Surprise!

I did promise shake ups throughout the season, and this is one of those shake ups!

~looks confused~

There's a twist this week?

More a change of pace than a twist. It'll be the first open topic, we have the weekend to work on it but have to have it in two days earlier, and we're losing an extra person this week.

Just to let you know...I will be on vacation from 4/13-4/22. I will not have internet access...I don't have a laptop. ;P I'll get my entry in before 4/13, but I'll miss the next week.

How does that work?

Thanks!!
Dawn

I have a HORRIBLE weekend planned! I'll be out of town and I have exams next week! Ugh. LJ Idol is conspiring against me.

My brain has already decided it is a hamster on speed, wearing out its little wheel as it considers the possibilities of an open topic.

*deep breath*

I had a nice quiet weekend of sewing and gardening planned, with perhaps a bit of cleaning on the side.

Thanks.

I liked a lot of this week's Can't Believe I Did That entries.

Good hustle, guys!

My body may have until Wednesday.

My brain doesn't care. It is rather cyclic that way.

Liked the way [livejournal.com profile] deyaniera hit both topics this week without even being sneaky about it. Interesting entry too.

Question

What is the official stance on someone who is going around suggesting voting for certain people, regardless of their posts, skewing the votes?

And to clarify I am not speaking of saying "vote for my friend" type of suggestions.

Sorry - I hated the way I turned that phrase...

I think it's a valid strategy. I'm just not sure I want to play the game that way...

I'm just here to get nudged to write.

I got what you were saying, totally. And you aren't alone in the way you feel.

Strategy is fine in a game that is about strategy, but I came into this under the impression that it wasn't about the strategy, but about the quality of your writing in the eyes of the voters.

Semi-official ([livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm would have final say, of course), I don't think there's anything wrong with that, as far as the rules go.

Personally, I don't think you should vote for someone unless you think their entry deserves it, but that's me. If someone's spending time trying to skew the results, they need a new hobby.

Really, that's what I think it should be, but there's no way to really make people read every entry and vote solely on that, at least not without some major restructuring. Plenty of people only read, and vote for, their friends.

And, of course, good writing is in the eye of the reader. I've seen plenty of comments on entries that say things like, "Wow! That was excellent! You're so good!" while I'm thinking to myself, "Well, they stayed on topic, at least."

[livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm's main reason to start this was to have fun and foster interaction between his friends. It's grown from the little group we had the first "season," but that's still the main idea behind it.

Yeah, I admittedly vote for friends, but I also read other entries as well and if they stand out from the crowd, I vote for them. It's definitely a subjective matter and fairly biased as well. It's just human nature in action.

Very very true. And I feel that way. I did this to meet new people as well as a nudge to write more/better posts, so I do consider myself a winner in that respect even if I don't get any further than I am right now.
