Also...been helping out a close friend whose house burned down last Friday...she's been couch hopping until she finds a permanent place to live - will probably see her multiple times this weekend now she's staying with a friend that lives close to us...

I don't know what my fun plans are. I kind of wish I was going to NH... that's what I've done the past few years. I'll be in Maine for the weekend, though. Most of my friends, I think, are going to be out of town. But I did get invited to a party, so maybe I'll do that. It's nice to be invited to stuff and know that people want to include you, right?

I should read some entries! I am drinking coffee.

Hmmm.... time for a meta of the day, I guess.
How about commenting practices? Do you leave comments to everyone? No one? Some people? Is there any strategy to leaving comments?

Oh. And how's it going... It's going... Been a long couple of days and I didn't get as much done in NYC as I was supposed to. Curses.

I used to have a strategy for leaving comments! Back when we still were hundreds of us in the competition, I used to keep track so that I had commented to everyone at least now and then. That was in addition to the posts that generally were so awesome I couldn't help myself. It was so fun getting comments that I wanted to share.

These days, when we are a lot fewer, I try to comment to everyone, even though I know I sometimes forget and fail to do so.

Surgery went well. In moderate pain and hard to type with a pulse oximeter on. Have multiple contraptions on - nasal cannula, things that squeeze me legs periodically to prevent blood clots, EKG leads, a foley catheter, a drain from one of the incisions, an IV (currently has saline, an antibiotic and of course my patient-administered-analgesia, the pulse oximeter, a blood pressure cuff, and an extra saline lock that is tied off. I think that's it.

Pain is mostly staying around a 5.

Surgery started at 8:30 yesterday and finished up at about 2:30. I don't get to drink anything until I fart so they can make sure my bowels work and such (because I'm sure you wanted to know that. Hah!). So I am very thirsty. Have these sponge swabs I can use to wet my mouth though.

In sadder news, I got a call from my father this morning. My grandfather died yesterday. He was 85. My step-grandmother Margit went to run some errands and came home and found him. Presumably he had a heart attack or stroke.

He was my last living grandparent.

I have a good weekend ahead. My old boss gave me comp tickets to the huge Fourth of July barbecue and fireworks show at one of our wineries. Most of my good friends from my old department will be working, so I get to see everybody, as well as hang out with my old roomie for the weekend. On Monday, we're heading over wookiewife's for a kebabaque with michikatinski and mikeeeee. I am a happy girl.

Oh, and it's half day Friday. :D

I bought birthday presents! I made a game of it -- three kids, $12 maximum apiece excluding gift bags/ribbon/cards.

The oldest niece in this bunch (age 8) came in at just under $16. Over the mark, but she's older and hence her interests tend to be a tad more expensive. That's OK because...

Nephew (age 5) -- his toys came out to be $8. One of them is a Transformer. He LOVES Transformers.

Niece (age 3) -- baby doll, $5. Fuzzy stuffed pony, $5.

I nearly did a cartwheel in the parking lot!

It's going good I suppose. I am suddenly swamped in potential jobs within the last few days. I won't complain one little bit! That's a good sign!

I a moving forward to be in management at a local retail store if all else fails...

BUT I am also moving onto my 4th (and hopefully final) step for the real estate development position in Newport Beach, CA! That is MUCH more exciting! If I get it, they want me out there in a matter of weeks. Yikes!

And just in case, I will have a phone interview for another position in Richmond, VA. That position would be really cool, as it is a non-profit affordable housing developer like I am used to working for.

But really, I want the Cali job WAY more! It's a very exciting company to work for and I love the area!

If it's the company I'm thinking of (cause they own most of the office buildings in Irvine) it's a huge ass company...I suspect their offices are near the airport - on Newport Beach & Irvine border...

But if you're offered that position - I'd go for it..or the one in VA..

Carrie used to be in retail...it's really easy to get stuck there - be great if you don't become that statistic...

I'm so happy it's Friday! I worked two hours of OT last night, which isn't a whole lot (at least for some people) but it means I didn't leave work until 7:30 pm, as I normally leave work at 5:30. That's kinda late!

Normally, the hubby and I go out of town for the 4th of July (we've gone to Gatlinburg the past several years) but unfortunately he has to work this weekend as one of his co-workers is out sick. Phoo. And no bowling this Monday because of the holiday weekend. Double Phoo.

Since I didn't eat breakfast until after I got to the office (around 9:30) I'm only just now eating lunch (Manwich, yum). But that's ok since I have to stop by the grocery store on my way home for meatloaf fixings, which means I won't be eating supper until at least 7:30 or maybe 8:00, as it takes at least an hour to bake a meatloaf!

How'm I doing?

Not much to complain about, honestly, other than I hate my meds; they make me ill every morning, but once I get going I seem to be ok.

It has been an incredibly productive day for everything but writing. That would be great except Friday is supposed to be a writing day, so I am going to be behind in my WC for a while.

I made Eggplant Parmesan for dinner tonight using eggplants I grew in my front garden. This weekend we are having a BBQ (in NoVa and want to see a fantastic fireworks show? Come on over!) and between my farm share and my garden, there's no need to buy a veggie tray this year.

The Mothership's moving van is delayed till July 12! Her furniture is stuck in a warehouse in Nokomis, FL still....Since June 25th! WTF?! She is being compensated by American Red Ball for some expenses. She can stay here, but needs more clothes and a few other packed on the truck items. On principal, it isn't right. They are out of contract.
It's a lot of work getting her moved. Glad I have time off in summer to deal with all this.

I turned 26 today. I worked 10 hours, ate cupcakes and seafood (and bacon, naturally!), and am packing for tomorrow's trip to Baltimore Harbor.
