More a change of pace than a twist. It'll be the first open topic, we have the weekend to work on it but have to have it in two days earlier, and we're losing an extra person this week.
Just to let you know...I will be on vacation from 4/13-4/22. I will not have internet access...I don't have a laptop. ;P I'll get my entry in before 4/13, but I'll miss the next week.
email me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com to discuss the details. You will probably just be given an extra open topic week that you will make up when everyone else has their next open topic.
I got what you were saying, totally. And you aren't alone in the way you feel.
Strategy is fine in a game that is about strategy, but I came into this under the impression that it wasn't about the strategy, but about the quality of your writing in the eyes of the voters.
Really, that's what I think it should be, but there's no way to really make people read every entry and vote solely on that, at least not without some major restructuring. Plenty of people only read, and vote for, their friends.
And, of course, good writing is in the eye of the reader. I've seen plenty of comments on entries that say things like, "Wow! That was excellent! You're so good!" while I'm thinking to myself, "Well, they stayed on topic, at least."
clauderainsrm's main reason to start this was to have fun and foster interaction between his friends. It's grown from the little group we had the first "season," but that's still the main idea behind it.
Yeah, I admittedly vote for friends, but I also read other entries as well and if they stand out from the crowd, I vote for them. It's definitely a subjective matter and fairly biased as well. It's just human nature in action.
yeah, it really is. If I could force people to read every entry, I would. But there's no way to do that. Instead I would point out that tru2myart got to the finals because she took the time to get to know everyone. She had a very small friends list coming in, but her personality and being open to meeting new people helped her meet a LOT of people during her season, and ultimately helped her win. As someone pointed out earlier though there is more than one way to "win", and there is a chance to have a lot more winners than just the people in the finals.
Very very true. And I feel that way. I did this to meet new people as well as a nudge to write more/better posts, so I do consider myself a winner in that respect even if I don't get any further than I am right now.
Semi-official (clauderainsrm would have final say, of course), I don't think there's anything wrong with that, as far as the rules go.
Personally, I don't think you should vote for someone unless you think their entry deserves it, but that's me. If someone's spending time trying to skew the results, they need a new hobby.
Official answer - I pretty much agree with that, to a point. Voting for someone just for the sake of voting for them . . . that's iffy. But taking the time to get to know people who might not have big friends lists, and those people getting together to show each other support - that's the point of the game to me: people taking the time to interact, make friends, and get to know each other - and show support to the people who's entries *spoke to them* each week. If more people did that, I think you would see a huge shift in the game.

I had a nice quiet weekend of sewing and gardening planned, with perhaps a bit of cleaning on the side.
Thanks.

I'm just here to get nudged to write.
