Green Room - Week 32 - 2
Jul. 1st, 2010 10:06 am*yawn*
So, how was YOUR night? Anything interesting going on? :P
I have some general commentary for later, got a meeting with a guy about a thing, if people have more questions for me. I'm still waiting for one of the people involved though. Thus far I haven't seen anything impacts the game itself, and after a night of pouring through votes, um that's "fun" btw - although obviously some personal relationships are going to require some conversations.
If you don't know what I'm talking about - hey, look! Free kittens!!!!
If you have a couple spare good thoughts - send them over
supremegoddess1 today. She'll either appreciate them, or bite the heads off them like bat!!! Either way it will be a nice thing to do! :p

Date: 2010-07-01 02:16 pm (UTC)In regards to the drama, I just have to say - why'd it have to come out on a two-entry week? I can't eat popcorn and write two entries and get a decent amount of sleep (especially since I'm going out of town Friday night, crap!)
Clearly it is a huge conspiracy designed to bring me down.

Date: 2010-07-01 06:16 pm (UTC)(Is it sad that I really do wish there was popcorn involved here so I could eat some... time to check the cupboard. Curses, internet! Curses!)

Date: 2010-07-01 02:16 pm (UTC)I have no idea what you're on about in the squishy middle there.I know and don't really want to know about the squishy middle, so I'll just head back to my bunker and work on my entries. I'm allergic to kittens (and cats, for that matter, which is why our guys now have their own porch), so I'll have to pass on those.no subject

Beaming good vibes towards supremegoddess1 :)

Date: 2010-07-01 04:16 pm (UTC)I'm a huge fan of the Mayfair Games Empire Builder series. At Origins Game Faire last weekend, I found a flier advertizing a computer version of the board game.
I tried to take the flier, but there was only one and it was in somebody's hand. He let me jot down the website, though.
I downloaded the free trial and so far I love it.

Date: 2010-07-01 04:37 pm (UTC)I have two interviews today. One isn't very exciting, just a part-time position that could hep me pay the bills in the meantime if the "real" job doesn't pan out.
The second is very exciting though and could land me an awesome job in my field. It's the third interview in the process,so a good sign, right? So keep your fingers crossed for me. I could be moving to Newport Beach within weeks if it works out!
I am curious about this personal relationship that requires conversations....eeep. It makes me wonder if it somehow involves me (yes, I am paranoid).

Date: 2010-07-01 05:23 pm (UTC)I threw out an old banana earlier, and by now they have finished eating half of it. Most of the flock are hatchings just out of their downy baby coats. They don't have their proper colors yet, and seems to want to be back in their nest. I watched their father eat the banana, two hatchings sitting next to him eating as well. Now and then they would abandon the tough part of eating on their own, and would chirp and beg until their dad started feeding them like in the old days. They would eat, beg, and then eat some more.
The scene was totally adorable, and I thought I would share it while I was putting off writing my entry.
Sometimes life is good.

Date: 2010-07-01 05:39 pm (UTC)The only drama in my life is figuring out how I feel about 'The Last Airbender' movie. Went to to the midnight premier cause I love the show so much. My only advice is if you haven't seen the show before, don't before going to see the movie. and if you are a fan of the show, watch the nicktoon special, the making of The Last Airbender.

Date: 2010-07-01 06:46 pm (UTC)As for drama - I've been out of the loop about things for a while now.
A good friend of ours - her place burned down and is currently couch hopping. It really put things into perspective doesn't it?
no subject
Date: 2010-07-01 11:39 pm (UTC)That's what I tried to say before. All this drama isn't the worst thing going on in the world. It's not the end of the world after all.

Date: 2010-07-01 08:48 pm (UTC)Reading this sort of stuff is a lot easier whilst holding a 3-week-old baby who makes little baby panda noises. (Kung Fu Panda is aptly nicknamed.)
Addressing two very different sets of people
Date: 2010-07-01 08:59 pm (UTC)- People don't always like their competition and if someone gets further ahead than they do, they don't like it. Who wants to think that other people *actually* like someone's work, when they (clearly more qualified and refined of readers) don't see anything in it?
What might not get processed though, is that there are people sitting around, saying the same exact thing about them!!
Every time there is someone who gets something - there is someone sitting, thinking "I deserved that a lot more".
Ultimately though, it's going to come down to taste. Because the people voting for the people you don't like - are just like the people who are voting for the one's that you do.
They are just as qualified with just as such knowledge about *what they like* as people who support folks you do like have.
Quality
I've said it before - anyone who thinks that any one of these Top 11 *shouldn't* have an equal chance to win, based on the quality of their entries - I think you are sniffing something.
A friend of mine was rereading some stuff from previous seasons last summer and realized that things she might not have liked when she read them in the competition - she found herself enjoying them, and seeing what other people liked, when there wasn't a vote involved.
Both of those above come with the subtitle "Subjectivity is Your Friend. Everyone Else Hates You"
There is Another Person on the Other End of the Internet
This is one that often gets ignored. Because no one is right in front of you. They might as well be not there.
But they are. Especially when you reach out to, and get to know, people - that comes with an obligation.
What is that obligation? It varies from person to person and relationship to relationship.
But it's not something that can be rationalized away - and once broken, it's not always easy - or possible - to fix.
Of course there's a difference between broken and "mostly broken" that might not always be apparent in the heat of the moment. Saying, or doing, things that will make it worse - well, um, that will just make it worse.
In those cases, maybe just stepping away from each other for a bit and approaching it later, with an apology and a cookie. (Even if you didn't "do anything wrong" in actions, if it hurt someone, then acknowledge that, it's what friends do - the cookie btw is for me!!!)
Remembering that there is another person on the other side of these twisted tubes filled with magic will probably go a long way toward not having to do any of the other stuff.
This isn't just as a "taking actions", this is also "reaction".
Nothing has been ruined, nothing is a lie. Except the cake
Taking the breath, and being able to access a situation before "OMGZ DRAMA!!!! Now everything that ever has been is ruined" - it's a good thing. More people need to practice it.
"Someone did something that I did not like" does not mean that "Grandma's birthday is a disaster!!!!" if you had a really good time up until then, and have a really good time after that.
