Like Daniel Tosh insulting a heckler, another Week of LJ IDOL is here and isn’t going anywhere any time soon!
I actually have a lot to say about that – none of it coherent though, so I’ll wait a little longer and see if I still feel like saying it. ;)
What I DO feel like saying though is that the results went up last night: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/586484.html
With the “non-elimination”, there was some concern that people might misunderstand that and assume that a contestant was cheating or doing something they shouldn’t have been doing.
They were not.
I need to make that much clear, just so no one walks away with the wrong idea.
There was an account – and there is a good chance that it was a friend who signed up for Livejournal to show support – and no one thought “let’s give Gary a heads up on this one”. It voted. The votes affected the results, so I flagged it and officially made it a tie instead of getting rid of someone.
Because no one should be going for someone else’s mistake – and yes, now two people are on the block BUT it was a matter of a single vote. Had it been two votes, with only one of them in question, we wouldn’t be having the conversation. It’s a small price to be sure that everyone gets a fair shake.
I’d say that I think everyone here is on the up-and-up and seriously talented – but that would imply that I liked any of you and that I read a single word. I wouldn’t want to ruin my reputation like that! ;)
So instead I’ll post a link to the Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/586211.html
And the new topics: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/585760.html
And tell you to get off your lazy butts and get to work! ;)

Though it's the distinct "flavor" of clueless asshole that really makes for good writing fodder. :D

Date: 2012-07-13 01:50 pm (UTC)I went and did one of the topics for the home game -- I intend to do the other two (because why not?), but for now, I redid one of the season 8 topics. The entry can be found at http://theun4givables.livejournal.com/7576.html. I redid gobsmacked, as I had roughly three ideas for it, when I was competing, but went with my third idea. I think this is the one I should have gone with. ;) Maybe then I might not have been eliminated and I'd still be in this crazy mess!

Date: 2012-07-13 02:03 pm (UTC)A few days ago, it started raining and being cloudy.
This morning I had to turn the heat on in the car on the way to the office.
Also yay I am free and get to relax this weekend! :)
I hope you all have awesome days.

Date: 2012-07-13 02:21 pm (UTC)Oh the dilemmas. Of course I'll choose Idol over sleep or else I wouldn't be here still :D
I actually saw the email for the GR and thought it was Gary having "more to say about Idol" if you catch my meaning. If you don't, I'm a bit incoherent at the moment.

Date: 2012-07-13 02:52 pm (UTC)Sarcasm is fine, but meanspiritedness doesn't interest me for long. For example, I love Joel McHale on "The Soup."
Well, I'm going to see if I can make it to the pool with my son a little earlier today. Wish me luck! (We're walking 2 miles to get there.)

Date: 2012-07-13 03:12 pm (UTC)She didn't know she was seeing him. What no one seems to be discussing is that it was Laugh Factory's "All Star" night - where they have 6 or 7 comedians and one "mystery guest" that ends up closing the show. Tosh was the mystery guest. (I looked up the gig, because it wasn't sounding right to me)
She went to see Dane Cook. Which is the thing that opens her up to criticism. ;) (not her sensibilities and being offended)
The weird thing - to me - is that Dane Cook was the next to last act that night. She says that she doesn't particularly *like* him - but she sat through 5 or 6 acts to see him and then stayed for the last guy, even though she didn't know who he was.
That strikes me as the "let's go see Comedy!" mentality, which is kind of like "I want to read Book" and grabbing one off the shelf at random. Because it's Book, it's going to be good!
Which is a whole different subject. But everyone everywhere has addressed all of the others!

Date: 2012-07-13 07:23 pm (UTC)In a very weird headspace currently, as my dr started me on antidepressants and I had a wonderful three weeks or so, and then the cold that hit me seems to have knocked me out of that good place and I'm as unmotivated as ever. It's starting to seriously annoy me, because I've got stuff to do that I know would take max 2-3 hours per thing to do if I just got started and I just CANNOT start, without really having a good idea of where the time is going.
Hoping that it's the cold lingering and that it'll clear up when I can catch up on the sleep it stole from me.

*Disclaimer*
I was not at the comedy club, and there are conflicting accounts of what happened, and everything on the internet is less accurate than it reports to be.
That said,
IMO, there are things that aren't funny. Rape is one of them. Lynching is another. I live in Louisiana, and if you joke about oil-soaked pelicans I will punch you in the face. (Generalized violence, is apparently fine, however.)
Speaking truth to stupid is not wrong, but depending on the situation it may be dangerous. Is it heckeling? Is that how you spell heckling heckeling, whatever?
Regardless of what happened that night, the more disturbing thing I read (some time in the past hour or so) was that the production staff on his new series is upset because he's supposed to show the pilot at some comedy event this weekend, and they have to edit out all the rape references before Friday, and it was a major topic for the show.
Which would tend to indicate the subject matter was more than just a random happenstance suggested by an audience member, and Tosh does think rape is funny. But that's a conclusion.
And now, apparently comedians all over are talking about what is or is not off limits in comedy, and that's an important discussion to have periodically, IMO. Also, anyone who has an opinion on this should have to read this post (http://austin.culturemap.com/newsdetail/07-12-12-14-37-the-best-response-weve-heard-to-daniel-toshs-misquoted-rape-jokes/).
Everyone who thinks they're funny gets in trouble at some point in time because someone (their spouse, or their boss, or Gary, etc.) doesn't think they're as funny as they do. Hell, it happens to me all the time.
What? I am too funny!
And there are people who push the envelope in ways I never would (Kathy Griffin, Lewis Black, Bill Mahr) and they go too far sometimes and do things that I think are beyond "the line."
But *if* what he said was, "It would be funny if this woman was raped by five guys right now." or even some near simulation of that, that is very simply not freaking funny. No matter who she is or where they are. Because given the right people in the audience, and the right level of alcohol consumption, that shit could happen, which would make his comment a crime, whether he participated in the resulting act or not.

Date: 2012-07-13 08:55 pm (UTC)I'm helping Rich move tomorrow, and I'm kind of delighted by this turn of events. No, wait, this makes sense! He hates asking for help, but has been feeling super overwhelmed by this move, and finally caved in. So now he owes me twice. Mwahaha, et cetera. Also, he's kind of (really) an ascetic (at least compared to packrat me) so I don't think this will be much of a big deal at all. Hopefully he hasn't somehow managed to accumulate a ton of stuff since, uh, Tuesday.
Today has been a comedy of errors involving pet food, car doors, smashed toes, and a plushie walrus falling on my head. For serious and true. I feel like declaring "ok already, I'll be superstitious!" just to get things to calm down a bit. It's like Murphey's Law, right? If I'm superstitious then bad things will stop happening to me? Something tells me (it might be my rational brain. It's sleeping in there somewhere) that doesn't actually work. Sigh...

Date: 2012-07-14 05:24 pm (UTC)Maybe if I get up the courage I will ask to friend some more of you, but I'm always a little nervous of rejection when asking to friend.
That said, I'm glad to still be here for another week. I'm sure no one was cheating so I don't worry about that at all. What I do worry about is getting my entries turned in so I can earn my place which I have retained in idol. This was a sad week for me seeing some of the people who got voted out.
In other news, school is going well. I got a letter saying I made the Dean's list last semester so I'm happy about that. I got an A on my first gender psych class for this summer, and I am finished with the music class I was also taking this summer, but not sure of my grade yet.
Work has been quiet. Next week I am going to D.C. taking a camp of blind kids to tour the city for just a few days. I have never been before. It's partly work based and partly volunteer based.
Fargo is doing well. Yesterday we walked all over town and he did well despite the heat. My asthma didn't like it though. Some lady harrassed me about taking the dog out in the heat, like I never give him water or rest him. Nuts.
That's it from here. I hope all are well.

Date: 2012-07-15 07:18 am (UTC)I wrote a home game entry for Bupkis, but unfortunately I have Bupkis for a place to post it. This room has scrolled off, I'm sure, and the current post is for Spirit of Idol, so that seems off topic.
Sure would be nice if there was a HOME GAME POST. ::cough::
