You've been here 6 weeks, and thought you had a pretty good handle on how things go.

Heck, maybe you're a veteran with 100+ plus weeks, and thought nothing could surprise you.

Hi. My name is Gary and this is a post that I'm making! :)

Everyone knows that you have 3 byes to use between the start of the game and the Top 50. Which is still a really long way away.

But what if you are out of byes already, or think you will be soon?

What if there is someone who is confident in their ability to always be able to get an entry in, regardless of the circumstances.

I've got a proposition for you.

If you have a bye and want to give it to someone just notify me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com before the topic deadline for that given week. (notify them as well, otherwise they will assume they are out/almost out! :D)

Maybe you just want to see someone get a little further.
Maybe they are having a hard time with real life right now and you want to make things a little easier on them.
Heck, maybe it's a strategic move to gain favor with someone and look like a good person.

Whatever, this is now on the table from now until the Top 100. Use it wisely!

Not that I'm begging; I'm out but...I'm going to try to write everything from here on out. The surgery is over and I'm mostly not in pain anymore.

Nope.

As long as you have them, you can give them to anyone you want.

This week is really stressful with my mom's neurologist appointments and struggling with my classroom and other family issues that I may have to use my last bye today. That's how I read it. When I saw the start of the entry, I thought the byes could be bartered or sold to each other, not just given. I suppose they still could be, but, it feels mean to be the first one to start that protocol!

I just had to take my second bye because Real Life is once again kicking me in the you-know-where. I don't think anyone will ever dispute my dedication to this crazy game either :)

That said, if one is feeling generous I won't complain if a bye is sent my way and it'll be received with everlasting gratitude...

We could go the other way. We could collectively pool all the byes, and have them drawn out as needed. That'd be a different twist for the competition if Gary did it too -- "there are 1000 byes, use as you need but weigh it up against how your fellow contestants will react to you taking one." Shame there's no Season 10 to try this out in!

Yep.

You could also get a vote from someone who likes you because you always comment on their entries. Or your icon makes them smile. Or they just plain like you in general, and will give you the benefit of the doubt during an off-week.

At some point though, even if you set up an actual "vote for me" in exchange for my bye" there is no guarantee that someone is going to keep doing that if you don't keep delivering.

LOL I've been so disconnected with work and other stuff lately that I didn't see this until using my last bye tonight. Then, I saw Gary's announcement in the GR, and wondered, "Hey, what's going on now?"

I have the amazingly good fortune** to be out of the country for a total of five Mondays. (--assuming due dates continue to be Mondays--)
According to my social secretary, I was blessedly given two while I was in the Bahamas. Since in a few weeks I will be on my way to Germany, anyone who cares to take pity on me could send a bye or three my way.

What about the people who have more than one account? Are you letting them share their byes from both? Are you letting them share their byes with their own accounts?

Is they bye given good for just the current week (in that case how would we know someone needs one right then), or you see someone you like out of byes and you give one to them - until Top 50?

This is probably a dumb question, but as a former sensei and former university tutor I learned long ago the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask.
So, the bye twist.
I got eliminated before I used any of my byes. There are several people I'm really enjoying reading.
Can I give them my byes if they need them?
