sure it's obvious. Shit."

That's a sexy as hell sounding "name." I love it. I would be one of those people trying to figure it out, too. xD

My knowledge is the result of 15 years of pharmacy tech-ing while I was at uni getting a completely unrelated PhD (and various other degrees), so it's not much more than name deep, unfortunately. Though there are a few I know a bit more about...

All my pharmacology at uni was for clinical psychology and neurology specific meds; anxiolytics, antipsychotics, SSRIs, MAOIs, tricyclics, antiepileptics, antiparkinsonians, opioids, benzos, etc.

A fact for which I am super glad, because, yikes! THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT KINDS!

I'm sure you've heard the old pharmacy jokes about mycoxafloppin and mydixadroopin...!!

Learning about antibiotics is really interesting to me, because I'm a problem solver, a practical person, I can never stand things like books of philosophy or aimless political chatter. I was probably much more suited to become a crafstman. But it's fascinating, seeing the cause and effect - here's the problem, here's the cure, and here's how it works. And it's often something ingenious. I love medicine when it's clever, it gives me happy brain.

...all the same, my eyes kinda glazed over after the first or second acronym up there. Ufff. I'd be a terrible pharmacist.

I'd be more apt to go with Doxy Cycline myself, although Penny Cillin would also be amusing! :)

Weekend just started! I am loading the rick with pine instead of oak because it's not thatcold and woodstove temps can be regulated with fuel choice. Then I'm going to bake clean bread. And this evening will have a smexy someone shampoo and rinse my hair in the overflowing rain barrel....

Yep.

Bread is my favorite food. *high five* What's the difference between clean bread and...I dunno. Dirty bread. Other bread. (It really is my favorite, but I'm too simple when it comes to my food to know much about this stuff.)

I wish I had a wood stove here. They did when I lived in my grandfather's house as a kid - a cord of wood once a year is less expensive than having to fill that oil tank. And you really lose nothing over burning oil, especially if your house was designed to be heated like this. (Plus, I like to chop wood, it helps me think - me and my brother do the chopping every year anyway, but the fireplace in my parents' house is just an indulgence. That and we'll have at least one snowstorm this year that makes the power inevitably go out.)

"Clean" meaning the ingredients are as close to remembering where they came from as a food item can be. Raw milk, deep well water, ground wheat flour....and yeast. :)

We have no air or heat in this house. No need for an air conditioner as summers are mild. A few nights out of the summer you can't sleep upstairs but outside is great! Winters are cold and we do need to heat and use a woodstove. We have our own wood lot and cut and split and burn five cords a season. I love a wood fire but there's no question....that second-hand smoke is an issue. Haven't they discovered now (the ubiquitous and mysterious they) that folks routinely died of lung cancer for centuries and centuries from heating/cooking fires?

Mm. That's true. Everybody in my family smokes like a chimney, though. Wouldn't have thought much of the smoke.

Sometimes in summer I just can't get to bed unless I go into the woods and faceplant on a cold rock. The summer before this one was lethal. It should not be like eighty degrees outside at night. (This summer never happened. It was chilly all season. Maybe for a week or two it was hot, but it's only November and I already can't remember any days of summer warmth.)

two truths and a lie about this weekend (not necessarily in that order)

1. A night-owl west-coast sweetie is in town, so my day kiiiiinda started around 3 pm today. Whoops?

2. I have eaten waaay too much turkey this weekend already.

3. I am applying for two jobs this weekend. Meep. Feeling intimidated by this process.
