Green Room - Week 6 - Weekend Edition
Jun. 29th, 2013 01:12 pmYes, I am working around the house to get things ready for a soon to be 10-year old's slumber party. Just before it starts, I will be sent into exile at a friend's house, so that no one's parents will be nervous about the idea of "the guy who just moved in" being there. So, I do a lot of the cleaning, and get none of the cake! There is something wrong with this scenario! ;)
The more domestic I become, the more that I will have to take it out on YOU. So, yay, at least I have that to fall back on.
*looks around the room for the first victim* *Points to YOU* Oh, yes, you will do perfectly...
***
You are currently selecting some victims of your own. Or rather, you are selecting the people you DON'T want to see fall through the trap doors to meet their untimely fate. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/667269.html
So use that time wisely.
I was going to post something about "If the poll closed today, ____ is how much people would be leaving" but then I looked at the numbers, and the outstanding votes still out there, and realized that there was still enough to, in theory, completely flip the poll upside down! So, if you still haven't turned in your votes, DO SO! Your favorites could be counting on you!

Date: 2013-06-29 05:20 pm (UTC)Most of them haven't been eliminated, actually. In fact, almost all of them stayed -- but two major things changed that affect how the rest of the story will be told. And I love it. I feel excited again about my books. Though these two major things really will change everything, to some degree.
But I think in the end, I'll have a product I'm truly happy with. And that's what's important, right?

Date: 2013-06-29 05:39 pm (UTC)I've been trying to rewrite my novel Chiaroscuro but I've gotten to the point where I nearly have to force myself. That is something I don't want to do because the end results are never good!

Date: 2013-06-29 06:18 pm (UTC)Unless Pink and Nate Reuss doing "Just Give Me A Reason" counts, or Erasure's "Oh L'amour", I don't think I have anything that's straight up sad or bittersweet. There's Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper", but that makes me want to smoke a joint, play Rock Band, and\or ask for more cowbell, not burst into tears. Hmm. *digs more* Aerosmith's "Cryin'"? Yeah, that's all I got. *useless comment*

Date: 2013-06-29 11:20 pm (UTC)It's Sunday morning here. I think I'll bake some fruit bread and chill out in our garden today. It's going to chilly, but sunny. Might visit my sister as well.
I've had precious little time to read Idol entries at all this week, but definitely agree that

Date: 2013-07-01 10:03 am (UTC)So I'll ask it now: how do you vote? How do you decide who to vote for, or how many votes you'll cast? Do you usually vote for a lot of people, or only a very few? Does it depend on the week? I'm curious. After voting this week, I'm wondering if I've been doing it wrong…

Date: 2013-07-01 12:15 pm (UTC)I don't usually vote for a lot. When Gary said vote for 30, I went "oh god," because that's easily double my usual voting pool. It does depend on the week. Some contestants consistently get my vote (they churn out good stuff week to week), others are more hit & miss. This is why I read everything, even if it's by someone I don't usually like. There's still a chance they'd knock it out of the park for me, y'know?

Date: 2013-07-01 01:50 pm (UTC)I like things that are honest and well-crafted. I like to be surprised. I like to care about the characters if it's fiction. I Crafting matters. I'll cut a piece some slack for another flaw if the words are put together well. By the same standard, esp on nonfic pieces, an honest entry that tells me something about a person will get a vote even if it's not particularly well crafted.
I voted for 30 this wee, because that was the instruction. That's about twice my usual, give or take, depending on how many people are still in.
FWIW, I think you will find as many different ways of voting as there are voters in Idol. You get to vote regardless, so I don't think you should worry about doing it wrong. I vote for the entry, not the person, but some people vote for their f-list regardless. There aren't any rules about it, and I suppose it's a lot like standing in front of a rack of books at the airport. What makes you pick up one vs another. For some people it's an author they've trusted before. For some it's a feature of the cover. Some read the blurb on the back cover or the first page of the book and then decide. Different strokes.
