The final poll is up and the last few finishing touches are being completed over in the Banquet Hall. It's not long that we will vacate the Green Room and move over to celebrate the crowning of a new LJ Idol!!

What was your favorite piece of the season? Not only something you personally wrote, but also something you read from another writer?

I know we started this journey together in late October, but am I the only one looking around and wondering where that time went? I've had seasons last half as long and feel (to me) like twice that!

I'll take the plunge:

My favorite entry of the year was way back in Week 16, team_jessie's Open Topic (http://team-jessie.livejournal.com/735775.html). The subject matter is heavy and complex, but she doesn't duck it or obfuscate rather she states everything that needs to be known up front, with frank, simple, and (for reasons I can't put a finger on) exhausted language. There's a lot to be appalled by here, but she refuses to judge. It's somehow both objective and mournful, and it has haunted me since I read it in March.

And since nobody asked, the thing I wrote I liked best was my Week 23 Threesome. It enabled a trio of wildly divergent writers to attend an arms expo with eyes that are so very clearly their own. You had the almost nihilistic passion (http://superhappytime.livejournal.com/421053.html) of superhappytime, the exotic yet still somehow mundane (and therefore hilarious) travelogue (http://tamaraland.livejournal.com/849546.html) of tamaraland, and then you had me, whose manic, cranky banter (http://i-17bingo.livejournal.com/114726.html) totally didn't belong, but still fit in.

And don't get me started on every. Single. Entry I've read this season.

The best thing that's happened to me in LJ Idol in general is about a eleventy-billion über-talented, supportive, and just plain fun new friends I've picked up.

Hello GR! Work is extra brutal these days, so I doubt I'll have much time to play. But considering we are running out of them, I did want to say something! Time sure did fly!

I won't be able to pick out entries and post them because of that thing called work...but that's probably a good thing since I know some people feel like they never get attention...if you're reading this, just know that I morre than likely could pick a favorite entry by every single person who played. This has been a fascinating season for me, enjoying my own writing but moreso reading all the wonderful entries from so many talented and interesting people. There is no way I could pick one favorite entry, just too many good ones.

Also, I can't believe idol is nearly over. I signed up the same month I started my Masters and now I'm writing the final draft of my thesis. Time sure does fly, and what a brilliant time it's been!

I have so many favorites that I can't narrow them down and it would take too long for me to list them here. I'd love to come back and make a long list for everyone, but afraid I won't have the time to do so.

Sufficed to say, I thought we had excellent quality this season and I really enjoyed reading my old favorites as well as some of the standout newbies.

I AM wondering where the time went. When we started this season I was still pregnant, and now I have a lovely seven month old who is scooting himself across the floor.

One of the best things about LJI, in addition to prodding me into writing like no other prompt has, is the wealth of good people who show up and become instant friends. I'm so glad to have met a new batch of friends this season and been able to share my stories with them as well as read theirs.

I don't remember who wrote it, but there was a piece from waaaaaaay back in week 1 for "Winding Up". At the end, there was a notation that it was inspired by the Peter, Paul and Mary song "The Marvelous Toy". Anyone got the link?

It was the entry that made me realize what I was REALLY up against this season. I credit it with making me try harder.

There were so many great entries that it's hard to list favorites, and there are ones I can't recall right now that if you mentioned them, I'd say "OH! That one was awesome, too."

So I'll just mention a couple that left such an impact that they bubbled up to the top of my memory just now:
this tragic dragon story (http://the-vernacular.livejournal.com/12277.html) by the_vernacular and this twisted story of sex and time travel (http://joeymichaels.livejournal.com/600316.html) by joeymichaels. I also became a big fan of alephz this season, just take a stroll through the entries in his LJ tagged "lj idol" and "season 7" and see the genius unfold.

As for what I wrote, I'll admit there were some good ones, and I know several struck a chord with y'all. The one that was the most fun for me to write was this home-game entry (http://beldar.livejournal.com/696593.html) featuring my own alternate take on Neverland.
