Green Room - Week 30 - Day 2
Jun. 6th, 2012 10:53 amDid anything interesting happen yesterday?
I can’t recall.

I’ll admit, I have a couple rants building up based on the fallout from the last week. I’ve had to delete a few. ;)
I did realize though that there is one line that came up regardless of the original subject. It’s a line that’s come up for 8 seasons now. I imagine that will come up next one as well – heck, it comes up in everyday life!
If you like something, SUPPORT IT.
You see it all the time, a local institution announces that it is going out of business and people come out of the woodwork to go “OMG! I can’t believe that’s closing! It was my favorite place! Why is it closing???”
It’s not always a cut and dry answer – but when it comes down to “the economy”, you can usually go back and check how many of those people actually went to that place on a regular basis and realize that many of them didn’t.
They just liked knowing it was there.
Idol is a much more straight-forward scenario. I can actually see when someone is “OMG, I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT SO AND SO IS GONE!” and look to see if they actually voted for them. If you didn’t; you shouldn’t be surprised if they are gone. Especially with voting as tight as it has been.
If you enjoy it, vote for it. Some people do. Some of them don't. You wouldn't always know who is who. I assume that everyone is being sincere with their shock. But assuming someone is safe isn't the same as doing what you can to make sure they are.
I know there are various strategies at play, for how people want to play the game aspects. Which is fine. It’s part of what keeps things interesting, and keeps people on the edge of their seats!
But at the end of the day, I think everyone wants to see great writers at the end, battling it out. I think we are going to get that, as long as that is something people want to support.

Oh, and RIP Ray Bradbury. Because I just saw that before posting…

Date: 2012-06-06 03:00 pm (UTC)And, I went out with one of my best received entries yet, and that sits way better with me than going out feeling like I phoned it in. People have at least seemed anyway to have been more supportive of me as the numbers have dwindled, and I've appreciated that. For personal reasons, I've been skittish about being terribly active in this community this season, and hoped that my writing would speak for itself. I'm really glad you all gave me a chance to let it, and I thank you for that.

Date: 2012-06-06 03:14 pm (UTC)I need to start writing soon. Bleh. I was hoping to be off of pain pills by now, but I'm actually hurting more than I was the 2 days immediately after the surgery. So I'm sure my writing this week will be amazing! LOL

Anyway.
Hey Gary - I put some words together last night. Before I spend time editing them, will there be a Home Game post?
ETA - damn, I sound bitchy. Yes, I do still have that headache. :(

*this is not a suggestion... Actually, Gary, just forget you saw this comment.

Date: 2012-06-06 06:14 pm (UTC)I loved many of Bradbury's stories, but not always the same ones that were more popular with other people. I was more a fan of his short stories, particularly The Illustrated Man (virtually the entire collection). He had so many unusual ideas, and such lyricism in how he told them.
The things he imagined, and brought to us in return!

Ohhhhh Gary. I see what you did there. Sigh.
I have all kinds of thinky thoughts about democracy, about elections and voting, and what (if anything) it means when one person gets voted into office instead of another (or not voted out, as the case may be). And I expect a few of those thoughts will get funneled into various (possibly nefarious) LJI entries, since there are so many of them to write. Heh.
I'm sad about Ray Bradbury and just plain tired today, though. I was up yesterday at 5:20 and didn't get home until about 9:30 (election day paperwork takes a lot of time, plus I volunteered to drive the tabulator stuff down to the clerk's office, which also took a while). So I'm kind of wiped out.
I will say this: I am impressed when people are motivated to get up and do things - whether that's in Idol or real life, or whatever. An object at rest tends to stay at rest, and overcoming that can be a challenge. I helped to register more than 100 new voters yesterday, just in my ward. Voting is neat and should be cherished. Having a forum to speak, to make a difference... that's a precious thing. And it goes for Idol as well as the so-called real world. Now I'm rambling. I be quiet now and go figure out what the heck I'm going to write. ;)

Date: 2012-06-07 01:19 am (UTC)PLEASE NOTE: I am not referring to this week. I don't even remember who was voted out in the last round and would have to strain my brain to remember.
It's a lot easier to be shocked when someone scores consistenly high in the polls and gets voted out than someone goes home who has been slipping in the polls week by week.
