Good morning! How is everyone today?
LJ Idol Tech Support wishes she could have taken a sick day. (Stupid cold.) Our fabulous host was running late this morning and asked me to post the Green Room. Go me!
What's going on in your lives today? I've seen a lot of buzz about the debate last night. I didn't get to watch because I was at my other job.
What's going on in my life today? Well, I arranged to work last night so that I could have tonight off so I can watch the Packers
That's about it for me. I'm off to update my poll tables with the latest entries.
Speaking of entries... post them here! The deadline is coming up fast! Don't make me post your name tomorrow morning. :-)

Date: 2007-11-29 04:05 pm (UTC)So who are you supporting in the primaries?
no subject
Date: 2007-11-29 04:13 pm (UTC)As for who I am supporting. sadly I am still pretty undecided. No one really has grabbed me yet.

Date: 2007-11-29 04:20 pm (UTC)I think a lot of folks are still pretty undecided. There's a lot of debris to sort though. lol... I'm an Edwards guy, myself.

Date: 2007-11-29 04:31 pm (UTC)with a population that is ignorant about those things, is it any wonder we are where we currently are No kidding...It really irks me when I talk to some coworkers about things and they just give me a blank look. I usually have to ask them if they even know what I am talking about and they are look who is he? or how is she?
One coworker had a telemarketer call awhile ago and asked her about what political party she most agrees with. They rattled off the list and mentioned the green party. So the next day at work, I get asked,"Nicole, what's the Green Party?".
I am still working through trying to find the one who best fits my beliefs

Date: 2007-11-29 06:26 pm (UTC)Seriously! I'm so happy to finally "meet" somebody that feels irked by that too! lol... I work with a bunch of folks who, shall we say... lean heavily to the right. They bash me for this and that, for not knowing my history, the government and prattle on and on about illegal immigrants this and that. So one day, I printed up some of the very basic citizenship tests and just asked them to take it. Yeah, none of them even came close to passing.
They fail to see nuance... yes, I'm a registered Dem, yes I'm a liberal... but I'm mainly a social liberal and I've got some very traditionally conservative beliefs. Somebody may try to strip me of my liberal-card for saying this, but if there were a worthy Republican candidate and none on my side of the aisle I felt measured up, I would vote for the Republican in a heartbeat. The trouble is, this collection of Republicans don't measure up in any way, shape or form. I think if any of them won the general, it would be disastrous for the country. We're already in a huge enough hole.

I can't tell you how much I respect that. Most people don't take the time to do that... they vote for say... Obama because Oprah is endorsing him or what have you. It makes me sad that more people don't take our system of government very seriously.

Date: 2007-11-29 06:47 pm (UTC)I grew up with very Dem parents and eventually started to lean towards the right but really find myself in the middle. I have some democratic views but also some conservative beliefs as well. My dad always taught me that you need to look at what the person stands for because it's the person that we are voting for.

It makes me sad that more people don't take our system of government very seriously. That drives me very more batty. Years ago I was working at a different law firm and Mark Dayton was running for office and someone told me she was going to vote for him becuase she liked his name and his family owned the Dayton's Department Stores. My god it took all my self control to just not go off on her.
....it's been nice chatting with you about it. I rarely get to talk to people about politics

Date: 2007-11-29 08:11 pm (UTC)Oh, it sounds like we've got some similar experience here. lol... sort of like beating your head against a brick wall sometimes, isn't it?
My dad always taught me that you need to look at what the person stands for because it's the person that we are voting for.
EXACTLY!!! Your dad certainly sounds like a wise man. lol... Seriously, we need to start thinking about country, not party first. Things are so polarized right now and people are voting for somebody simply because they have a (D) or (R) behind their name instead of looking at where this person stands on actual policy issues. It's frustrating.

Oy. Somebody like that should seriously consider not voting ever again. lol... I think most people shun politics because they don't feel empowered, like there's nothing we can do to change things or that government really doesn't matter in their lives on a day to day basis. Some folks say that even after this seven-year nightmare we've been living through. I want to scream sometimes.
It's definitely nice chatting with you about these things. Like you, I don't have a lot of folks in my life as interested in politics as I am and don't get to talk about it too much. That's one reason I have this journal... I talk politics quite a bit. Feel free to friend me if you'd like! We can chat. lol...

Date: 2007-11-29 08:22 pm (UTC)Very very much so!
For as much as I don't agree with my dad on somethings, yes he is and I think he taught me very well about politics and what to do look at.

Friended you back.
I look forward to reading! and chatting with you.
I don't talk much about politics in my journal but who knows maybe you will inspire me to.

Date: 2007-11-29 08:58 pm (UTC)That's very awesome. If more people got their kids interested in politics and informing themselves, as your dad did, this country would be in much better shape.
My dad is a pretty hard right-winger. Still supports Bush, yadda yadda yadda... so you can probably well imagine what holidays are like. lol...
Looking forward to reading and chatting with you too! A fellow wonk. This will be awesome. lol...
The reason I post so much about politics is that I figure if I throw it out there, people can read it... or not. I don't want/need everybody to agree with me about everything... if they at least think about it. That's my main objective... to get people to think. But I figure that by putting it out there, I'm at least trying to get people to think about things and form their own conclusions. Y'know?

Date: 2007-11-29 09:34 pm (UTC)I agree and one of the reasons why I decided to do the career change from the legal field to teaching. If it pans out and I can get atleast one kid interested in government I feel like I would have done my job and also feel some sort of accomplishment as well.
Lord, that must make for some interesting holidays...

That's good to get people to think, I need to start thinking of it like that. For me I would always worry about coming off wrong and start some sort of drama. I debate/talk better in person so writing is about it is a bit tricky for me.

Date: 2007-12-02 06:35 am (UTC)That's exactly the way I feel too!!! Too awesome.
Oh yeah, very interesting holidays. Of course, we battle all year long, so it's not just the holidays. Though, those times seem a little more intense. lol....
Oh, I'd bet you wouldn't come off wrong. You seem very intelligent and very articulate. I doubt you'd have any trouble creating drama. :-)

Very cool!
I could see that, the holiday being a tad more intense.
Thank you:)
