The further we get into “the summer months”, the rougher it gets on LJ. At least that’s been my personal experience with it. Other people have their own takes – but things tend to die down once the kids get out of school and families start taking vacations. Which might say more about the Idol demographic than LJ’s in general. Given Livejournal’s current demographic, I’d say that they probably have more of a “low turn-out” ratio when the Russian government isn’t coming out against homosexually. When it is – everyone shows up, and overloads the servers.

The reason that I bring this up, is that word of mouth is going to be even more crucial for the rest of this mini season than it usually is – granted, Idol has gone into this time of year before, but never “one month in”. Even in the early seasons, we always came in with some serious momentum, and people following what was going to happen next.

Which means that if you want to see your favorites stick around – start talking about them. Not just to each other (which is always a good thing to do, regardless). But also mentioning them wherever it is that you go when you aren’t here. Which – I still don’t “get” that. You should just give those places up. They don’t love you like we love you! ;)

Take a look at the poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/662330.html - who isn’t getting the love you think they deserve? What is it that you like about their entry? Or, if this might have not been their best, what is it that you think that they are bringing to the table that will end up showing up in their future entries that you don’t want other people to miss?

Second! Anyway, still busy reading - I've got maybe 30 more to go through, but overall I've been quite impressed. Lots of zombie / apocalypse sort of things with the "Infected" topic, although the person who wrote about her poor toe ([livejournal.com profile] belleweather, I think?) really amused me!

It was a very good entry - it was subtle, and you don't expect the ending.

Still reading entries, still haven't voted (I like to keep my spreadsheet updated then Vote All At Once rather than worrying about LJ being a dip when it comes to editing my votes to add more later), but you're definitely on my voting list!

Should be getting more sweet lovin' in the polls:

[livejournal.com profile] thegrimms
[livejournal.com profile] lapis_lazuli615
[livejournal.com profile] tatdatcm
[livejournal.com profile] m1ss1ngcupcake

Also, today is kind of hell for me. Scary family stuff. Brutal PMDD. Someone tell me something nice or something bootstrappy or both. I accept both forms of currency.

Unexpected rainy day off -- planning on working on the Big Project (which is still in the planning stages) and hanging out in the Hannibal tag on tumblr. And reading/commenting on Idol entries, of course!

We're so very close to being able to buy our new house!!!

Also, I bought fresh beetroot today. I'm not sure what I'm going to make with it, but I'm excited about it.

Also, also, I read your blog entry and the why-do-I-write part really resonated with me, and I felt an affinity with you and not quite so crazy-alone in wanting to create stories. So, thank you for that.

Big hugs, too.

I feel the same way about my entry. :P

I can't fathom how I have that many votes. It's bizarre.

I didn't have to work until the afternoon but have been out since 8:00. The wife left her cellphone at home so I brought it to her, missed my bus, and had to wait for a later one.

Now I'm amazed I made it to the GR before I left for work. ;)

I should be cleaning and packing, but I so am not... although I am going to do the washing up, even though it is after midnight. some thing just need to be done.

maaaan. I am excited dabout my holiday, but at the same time... well. once I get on that first train it will be fine. But I have 2 hours of trains, followed by a 2 hour flight, then another 3 hours of trains to get to the first stop.

I wish
a) I owned more books
b) I hadn't accidently destroyed my kindle charger....

I am spending 10 days in Kyushu (the southern most main island of Japan).

There is like... one public transport loop on the island, so it takes for EVER to get anyway. (and it is expensive ;_;). I am visiting friends, and also going to stay near an active volcano, but everything involves criss crossing.. and well.. yeah.

but once I am there, I know it will be good :-D

I didn't really get into Hannibal but I can't stop reading the fanfiction. It's so disturbingly good.

One of my favorite salads is mozzarella cheese, mixed greens, craisins, grapes and pistachios with a balsamic glaze (balsamic vinegar mixed with honey and cooked until it's thick and unctuous). Give it a shot! :)

Learn something new! Do you like to cook? Try out a new recipe, or go read something new, or indulge in whatever self-care kinds of things you like!

What order do you (everyone) tend to read stuff in?

I go:

flist (because I read them as they post)
people who comment on my piece (return the courtesy/love)
people whose work I liked last week
everyone else rather quickly in the last two hours before deadline

I'm curious, because I'm definitely seeing that most of us get more votes than comments, so people clearly are reading (or at least voting for their friends) but not so much with the commenting.

Are we running out of time?

Do people end up choosing "I have time to read or comment but not both"?

Do people read but feel weird about commenting on someone's work when they don't otherwise interact with that person?

This inquiring mind wants to know!
