I was reminded by a rather voluptuous friend that my timeline was running short. Work has been obscenely encroaching on my life as a human being lately, and today was a sort of pinnacle of insolence, resulting in my staying late (again), and almost missing the deadline. Thanks to said (did I mention voluptuous and talented) friend, I had a bit less than an hour to spare. Made it with three minutes to go.

I really don't mean to short-sheet the competition. It's helping me reboot my writing after a year of self-immolation. And trust me, setting yourself on fire with a Bic lighter sucks serious rocks. The "flick three times to get a flame" thing gets really old, whether you are trying to light a grill or enflame your subconscious perception into a higher state of being.

And Johnsonville Brats are pretty good if you cook 'em low and slow.

My hope is that you will provide those of us with exigent circumstance some allowance, be it a second look or a whimsical nod of acceptance.

Our writing should be taken as is. We are all fallen unto the same deadline, and that gives us a first-chance filter. Had I not made it, I would have surrendered my apologies and gone on with my dismal life.

This competition brings me an excuse to write again after a year long absence. Personal loss and grief took me away. Your comments and kudos have reminded me that even though I am not stellar, I may be at least entertaining, and it's important that I *do* again.

Regardless of response, I thank those of you who read my words.

For those who don't, I can pretty much cast any punishment I want upon you, can't I? Let's go with undiscovered meat rotting within your walls in a central location that does not lead you to discovery for several months.
