Green Room - Week 4 - Day 7

The further we get into “the summer months”, the rougher it gets on LJ. At least that’s been my personal experience with it. Other people have their own takes – but things tend to die down once the kids get out of school and families start taking vacations. Which might say more about the Idol demographic than LJ’s in general. Given Livejournal’s current demographic, I’d say that they probably have more of a “low turn-out” ratio when the Russian government isn’t coming out against homosexually. When it is – everyone shows up, and overloads the servers.

The reason that I bring this up, is that word of mouth is going to be even more crucial for the rest of this mini season than it usually is – granted, Idol has gone into this time of year before, but never “one month in”. Even in the early seasons, we always came in with some serious momentum, and people following what was going to happen next.

Which means that if you want to see your favorites stick around – start talking about them. Not just to each other (which is always a good thing to do, regardless). But also mentioning them wherever it is that you go when you aren’t here. Which – I still don’t “get” that. You should just give those places up. They don’t love you like we love you! ;)

Second! Anyway, still busy reading - I've got maybe 30 more to go through, but overall I've been quite impressed. Lots of zombie / apocalypse sort of things with the "Infected" topic, although the person who wrote about her poor toe (belleweather, I think?) really amused me!

Yay. I knew I could write a great zombie bite story for that but decided to do a zombie survival story for shadow children instead.
I like my zombie stories to be about survival more then apocalyptic. Well except were Anna is concerned and she veiws her "people" as survivors.

I didn't have to work until the afternoon but have been out since 8:00. The wife left her cellphone at home so I brought it to her, missed my bus, and had to wait for a later one.

I should be cleaning and packing, but I so am not... although I am going to do the washing up, even though it is after midnight. some thing just need to be done.

maaaan. I am excited dabout my holiday, but at the same time... well. once I get on that first train it will be fine. But I have 2 hours of trains, followed by a 2 hour flight, then another 3 hours of trains to get to the first stop.

What order do you (everyone) tend to read stuff in?

I go:

flist (because I read them as they post)
people who comment on my piece (return the courtesy/love)
people whose work I liked last week
everyone else rather quickly in the last two hours before deadline

I'm curious, because I'm definitely seeing that most of us get more votes than comments, so people clearly are reading (or at least voting for their friends) but not so much with the commenting.

Are we running out of time?

Do people end up choosing "I have time to read or comment but not both"?

Do people read but feel weird about commenting on someone's work when they don't otherwise interact with that person?

This inquiring mind wants to know!

Sometimes I'll read a piece, like it enough to vote for it, but not have anything particularly interesting to say about it (or my sentiments would just echo opinions that have already been posted).

I'm somehow extremely crunched for time, I start out with the best intentions and read + comment but because I run out of time I end up sacrificing commenting most of the time. Sometimes even voting.

I do love to get comments though, so I feel bad when I don't leave them =/

Today has involved weird stomach aches, triumphs of me over machine (I put together a reel lawnmower! Whooo!), yard work, and lots of reading. I discovered Worlds Without End (https://www.worldswithoutend.com/) and spent quite a while poking around the website, using the book tracker and playing with things.

Soon, there shall be cheapo delivery Chinese food. This may not be helpful with regards to the weird stomach aches, but damn, it sounds tasty.
