Good morning. Running behind schedule today because I went to vote.

How is everyone doing today?

Read any good entries from week 1's action thus far?

I read 63 entries over the course of yesterday and I favored about 10 of them.

It seemed like the majority of them were "make them cry" entries. From the comments to other people's entries, it seems that the more poignant entries are a favorite. I have to wonder if it was a bad move to choose such a light-hearted memory to share. Ah well, it's too late to change anything now.

I think light-hearted is fine. I liked your entry. :)

Well thank for the positive feedback! And I should mention that while I read those entries yesterday, I went through my spreadsheet and wrote "no", "yes", and "maybe" on all of them. If it makes you feel any better, you are on my "yes" list.

Thank you!

I thought you could keep changing anything 'til Friday?

Oh really? Maybe you can, I really have no idea.

However, I wouldn't want to change mine just because a lot of other people had tear-jerker entries. That would make me feel kind of fake. If I did change it at all, it would only be to add a few more details that I left out or fix a few phrases that feel a bit off.

Oh, I didn't realize that either. I went back and fixed some bad LJ tags in mine, and I wasn't positive even THAT was allowed.

Good to know for future posts. I think this time I said everything I wanted to say.

Don't be silly, silly. I love reading the happy memories as well as the tear jerkers. Yours was perfectly lovely. How people read and rate these entries will likely be as subjective as how they write 'em.

The thing is:

Y'know how 100 people can compliment you and only 1 person can criticize you and you're sure to remember that one criticism? I think the same truth kind of holds when it comes to these "favorite childhood" entries. Touch them, make them hurt for you/with you, and show them the dark corners of your mind and they're far more likely to be moved to remember you. But I could be wrong *shrug*

pssst...

If no one has told you yet... it isn't too late to change your entry. Just make sure to let people know so if they have read it, they can read it again.

Right, Gary?

That's what he told me today. Not that I'm planning on changing mine. I'm sticking to my guns.

I had no clue you could change your entry! I guess it makes sense given that the deadline isn't until Friday. But we all have so many entries to read anyway, I doubt anyone would make it back my way. My entry/writing will have to stand on its own two feet. Cross your fingers for me!

I tend to prefer a lighter touch. I don't think there's any reason to panic ;-)

I wouldn't say that I'm in panic mode or anything, but I also notice that a lot of the people in the competition have over 100 friends, if not 300! I am in a canoe while other are yachting it ;)

I feel the same way. I have over 100 friends now, but that's because a bunch of LJ Idol peeps added me.

Two to paddle and one to steer! That makes canoeing a lot easier. :)

Yeah, same here. I'm philosophical about it, though. I plan to "home game" it once eliminated (that is, continue to do each of the topics without playing officially). The writing's the fun part :)

See, I work kind of bizarrely. If I know I have an audience, I really put my heart and soul into the writing. I think this stems from being in far too many writing groups a few years ago. Without the feedback, the drive to write fades. But I think, much like you, I'll play the "home game" when it comes down to it.

Oh, I don't think I'll do that. I read last season with that kind of in mind, and I never did it.

From: [identity profile] tulip-in-yellow.livejournal.com
Never did it? Do you mean that you never played the home game or you never felt driven to write because you had an audience?

I'm sure, given how well we know one another, that our thoughts on the matter are Exactly the same. That's right, I used a big E.
