Good morning Idol! (Or at least as long morning may last, and then "good whatever")

First and foremost, there is a poll going on right now - http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/508975.html so I hope you are busy reading, commenting, and voting. Because the fate of many is in your hand. Or at least a few people - and if by "fate" you mean continuing to be active contestants in LJ Idol. Which, of course, as we all know, being eliminated is a fate worse than being pecked to death by cats.

Second, I would be remiss if I didn't post the link that I promised yesterday for the new Idol book http://www.amazon.com/Idol-Meanderings-Sophie-N-Childs/dp/1908599014/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323964152&sr=8-1 - someone else did post it, but since I said I would, I have.
I'm reading it now, and quite enjoying it. Especially the new material, and rediscovering things. Things always "read differently" on the screen than they do in print. At least for me.

Do other people have that as well?

Third - I don't have a third, other than being excited for the finale of Survivor this Sunday. Still not sure where I'm going to watch it! But I'm still excited.
What are your weekend plans?

Holy cow! I appear to actually be first! I guess this is what happens when I take a bye! ;)

Today I am grading my students' final papers. Oh boy!

I'm listening to holiday music in the lobby.
I'm not supposed to have music up here. They can just suck it -- it's the last day of work before Chrismtmas, someone has to amp up the holiday cheer, right? RIGHT.

(Last day for the canned food city. Final picture tomorrow, I promise!)

I love Christmas music! Except I'd like to tell the only local holiday station here that there are Christmas songs not sung by Michael Buble!

My gelato making class was great last night!

We made cookies & cream, Ferrero Rocher, Snickers, and fig & tequila (which I didn't think I'd like but I love it).

However, my fibro and RA have already been mistreating me this week so my plans for today and possibly the weekend include seeing a lot of my bed, the book I'm reading, and my Netflix.

Gelato making class? That sounds awesome! I bet the tequila one was lime flavored? Maybe? Tequila used to be my drink of choice back in the day when I did drink, though I didn't use the lime. I'm curious about tequila gelato now...

Yay idol book! I've heard there is lots to be discovered in the book and I'm excited! I'm also nervous and excited to see my writing in print for the first time. Gary, you and Thea are just awesome beyond words :)

I'm so glad I discovered Idol.

Weekend plans? Packing! And hanging with [livejournal.com profile] java_fiend of course! I'm excited for the Survivor finale too as I'm caught up once again (usually I'm just a day behind), though I may not get to watch it until after my trip to visit my family! Java and I are going to a concert on Sunday. Hopefully no one spoils it for me until I can watch!

I'm wondering how to get my hands on the first book without paying out the ass to the 5 vendors listed on Amazon. I presume Musings didn't start at $45? I understand a high price tag for a small publishing company printing limited runs, and I'm ready and willing to pay for the new one after the holidays, but holy moly at the first book...

Basically what I'm asking is if there was any talk of reprinting the first book?

"Things always "read differently" on the screen than they do in print."

For me, too. I recently got a Kindle and have been reading a few books on it. It just feels different to me. Not good or bad, just . . . different.

I am spending the whole weekend with my husband. On the first, I went back up to Cheyenne to hang out with my best friend and move all of the stuff we had in storage back to Albuquerque. She stayed in Albuquerque for a week, and just flew back to Cheyenne on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to the first full day of alone time with the hubby tomorrow. I think we're gonna snuggle up in bed and play WoW. Or Skyrim. Can't wait! ^_^

I agree that the kindle is different from paper books, but damn if it isn't easier to just pick up and take with me and read during short breaks in whatever else I'm doing... Since I recieved mine on November 25th, I've completed at least 2 novels, which I likely wouldn't have even picked up otherwise. When I read for a long time, the kindle "disappears", and it doesn't cause me eye strain like other types of screens do...

I know kindles arent for everyone, and I do plan on keeping some, if not many, books in print, but I love mine!

Ever since last night, LJ just does not want to load pages for me. (With luck, this comment will post on the first try.)

I actually do not have to work this weekend! I requested Sunday off for another choir concert, and they just happened to schedule me off on Saturday, which is a rare treat for me.

Today, however, I have a four hour shift right smack in the middle of the day. I will have time to crank out some pizzelles before work, but really, my day is useless for getting anything done.

Tomorrow will be a cookie baking bonanza (and hopefully, between what mom gets done today and what I get done tomorrow, we will be pretty close to done).

I am so much more a book person than a screen person. I have to admit that when I received my copy of the book, I read my own stories first... and it was just so damn exciting to be reading them IN A BOOK! And despite the fact that I'd read them all before countless times, when writing and editing and polishing... I just found myself thoroughly enjoying them so much more this time around :)

Yay, Survivor finale! I'm probably going to have to wait until Tuesday to watch it, since Sunday and Monday are dedicated football nights around here, and Kent will flip back and forth between the two, which drives. Me. Bonkers.

I'm looking forward to having the spousebeast home all weekend. The only real plan is stock-making and making sure Kent is at least in the room when I return his mom's phone call. She's called every day this week, and I'm setting boundaries. I feel mean, but I can't take it any more. Yeah, you're going to be alone (except for your husband) on Christmas. Get the &^%$ over it. I might be more sympathetic if she hadn't started this s&^t in October.

Yeah, I'm grumpy today. :(

I am, also, looking forward to the Survivor finale this weekend. I have completed my Christmas shopping and have nothing to do but plan and prepare the dinner on the day in question.

Well, nothing to do but read and vote on Idol entries, and, perhaps, , write a few more before the Holiday. God willing and the votes for me do rise. HEE!

Puppies are a handful. I keep wanting one, but then I remember the challenges that come with them. My mom could get me a free Great Dane puppy right now, but luckily my apartment is already at capacity or I'd be so tempted. I love Great Danes and want a house full.

When people who have byes have more votes for you, you know your doomed. *sigh* I don't like my entry this week so I won't be shocked but still, it's sad.

Weekend plans? Tonight, 2 presentations. Tomorrow, 1 final, watching the second half of my classmates present and then to write a final paper (or two). And a few online classes. Sunday, ice skating for both mine & my hubby's birthday.

From: [identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com
Don't tell us you don't like it! Then you're telling others it's not worth reading and we may like it! It could be that people haven't voted in your tribe, byes tend to get votes so people can easily see the poll results and then they edit it later to include their actual votes upon reading. Don't give up yet, it's still early and I'm betting people haven't read through your entire tribe yet.

I know that voting technique because that's what I used to do too. So it happens!

Cloworora is seen in the corner in a rainbow poncho, holding a sign that reads "But if you want money for people with minds that hate, all I can tell you is, brother, you have to wait. Don't you know it's gonna be all right? - The Beatles"

If everyone had a poem instead of a gun, there would be a lot of confused cops. There would be no caps to bust, only couplets to sing and we'd quickly run out of things to write about without violence. Bummer.

Today I paid fair price in two taxis and a rickshaw, rode in the ladies' car in the local train, and walked through the locksmith, fabric, fruit, stationery and hardware neighborhoods. Mumbai is totally growing on me, and it's the best kind of crazy. At one point, I took a deep breath, and just walked right across a seven lane intersection, and sure enough, the cars came close but missed me :)

Good afternoon. I've been fighting off some sickness for 12 days now. (Or rather I succumbed to illness 12 days ago and though I am not as sick as before, I can't shake this cough and congestion). I am also suffering from motherhood, which the largest symptom is sleep deprivation. However, I did manage to not bye out this week. I also have started reading some entries, miraculously enough.

Tomorrow Henrietta will be 6 weeks old. A year ago today, M and I had our epic 72 hour date which started it all. Yesterday I ate an entire chocolate bar.

Whoo. Good afternoon Green Room!

Now that my semester is over, I've set a goal for myself to read and comment on every single LJI entry. I've got lots of time to spare now that I don't have to crank out 15 page papers every week!

I just watched a video of a singing flash mob at my local shopping complex and am utterly bummed that I wasn't there on the day! :(

My weekend plans: 1. Watch Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol; 2. Buy X-Box 360; and 3. Finally get around to leaving feedback for people in the WR. I'm annoyed that I haven't been able to do it yet, but this week was busier than I thought it was going to be.

Oh, and of course, read and vote :D

Gary, I've got to tell you the truth:

I got my copy of IDOL MEANDERINGS in the mail today... and while it is a shining jewel in most respects, I have found a couple of glaring flaws. I know this is going to sound mean-spirited, but here it is:

I don't understand why the two pieces by this co-called "Paul Riter" guy are in the book. I can honestly say that I've written stuff JUST AS GOOD as the two pieces in question, so I don't see what all the fuss is about.

On top of that, I think this guy has the all-time worst pseudonym I've ever seen. Everybody is going to read his name as "Paul the Writer" anyway, so WHY DIDN'T HE USE THAT NAME *INSTEAD*?

Still, it is often claimed that flaws in a jewel make the rest of the stone seem to sparkle all the more... and I guess that's true in this case. All the other pieces in the book were a delight for me to read... and I'd like to make a "shout-out" to my dear friend Norda Maranda Coy, who has three rather fine selections in the book.

Bottom line: The book is well worth the price, and I encourage everyone to purchase copies for family, friends and neighbors.

A busy weekend here. I've been sick with one thing after another for seven weeks--very unusual for me--so it will be lovely to get out and do things for a change. Tonight, Peter volunteered to work the overnight shift at the hospital. (Y'all have read enough about him to know he'd do that.) He'll get home tomorrow in time for the religious school synagogue service--a requirement for our third-grader's class--and then we have two Hanukkah parties. Sunday, a family learning session at religious school. (Are you noticing a theme here?) We will finally have time all together, just the four of us, in the afternoon. The kids will need to do homework and will want to play, being high as kites about Hanukkah. Peter and I will want to sleep!

1 paper, 2 presentations done!

Left: 1 final (tomorrow @ 9), put together 2 papers (already written just have to be put together) and a few IS classes. Then I can say good bye to my first semester as a grad student!
