The only "good" thing about making this announcement is that I do so with the knowledge that it won't be the most upsetting news of the day in most circles.

It still really sucks though.

I think "really sucks" is putting it mildly. But, regardless of how that poll came out, it was going to really suck.

The remaining 6 were just so damn good that it was an impossible decision.

amenquohi had immunity, which meant there were 5 people going for 3 spots. It was bound to be heartbreaking.

But you know what? We are talking about people who made the TOP 6 out of 261 contestants this season! It's kind of difficult to see that as anything other than a victory.

These are people who produced astonishing work and who have kept us entertained for months!
They are going out because only one person to win. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think the work speaks for itself, and I urge everyone to go back and check out their entire body of work. If you came in late, you will see what you missed! Heck, if you were here the entire time you may have missed it! 261 is a lot of people, and a ton of entries!!

In 6th place for Season 7 - yachiru

The second person leaving is complicated by joeymichaels using his final immunity token to save himself. That means the contestant with the next fewest votes will be leaving us.
Which means that a single vote will decide who will end up leaving us this week.

In 5th place - java_fiend

An amazing newbie and an old favorite, both who continued to get stronger the deeper they went into the competition. It was a privilege to read both of you this season.

You know I'm a fiction curmudgeon a lot of the time. What can I say? I've got tendencies toward being a big-L Literary snob. And, I am usually on LJ because I want to get to know people and hear interesting perspectives on world events and such. However, I am so sad to see yachiru leaving this week. Her pieces just blew me away. I plowed through all of them shortly after the poll opened and kept hoping more would magically appear. I've been a lot out of it this season, but I am so glad to have discovered her writing. And since I don't know her and I haven't left comments before, I'm doing it here, now, so I don't forget to do so.

This is heartbreaking to me. As most of you know, java_fiend and I are kinda close and all (to say the least). I love that boy to bits and to see him go is more painful than my own elimination. I hope he knows that I think he's a totally kick ass writer by now. It's what attracted me to him in the first place after all, so no, I am not biased. Seeing him go just breaks my heart <3

Don't worry, I will try to cheer him up and stuff this weekend. And make sure he knows how PROUD I am to see him make 5th freaking place!!! That is so awesome and I hope he sees that for how awesome it really is. I am so very proud of him!

And I give big props to yachiru. She's so unique and awesome. Her WoW story still incites fits of laughter every time I think of it. I absolutely loved it. She had her unique style, and it was a style I could certainly appreciate. VERY well done. I do need to go back and read her earlier stuff now, as I know I am sure to love it.

You know, given that 4 of the final 6 were people on my flist without guaranteed immunity, I was guaranteed to lose at least one person on my friends list. That doesn't mean I don't like the other two, because I do :P

yachiru first came onto my radar during the first contestant only voting round. I'm not sure whether I read any of her entries before that because entries kind of blur together at the beginning but I specifically recall that moment because her entry made me think about it for so long afterwards that I knew I couldn't not vote for it. Do you know how difficult it is to write something that people keep thinking about and remember long after the fact? Since that moment, I've been reading her ever since, and I am not at all surprised she made it this far.

java_fiend, on the other hand, has been a friend of mine since last season, though I think we've become a lot closer this season, and I now count him amongst my closest friends. It's especially sad to see him gone this week when he wrote so much non-fiction... because I am a sucker for his non-fiction, much as I do like his creepy fiction, too. But I am glad to see he made it further this season than he did last season!

I really hope people do go back and read entries by both of these people, as well as the remaining four, because there is so much quality stuff written by all of them.
