Results - Week 20
Apr. 10th, 2011 07:35 pmLivejournal is a harsh mistress, and not in the way that people are willing to pay a little extra to receive.
In a series of ups and downs through the last week, it is has been rough going just to keep our heads above water and keep track of what is going on.
It's one of the problems with a site like this, sometimes it doesn't work as well as we would like. Sometimes we spend more time hammering our heads against wall than we can spend actually reading and enjoying ourselves.
Which is a shame.
Sometimes you play the course and sometimes you get played by it.
Thank you to everyone who braved the waters and kept trying until they got their votes in, and let their voice be heard over the chaos.
The second tribe was created to try to avoid automatically eliminating anyone caught in LJ's trap. It made things a lot more difficult, but hopefully it helped a little.
However, LJ did seem to aim at one particular household.
Both
diagenou
and
walkertxkitty
were eliminated from the Late Tribe.
In the first tribe, we are losing
soprano1790.
At this point any elimination is going to be brutal. Seeing those names just reminds us of that.
There is a tie-breaker among the other folks currently tied for that second spot.
The contestants who will be battling it out?

You have until tomorrow, Monday April 11th at 9pm EDT to link your new entry to the topic thread below.
The topic? Another Runner in the Night.
Have fun!
We also say goodbye to the Topsy Turvy that has been in play, and Hello to the Top 50 that we have officially passed. Congratulations!
Goodbye TT. For now. ;)

Date: 2011-04-10 11:41 pm (UTC)And good luck to the four in the tie-breaker! Edit: Also, I just realised that this is the first tie-breaker topic that I've seen this season that doesn't have something to do with gambling (e.g. "Calling Your Bluff", "50/50", "Call", "Spin the Wheel", "Full House", etc. etc.). Unless it does and I just don't know the connection... /random observation

Date: 2011-04-11 12:10 am (UTC)Because then come the poles, or occasionally, the dreaded contestant only votes. In the poles, your entry is only one of many on a long list of great pieces--your writing reduced down to a number of votes. Now, it's time to agonize over the numbers, comparing, analyzing, and, if you're me, calculating. It seems almost random the way the numbers change and jump from hour to hour, but it's not.
At the end, you refresh the poles over and over again, squeeeeeing every time there is a change. You know, that surely, your number will increase. It must. At this point, it doesn't matter anymore, what you have written for the week. The only thing that matters is that fateful number, hoping it will rise, so you can continue on to next week and keep writing.
But sometimes it doesn't...
Thank you guys for all the support. I did this thing on a whim and made it further than I even imagined I could. Just one vote... Good luck tie breaker people! Hard topic. It's been fun! I'll really miss idol.

Date: 2011-04-11 12:47 am (UTC)That small tribe was brutal. I'm not sure things would have worked out the same way if it wasn't set up that way, but it's certainly better than losing all 8 of us for being late I suppose. It's still harsh on all those that are going I bet :(

Date: 2011-04-11 01:17 am (UTC)I'm pretty sure this one was largely political in the manner it ended and that the above played a factor in it. I'm a bit bitter it ended up that way, for my own sake if not for Dee's (he only did this for me in the first place, because I like to see him write).
Neither he nor I, because of our various health issues, have much time to chat in the Green Room or to comment on entries (although they get faithfully read, every one of them, each week). I'm pretty sure that was a factor as well. In this competition, you HAVE to be able to pull in not only the community but your friends as well.
Reality check: I don't exactly HAVE friends any more. The longer I've been ill, the further they pull away. All of my local friends checked out some time last year and very few of my long distance friends have bothered with the connection.
You need friends and connections to play. That's why I'm frankly surprised that either he or I got as far as we did. I don't know that Dee will comment individually, though I'll encourage him to do so. I'm the 'voice' of this family. Those of you who do read our entries will have noticed that. I'm generally the one who puts our decisions, trials, and troubles out after a common consensus has been made.
In this case, it frees him up to concentrate on healing. I know the deadlines were beginning to trouble him; several times in order to get him to meet them, I had to threaten permanent withholding of ice cream and brownies (that's a major offense in this household!) I can't promise I'll keep posting, but I may write the home game if a topic appeals to me.
I also don't know if I'll do this again. You really can't just play the game with your writing and...I simply don't have the friends, influence, or the community connections to compete.
Most of you know where to find me if you choose to do so. I'll be around. To those that do choose --- and there are some that have --- you'll find a good friend here. Ask some of them.
If, however, you are hoping for entertainment, I'm fresh out.
Adding friends?
Date: 2011-04-11 02:02 am (UTC)I wonder if it would be ok to add you both?
Hugs to you both.
