Green Room - Week 29 - Day 4
Nov. 24th, 2014 09:49 amIt's Thanksgiving week - that is, the *real* Thanksgiving, not whatever one the "Canadians" and "other foreigners" might be celebrating.
Which may seem strange that an one day event is celebrated all week. But then again, "Christmas season" has been being celebrated since before the Halloween decorations were down. So it's all relative.
According to the memes, Thanksgiving is a time to come together and give thanks for what you have. It is also a time to reflect on the genocide committed against the Native People. And yet, if you try to combine them, to ask what genocide folks are the most thankful for - that's when people get "upset" and "yell" while "throwing things at you".
Go figure. Some people just can't appreciate being efficient. ;)
***
What people CAN appreciate though, is that we have a topic that is due tomorrow! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/807797.html
There *are no more byes*, so hopefully everyone will be able to make it to the mat in time!
If you still need a little help, there is the Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/808175.html
and of course, if you are no longer a current contestant - or you want to read and give some constructive criticism, there is the Home Game/Killing Floor: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/808357.html
Those are things that are *both* genocide-related AND something people are thankful for having! See, it can be done!

Date: 2014-11-24 02:51 pm (UTC)Thanksgiving prep is going to be interesting with one working arm. I just realized I have to forfeit one of my desserts because I need two hands to make them the way I've made them since the Dark Ages :p

As you say: Not even close.
Date: 2014-11-24 04:55 pm (UTC)You're not dead to me, though, if that's any consolation.

Date: 2014-11-24 02:57 pm (UTC)Me included, because my NaNo ate my brain and now it's like, "Wait, you have another thing to write? FUCK THAT."
Um. Yeah. xD

Date: 2014-11-24 03:12 pm (UTC)OTOH I'm free and clear to shout :D I'll keep it down, though.

Date: 2014-11-24 03:35 pm (UTC)Of course, now I want to go the horror!meta genre, which is just. Wat.
I want to write hack and slash, I guess?
Maybe I should just write the Li-throwing-down-the-gauntlet idea I had originally upon seeing the topic and see how that goes...

Date: 2014-11-24 03:39 pm (UTC)If I give myself too many options I tend to work myself into a frothing frenzy and then I can't write anything.
I'm very much a "go with your gut" writer. It's great if you can stretch yourself while writing it, but when push comes to shove, I know I'd rather just write it and see what happens.

Date: 2014-11-24 03:45 pm (UTC)I usually am, too. But more often than not, I've been finding that my gut wants to do nonfiction pieces about Evelyn and I have gotten to the point where I will write 3/4s of a post about her and my brain just goes NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE. =p So I've been good for listening to my second idea as it comes up.
But when fiction is the first idea? I should probably listen. Hm. Okay, Li. Take me on this wild ride you've got planned, I guess.

Date: 2014-11-24 03:55 pm (UTC)I had a nightmare last night that I got kicked out of Idol for not posting on time, so. Glad that's done and out of the way, now back to panicking about non-Idol life, yaaaaaaaaaaaay!
Happy Monday, y'all.

Date: 2014-11-24 08:40 pm (UTC)Still brain-friend from the last three weeks at work, but there's a bicycle ride in my future and I'm taking the week off, so YAYYYY!

Date: 2014-11-24 08:50 pm (UTC)Proof I should always go with the first fictional idea that comes to me.
Of course, now I am trying to focus on my NaNo and it's just not happening. >(

Date: 2014-11-24 09:15 pm (UTC)I'm slow, and even something like this (where I know the points I'm going to cover, etc.) still took over 24 hours. :(

Date: 2014-11-24 09:21 pm (UTC)Thing is, I'm hardly ever distraction free long enough for that to happen. xD And it really only seems to happen when writing smut, which is formulaic and requires less actual thinking.
Over the course of a day still isn't that long, to me! The good news is you have a draft. :)

Date: 2014-11-24 10:22 pm (UTC)Otherwise, it entails "blocking," much like any action scene. :D

Date: 2014-11-24 10:24 pm (UTC)God, action scenes. I do not understand how to write them and one day I will learn.

Date: 2014-11-25 01:15 am (UTC)Gary throwing the gauntlet made me realize there was one thing I had never written about. Of course there is a reason I have never written it. I now have done and discarded four entries because I keep writing things I did not mean to write.
Crap. This is really hard.
I just have such problems lowering my guard.
